I have always wondered why these guys don’t finish until they are checkmated , I mean I know they can see the outcome but push till the end!!!

The possible reasons behind that could be:- 1. They already know that they completely lost and there is no point in trying against strong opponents such as Magnus. 2. Their ego issues are probably the main reason, as they know that a number of people are watching their games they don't wish to be humiliated. 3. Lastly they might not want to exhaust their energy in positions they know are ultimately going to be lost for them as tournaments such as world blitz are really tiring I do agree with your suggestion! But for your question these might be the possible reasons.

In many instances it is regarded as bad manners to keep playing when you've clearly lost. The main issue is: are you clueless or too spineless to resign? So that is a big reason. I do see sometimes players resigning prematurely when they could keep fighting. It is better at club level to keep fighting for longer to see if your opponent can be fooled into a trap. But at Super GM level if you lose a minor piece you're done. Basically against Magnus after 1. e4 you should probably resign. 🙂
