I don't understand the motive of using an engine against a world champion. Against anyone really, but especially against the World Champion. If you win, you get no satisfaction. You didn't beat him. An engine did. You don't win money or a trophy. Meanwhile, you are missing out on the rare opportunity and privilege of playing the best player in the world, playing honestly. Even if you lose badly. It was suspicious. There's something in the way the best moves were all made at specific intervals while time was clearly moving against the opponent. @@nihlify Not rushing is one thing, but that isn't what manbearpig was doing. He was using basically the exact same time for each move, his pauses make no sense, including a few very obvious moves like Bxc5 at 7:07. He thinks the exact same time for every move, whether it's an obvious choice or a move that requires real thought. An actual player on that level would be playing moves like Bxc5 almost instantaneously, whilst taking a much longer time to find non obvious moves like Qh8+ then moving back to the exact same square. Then, the moment he got under 20 seconds and playing fast, his moves stopped making sense and Magnus quickly turned a lost position into a winning position a pawn up - because the player had no understanding of the strategical nuances and was just playing engine moves.

Chess beginner here: How do you guys figure out that the guy in the video is using an engine against Magnus?
@Daniel-tl6hx4 жыл бұрын
because he is rank 1900 but still challenged magus quite a bit also the time intervals between each move is juuuust enough time to check stockfish before moving

Basically, you see he made his first few moves very quickly then instantly his moves started taking almost the same amount of time throughout the midgame, even though some moves were extremely obvious, and they were all almost perfect moves. For his 1800 rating, this doesn't really make sense and you see even when he only has 30ish seconds left he's still spending way too long making a move, and then he just makes random moves when he's just run out of time and cant use the engine anymore.

Magz: okay manbearpig you must out.. Manbearpig: e4. Magz: lolz You know, whoever this manbearpig, It reminds me of classic Japanese literature showdown between Musashi Miyamoto vs Kojiro Sasaki. Musashi came very late at their appointed duel. The annoyed Kojiro start impatient, furious, angry that his foe don't came. Exactly when Kojiro thought it's time leave out. Musashi came... Well except this manbearpig clearly not giving Magz psychological blow but amusement for us lol

its what would happen if someone tried musashi's technique of showing up late on him. he would be completely unmoved and void cut his opponent(s)

What's Magnus's opening called? Is that a dragon?
@stephengriffeth51163 жыл бұрын
Obviously none of the people claiming Magnus' opponent here was using an engine bothered to analyze the game with a computer (in one example of many, lichess claims he blundered already on move 9). There is no reason at all to think this guy was cheating. An engine would have crushed Magnus' rat. Magnus played a terrible opening, and it's completely plausible that an 1800ish player would play this well against it.
