Newbie question. Why did one player start with so much more time. Does it have to do with their chess ratings?
@mamoufalke33393 ай бұрын
There is a rule that calls for players to choose a time, for example Magnus chooses 8 minutes and Hikaru chooses 10 minutes. Whoever chooses a shorter time plays with black and a draw is enough for him to win. As for whoever has more time and plays with white pieces, he has no choice but to win.

I wish Magnus the best. However, for the chess community as a whole, he could sometimes sacrifice a little and pretend that he made a minor mistake. From what I've noticed, some of his opponents are a bit “blocked” emotionally, that due to an imposed, or subconsciously trained, compulsion to submit to authority. They could then get rid of this tension and stress that is holding them back. In fairness, however, I will say that it should depend solely on Magnus' decision whether he feels like it and whether anyone is really in trouble because of some fear and he wants his opponent to play to the maximum of his ability with the peace of mind that no additional annoyances await him because of winning or losing. For the rest, people make mistakes for many different reasons. All in all, it probably wouldn't make sense in most cases. Well, maybe sometimes some gesture of support in this chess would be useful, but either way it would be a form of favor. So it's only up to Magnus himself if and when he wants to help others. After all, he is a great master from whom much can be learned even without this support behaviour.
@henrik78913 ай бұрын
Tf are you on about. This is a sport at highest competitive level and you want the guy to pretend that he made a mistake to make his opponent feel better? Completely delusional.
@szyada-ev3 ай бұрын
@@henrik7891 These aren't things that the mentioned players haven't yet done in tournaments. There have been times when they have purposely been late to a game in order to have less time than their opponent, or started the game with a bongcloud, which is an ridiculous opening in chess. In general, many players sometimes allow themselves to have a bit of fun or play for the audience which even adds to the appeal of the whole show. However, I'm not talking about serious tournaments at all, but about ordinary duels that sometimes these players have on many different occasions. You should be simply aware that not all chess games are played at 100% and kept only seriously. Watch a broadcast of a any tournament sometime and you'll see yourself.
