It's like there's a mental block that stops hikaru from beating Magnus even at winning situations lol
@ex0duzz2 жыл бұрын
That's because Naka has massive UN-curable trauma still from when he was still young and fresh. Below is why. During some tourney they both stayed at the same hotel and I don't know who invited who, but they both decided to have an unofficial blitz/rapid Match, as in faster time controls.. Not classical. Anyway, they played dozens, possibly even over 100 games. At this point in their careers, Hikaru was known mainly for his speed chess, and Carlsen wasn't as known as he is now for speed chess, everyone thought Hikaru would take it, but what happened was instead, Hikaru got crushed.. Both on the board, but more importantly, and in the mind. Nakas fighting spirit was broken. Before that he probably thought he could beat anyone, he was invincible, even if he lost he just needed to check or change a move order, and he could ultimately win. But vs Magnus, Naka was dominated, and the worst part was that Naka himself knew and admitted it. That was the turning point in their heads up situation. After that, in the chess community, Magnus has always been accepted as the favourite vs Hikaru at any time control, and nakas mental strength that started from blitz, also affected him in CLASSICAL games. That's how much that trauma blew up since then.
@wesleyb14582 жыл бұрын
Yeah he dominates these arenas like no other vs all other top gms and super gms but when it comes to 1v1 vs Magnus, it’s very tough

I wonder if deep down Hikaru is not afraid to play Magnus but subconsciously avoids all the responsibilities that it would entail to be the best. All the spotlight would be on him, and that would entail responsibilities off the board that he does not want to assume (Magnus is great also on this role). Hikaru is above all a free man.

I have mixed feelings as I feel he’s smart but kinda just nods along at people with extraordinary claims instead of teasing out those people’s reasoning (whether it would make them more believable or show the massive holes). But I guess it’s an interview style - get fascinating people, put in the work (unlike most other interviewers) to understand their subject matter… and just let them talk instead of trying to dig into stuff that might not add up. It lets people say more and feel comfortable. I just think some weird stuff gets said and unfortunately that makes it feel like Lex signs off on it. Idk, mixed feelings about him, but i think it’s great he’s doing what he does, considering other people are out there just for “gotchas.” It’s just frustrating because he’s one of the smartest interviewers out there and that makes me want HIM to be the one who gets to the bottom of things 😅 (Btw I’m sort of baiting to be corrected because I WANT to better appreciate him, so I’ll take the critique seriously!)

It’s so crazy because these players far surpass me, yet sometimes I will analyze their games and know for sure that I would play the computer move if I were in their position. However, they end up playing a weak/neutral move. 16:54 is a great example of this. As I watched it, I played Qd6 in my mind immediately. I wonder if such an advanced knowledge of the game clouds one’s assessment of trivial positions sometimes.
