@lizardstank11 ай бұрын
There isn't any animation on these moves which makes it harder to understand, but that's a pre-move (indicated by the red highlighting), he moves his own pawn over his own knight anticipating that white was going to take that knight with their own knight. When the white knight took magnus''s knight, the pawn takes the white knight happens instantly (because he pre-moved that pawn). The only real purpose to pre-moving is saving time.

im not that good at chess can someone pls explain why white didn't take the rook on f8 with the bishop earlier
@Iridescence Жыл бұрын
Taking the rook may not be beneficial for the opponent. Remember that the squares around the black king are dark, so controlling the squares allows White to have possible mate threats via a queen infiltration. Losing the dark squared bishop means that black runs out of attacking opportunities. Surely his light squared bishop is not useful when all of Magnus's pieces are in light squares... From the theoretical standpoint, losing the dark square bishop greatly weakens White in the midgame. Even from the absolute numbers perspective, there's not much that White gains from taking down a relatively passive rook. So the response to Bishop H6 that Magnus plays is Queen B6 which is lined up on the King's diagonal. If Bishop H6 takes the rook, you can play ND3, which can't be taken by pawn or bishop because Queen provides discovered check, and then if King moves, you can sac the knight for check, which results in winning a rook back, and there are now mate threats, and White must defend against the aggression and loses the bishop. The other idea here is that if King goes back to G1 after the knight check it's now forced checkmate by knight H3 discovered double check, queen sacrifices on G1 which can only be rook take and then knight F2 smothered mate. His opponent played the proactive move to move the king to safety then Qb2 wins a pawn, if Bishop takes now, white loses the bishop and the knight is forced to move, where all squares are undesirable and NE2 can result in getting XRayed by the white bishop in a turn or two while hanging the pawn on E5 which is an equal trade. Overall, depending how white plays this, they could either be up a few points of material for a bad position or end up mated. This is called compensation, and Magnus says he may sac the exchange in order for a better position where he now has many attacks on the white king while he is relatively safe since the dark square threat doesn't exist.
