Magnus did look a bit sloppy for no. 1 board at a WC. Fine and warning reasonable. But Magnus assuring improvement for day 3 also reasonable. Hard line FIDE probably too much. But no Magnus sloppiness with his thematic minority attack. A champ in his strategic element.

The people saying magnus's ego was hurt because he wasn't going to win the rapid championship and fide was right need to look at Magnus Carlsen's history. Just this year, he dominated chess by winning 10 tournaments. He has won the rapid and blitz championships so many times and has been the number one player for over a decade and a half. He made chess immensely popular just by playing and winning. Even those who don't follow chess know magnus carlsen and most people who follow chess tune in more often when magnus is playing. I don't think we will get such a player in a long long time. And unpairing him over something so meaningless over jeans is just stupid. Why would anyone have cared about his jeans? It was nothing flashy or distracting. Are the players going to lose games or go crazy if he is wearing jeans? Even if he broke this stupid rule, it was fine as long as they were fining him but forcing him in such a way and that too the number one player? Anyone would've walked out of there. As for the freestyle chess, why doesn't FIDE support Magnus and teamup with him to popularise freestyle and organise more events? Why does it matter if there are two types of chess tournaments as long as the viewers watch and love it? Everyone loves an exciting game. FIDE has really screwed up by going against the GOAT
