@AnonX32
@AnonX32 2 күн бұрын
@@Hosef-dv8bt You go queen lol If it's that easy, why don't you go and try to be a top level athlete? Having a split title just goes to show that both players deserved it, they both played amazingly well and deserved to be champions. The 3 tiebraker draws make that quite clear. If they kept playing, one of them would blunder at some point due to exhaustion and that would be for what? Just so a random dude on the internet is satisfied that we have a single champion instead of 2? The winner wouldn't have been decided by merit. They wouldn't be the champion because they performed better. This is definitely sporting. Sporting is not just about being a fierce competitor. Fair play in football, for example, wouldn't exist if that was the case. We're all humans here. Let them act like such.

I kind of don't understand how Nepo says 'yes' actually. In a couple years, he'll look back at this event and can't say "I was the best blitz player in the world at that moment and I proved it at the biggest stage". I don't think this feels remotely as satisfying as being the sole winner. I understand he's finished 2nd a lot, but I'd rather take the shot for a real world title and potentially lose than share the title and not know for certain you were the better player. (Also, I really can’t imagine how those top players must feel in that moment, and I can’t put myself in their shoes. So it's a really tough decision obviously.)

4 decisive games is nothing. This is the f ing world chess championship. At the world cup don't you think players are exhausted physically and mentally when after 120 minutes of high intensity football they play penalty shootout potentially forever until someone misses? This just devalues the chess world championship. Those guys are elite players they have no excuse to not play as many games as needed. Don't they have an hour to spare? Are they afraid they might miss their new year party? Then probably they shouldn't try to be called world champions

The only thing that was more embarrassing than splitting the title was the quality of the coverage. The coverage looked like a live stream from 20 years ago, pixels everywhere, terrible sound quality, the board animation never being in sync with the actual board, it was horrible to watch. How is it so hard to have at least an overhead camera over the board to be able to see the action?

Talking about the TTT coverage? What tools do they have for synchronizing with the board? I don't believe there's magnetic tracking that TTT has access to. I believe it's all done by hand. If they are doing this simply by tracking the video footage and manually inputting the moves, then they are doing fine. I'm asking because a surprising amount of people are unaware of how coverage of a blitz event differs from a classical event. "Why are the commentary just talking about the eval bar?". Because, if you could analyze the games fast enough to comment on it before the next move is made, you shouldn't be commentating the game. You should be playing the game. Was a treasure when they got Naroditsky to comment with Levy.

Magic has the ID, or intentional draw. Reason for this if players couldn't ID then they could conceivably play for the ID while wasting everyone's time. The key thing is you can't really ASK for a draw, or imply any reward. You can offer a split. And you can offer a draw, but the prize can't be connected to your rating because it's considered bribery. The closest I ever got in a tournament was someone telling me they didn't care about the prize they were just trying to get an invite. Which meant they wanted a concession in exchange for their chance at first place, and I would get any packs they won. Which was functionally bribery, but he didn't actually say it.

30:48 As a longtime mtg fan, you aren't entirely correct here. Splitting prize pools is one thing. If everyone remaining in the tournament agrees to it, they split the prize pool among them regardless of the results. But they still play out the rest of the tournament. There is still a single "winner", there just isn't a financial difference between 1st and 8th (if the prize split happens immediately upon reaching top 8). I'm fairly certain titles, or other non-monetary rewards like qualification spots for future tournaments, absolutely cannot be split or shared under any circumstances.
@mantizshrimp
@mantizshrimp 2 күн бұрын
I was in quite a few tournaments where people tried to split top8. Think I've never witnessed it , but because of how the rules are set, how would I know. In theory it was usually a top4 split and in some cases the winner was already also known because some people wouldn't have time or funds for the actual event they were trying to qualify for. (Edit - sometimes a matchup thing is also involved if the participants knew they're far behind in win% anyway)
@hell799
@hell799 Күн бұрын
Reminds me of the 2020 Olympic high jump competition, they also split the gold medal. The athletes argued that they want to find the highest jumper, not the one who has the better endurance. Guess it just depends on what you're looking for: who makes the best moves in chess, or who gets tired first and makes a mistake.

Similar to poker, where the two finalists may agree to split the prize money but will do something to decide who gets the title and trophy. Maybe keep playing, or just play one hand face up, best hand wins, or whatever they agree. Maybe in blitz chess an armageddon 8th game would do the trick.

This decision is all on FIDE. Magnus may ask the question and Nepo agreed but FIDE gives the answer. Whether they make that decision solely off the person asking the question is on FIDE. Magnus found a loophole and took it. Wanting 2 finalists who have already played 7 games between them to continue until one of them wins, leaving potential for continuous and continuous draws on NYE is enough motivation for anyone to come up with the situation Magnus did. This is entirely on FIDE I believe Magnus cared only about beating one person that day and that was Hans which he did. So him sharing a title with someone he probably considers a brother wont make him lose any sleep.

I just watched ‘behind the scenes’ from ChessBase India. What you described is not what happened. They asked the chief arbiter first to disuss with FIDE. They had to wait minutes for a decision. Then the chief arbiter came back with a piece of paper which they both then signed.

The last round of the first section 4 games were ended with agreed draws… so it’s not like unheard of

I like that they shared it after a long fight, but what if top 16 agree to share the title with endless draws? xD

After seeing agadmator's last video's title: "We are the champions" (I didn't watch that video yet) I got the feeling that this exact thing (Magnus and Nepo shared the gold medal) would happen! Not sure if there's rule about this, and I was so curious how it happened (before watching Gotham), came and watched, and still didn't get the idea of how did that happen, but my feeling turned out to be right Tbh, I dislike draws (by repetition or draw offers, only stalemate is valid) in chess, I always think there shouldn't be repetition rule, the person who repeat move(s) should lose! But if they have the repetition rule, I think letting 2 players sharing the podium is the most rational thing! I mean, should they play indefinitely instead? Lol 🤷🧐 Too many dramas in the past events; rapid WC, and now blitz WC lol

For all the haters saying Magnus was trash talking and having a bad performance himself now they all been quiet since Magnus started chucking all the players in the most goated way possible, your gukesh, murzin can't do this 🙏🏻

In the current format, if two players agreed to draw, the Fide can't do anything. They can draw the game by repeating the moves endlessly. Fide should clearly dictate that players will play certain (3 or 5 or whatever) no of games. If there is still tie, the higher ranked player in gr stage will be declared as winner.

One more thing, they love the game, they are great at it, probably the greatest, but they don't respect the game.

magnus can be heard in cb indias videi to say if fide does not accept the sharing proposal we can just do quick draw until they give up.This is literally matchfixing and if an arbiter hears this(which is on video)he must give zero points to both sides

If they want to keep on drawing then it's players headache...they will play 1000 games then and will realize that they have to win...you just cant escape like that

@@gunesanacak9452 How would it be match fixing if they play the best moves which result in a draw?? I think it is still match fixing but you can't really punish the players when they play the most optimal computer lines and draw every single time(Berlin defence death of chess etc. variation)
