I’m all for a good Broadhead and 2 holes. But this demonstrates why shot placement is once again far more important than arrow weight.
@forgerat
@forgerat 3 ай бұрын
Just for a counter argument if you used a lighter arrow with the same head your 15 and 20 would be a lot closer together. You’d still get massive penetration and you’d have a more forgiving pin gap.
@MichaelLakota-vc4tk

@@forgerat going lighter could have been a wounded deer that got away versus one that was put down on the spot. I always go heavier,even with my X-Bow. Not to mention my 80’s wristRocket ammo. Been slinging rocks,arrows, bullets and the biggest eye opener to argue the weight factor….waterfowl loads ever since 1972-3. Trust me. Talk to an avid waterfowl hunter with experience and then you’ll see how much “weight” alone is worth far more than speed. Speed “WITH extra weight” is the goal. Study the steel shot versus lead shot and newer nontoxic loads then bring that info into the archery world. It’s NIGHT and DAY lethal difference 😉

@@MichaelLakota-vc4tklighter would’ve given him the ability to hold and disregard any hold over/under at that distance hence he wouldn’t have hit high in the first place.

Congratulations Matt, meat in the freezer. I must thank you for making these vedios. I just took my biggest buck to date last week. SWAT X1 with 708 grain bolt, iron will wide single bevel, 21.5 foc. Your vedios helped me with my set up. Keep up the good work and thanks for the help 😊

not that bad of a shot for the fairly steep angle! in olden days I shot a basket-racked nice bodied deer quartering to me with a 60+ lb Indian xi round wheel compound and a bear razorhead lite 3 blade at about 15 yds. clipped the spine/shoulder blade.......2013 x x75 shaft broke inside the buck. he ran about 30 yds, reared up on his hind legs and fell backwards pushing that broadhead back out his top making a whole new hole, front of my arrow layed on the ground beside him. to this day my then hunting buddy has claimed I shot that deer twice......never believed me about what happened that morning. after all these years I still have that broken arrow/razorhead lite hanging up in my backroom with my bow stuff! I always enjoy your keeping it real!!!!!

Congrats an the deer, and the follow up. My deer was quartering toward me just under 20 yrds. The bolt didn't pass through. The lit lit nock looked to be right over the shoulder. Found the broken rear of the bolt about 30 yrd away. No blood trail.Searched for 3 hours that night in the direction I thought she went. The sound of coyotes in that direction disapointed me. The next morning I looked to the west of initial direction and found her untouched. The bolt had entered at the top of the vitals angled back and broke the top of the rear leg. Use a powerful crossbow with a solid broadhead and don't give up.

Had a doe sneak in on me, she spooked at about 10 yards and circled me at 35 yards into a lane and stopped. I knew she was gonna drop and take a step forward, so i aimed at the edge of her belly and front of the leg and then let loose... she still ducked under the arrow! Watched it happen in slowmode because of the lighted nock, its amazing how quick they are!

Congrats Matt! Things don’t always go the way we want but you made a clean ethical harvest. It’s all you can ask for. Did you notice any specific performance difference between this head & the Stinger 150? I haven’t been able to get the accuracy I need with the 150 SB heads. I’ve tried multiple bolts & crossbows. The Ser-Razor 150 shoots lights out

Granted, its only 1 sample w/ the single bevel...but I would say performance is better with the single bevel. What it did on this doe was phenomenal. Flight, I give the edge to the 2 blade stinger, its more forgiving. The single bevel w/ a crossbow, you gotta make sure your arrow is tuned well. Thanks as always for your support, Greg!!

@@draggindeeroutdoors Sending you an email. Happy to support & comment especially for my brother in Christ & someone so close by! I’ve got other single bevels that are 1/2 the length & flight is great. I have rotated nocks, tried different fletching & nocks. Most of the time they’re within the kill zone but that doesn’t satisfy me. I know I shouldn’t expect mechanical accuracy but I still do 🤷🏻 Just me being me. I’m gonna keep trying because I know the right combination is out there. Maybe it’s the Phoenix bolts. So far….. Blood sport Witness Gold Tip Ballistic KI Hyper Lite blue & red KI KE series B.E. Nothing like a single bevel head on a solid arrow setup. I wouldn't shoot anything else personally. If you haven't treied the Omega with bleeders from Vantage Point Archery, it is well worth a look. It has taken down game all over the world since released this summer.

So many variables in the last seconds of bow hunting. Been there dozens of times. The adrenaline has caused less than desirable results a million times. It takes so much self control to execute the same “ practice bag” shot on an animal. Learning to take an extra second or three to get control is vitally needed. The deer heard you draw at 20 yards. People don’t realize and learn the hard way that the material your clothing is made of is so important in keeping noise levels to a minimum. Pick clothing that is soft and quiet. Like softer cotton or polyester. Fleece is practically dead silent. And silence your bow. Those stupid arrow rests that pop UP as you draw are so pathetically loud as the arrow bounces around in the tongue as it rises. Use a rest that sets up in the cocked position. Cover those with something to eliminate the sounds as you draw. Think about the details folks. You should be able to draw almost deadly silent.

If you had been shooting a mechanical head you would have broken an arrow, likely only gotten 1 hole, and the broadhead would be toast. I shot a really big body buck a few days ago with a Cutthroat 150gr single bevel and put it right in front of the leading shoulder on a quartering towards shot. Passed through both lungs and the top of the heart then zipped out and stuck in the ground. When the deer turned it still had the fletchings in it, flipped the arrow up in the air into a bush. There was blood at the point of contact and good blood for 30 yards before it really opened up. Deer went 50 yards and expired. You don't need huge mechanical heads to harvest a deer and a 1 piece head like these will always survive where as a mechanical head is a coin toss.

A plan B arrow is never needed…. Until it is and only then does it shine. We should stop calling proper hunting weight setups heavy and just call them proper heavy gives a silly notation that they are slow and rainbows meanwhile they are just what’s effective lol.
