Excellent video. Well presented, well articulated, and just the right balance between being either too simple for experienced shooters and too technical for newer shooters. That is not easy to do so well done. You have a gift for presentations and deserve much higher view counts. All the best to you from England.

coming from a firearm background I understand this entirely. It's resonance matching. Seeing as an arrow flexes far far slower than a rifle barrel, where you match the bullet exiting the barrel at a specific flex point. That is a constant, the flex of an arrow is not as it changes throughout its entire flight

To remove the nocks, have you tried freezing the nocks with compressed air, and then tapping them out with a rod inserted up through the hole in the insert? Additionally, I'd recommend skipping the fieldpoint comparison part, and taking your three best arrows, put the broadhead of your choice on them, shoot them at 3 separate dots, and adjust scope accordingly. If the broadheads are grouping well, then you're good to go. And, if you want to shoot fieldpoints, just find out where they hit in relation to your broadhead group and use some "kentucky windage" to shoot them.

I have already started my tuning process I am replacing strings that I have in my standby pile I'm replacing cables as well,, Normally doing the off season if I'm not going to be shooting a specific bow I do take the pressure off the limbs however due to the things I was dealing with I was unable to do that for the past 5 months,, So definitely we'll be doing a fatigue stress test on them fortunately I do have replacement heads if I should have to replace anything and replacement limbs if I decide just to change the limb set up,,

Was the crossbow level and shot from the same mark and at rest on a table or tripod? I would think any tilt, even slight would alter the paper tuning results. This also made me think about my angle while shooting from a tree stand. Also, I'm using Sevr Robusto 150-grain broadheads with Zombie Slayer arrows/ bolts customized for Tenpoint Crossbows; When I screw in the broadhead, they all don't match up, inline with the arrow/ bolt fletching vanes. I tried using o-rings to align the broadhead; this didn't work. This last season, I wrapped teflon plumber's tape (which weighs next to nothing) around the broadheads' threads, and was able to align them. Additionally I was wondering, if the boadheads' alignment should be up and down and aligned with the cocking vane, or if it is okay aligning the broadhead flat with the shooting rail? Thanks and great video. I'm a new subscriber and I really enjoy the content.
@draggindeeroutdoors
@draggindeeroutdoors Жыл бұрын
Bow was level each shot but you’re correct, tilting the limbs left or right could affect results. With a tuned arrow, I haven’t found the need to align broadhead blades with vanes. If you still wanted to though, you can put your arrow/insert in hot water to loosen the insert glue and align it. Or when gluing in your own inserts, use something that has a decent work time so you can align.

My question would be directed towards the broadhead placement. You may shoot a practice head and its perfect but the broadhead does not line up the same. Does that change the accuracy?
@draggindeeroutdoors
@draggindeeroutdoors Жыл бұрын
Yes, this improves broadhead accuracy!! That's the whole reason I do it. It's very easy for the fletchings of an arrow to correct field point flight, not so easy for broadheads. My shooting through paper at close range we are catching how the bow is launching the arrow BEFORE that fletchings begin correcting. If the arrow launches "perfect" and makes a good tear through paper, that arrow is going to shoot a broadhead more accurately with less dependency on the fletchings to correct the flight.

I love your dedication and the effort you put into getting flight perfection! Most of us switched from compound bows because we wanted to hunt more, and tune less! And as some of us aged, we found it harder to draw a compound back after sitting in the woods for four hours or more. That said, crossbows are simply easier for us old hunters and typically require much less work. So, this seems excessive but I'm willing to try it and see how it goes when I order my next new batch of arrows and nocks! Do you really think this makes a whole lot of difference when you shoot at 25 yards even with a less-than-perfect flying arrow?
@draggindeeroutdoors
@draggindeeroutdoors Жыл бұрын
Thanks, Ron! Yes, this does make a difference even at 25 yards (especially with fixed blade heads). If you try it, take your best arrow and worst arrow and compare broadhead flight/accuracy. I think you’ll be surprised 😉

@@boomerrangerron you will find a major benefit for it. I personally do not paper tune but i do other things. Currently i am trying to get some china bolts i bought to fly great. Cutting the shaft and adding weight to the front seems to really help with the stiffness and i will be vane tuning to find the shaft stiffness.

Hi, great review. Barnett specifies that his HyperTac 420 crossbow uses “only” 22” 9.5GPI Hyperlife arrows. The Hyperflite are 22", OD .273" (6.93mm) and 9.8GPI (x 22" = 215.6gn + example 100gn tips = TOTAL 315gn) with "special" and dedicated nocks (similar normal compound bow arrow). Is it possible to use shorter (20"), larger (.345") and heavier (451gn) arrows? For example the Black Eagle Executioner 20" .346" (8.78mm) with Half Moon nocks and a 126gn tip for a total weight of 451gn. Do I have to use onlyBarnett nocks or are Half Moons also ok? Thanks in advance.

I just discovered this video some weeks after I bought my first crossbow kit (TenPoint Viper S415). Can you still select from 4-6 arrows after each has already been shot several times into a typical target cube for scope sight-in, even fletching deep a couple times (e.g. when a pre-existing hole was re-hit)? Is this process necessary because some nocks are glued or applied off-center or where not molded symmetrically? Also, how can you pass judgment on DIFFERENT bolts, without having first tested each bolt with each of its fletchings in the down position?

coming from my archery tuning for arrows. I shoot the shaft thru paper and turn the nock until I get the pest flight into the target - arrow points straight back to where I was standing. I might also shoot thru paper bare shaft. Then fletch them and shoot thru paper again. Does this work similar for bolts?

Typically no. When you find the best arrow orientation from your bare shaft tuning, fletch your arrow to that orientation. It's best to check and make sure you're getting good flight once your fletchings are on, but typically no further tuning is required.

Hey man, Im new to xbow scene this year. Have used compound vertical for a couple of seasons like 6 years ago so still knocking my archery dust off but something is really beating me up here... I sighted in my xbow with 400gr bolts and 100gr field points at 20 yds. Slap a 100gr mechanical broadhead on the same arrow and it got buried... tried a fixed broadhead and did the opposite about 6 inches high and right of bullseye... tried different arrows (Lumenoks 2" fletching) and same thing with both broadheads it was not patterning anywhere close together or close to where the field points or other arrows I tried with broadheads were hitting. Went and bought 6 370gr arrows and tried with the two broadheads and still cant hit the broadside of a barn. I have a Centerpoint Amped 425... any help? I already tried 3 different arrows and 2 different broadheads... Im runnin out of money! XD
@draggindeeroutdoors
@draggindeeroutdoors Жыл бұрын
Fixed blades and mechanicals are not the same aerodynamic profile as your field points (mechanicals are close...but not a field point). If an arrow isn't tuned to ensure its launching properly out of your bow...you'll have erratic broadhead flight. A simple nock tune should help clean up those groups.
