I got to test mine out quite thoroughly for a week while on vacation, and I think it's a must-have for the 12 Mini. Really handy while out and about without a phone charger. Yes, the charge is slow when compared to something like a power bank, but it's much smaller and lighter and you can use your phone very easily while it's charging since there's no cord. I've personally found that the best way to use it is to slap it on your phone when you're at a full charge, not when your battery is low. This way you're using the brick's power first, instead of slowly charging a dead phone. While I don't see the practicality of a QI battery brick for regular day-to-day use (I have chargers at my desk and in my car), I do think it's great for situations where you may not have access to an outlet (hiking, beach, airport, etc). The reverse charging feature is nice since you can charge your phone and the brick at the same time with one lightning cable. I think that feature alone makes it easy to justify the apple version over a 3rd party. Overall I'm happy with it and I recommend it.

When you use normal wireless charging you do not use the phone whilst doing it. This is the presumption if you use the MagSafe battery pack and is clearly sensible. If you are using to recharge I would just slap it on in quiet times and let it charge 20% or so, and do that 2-3 times a day to get through long days, that is, how you normally use wireless charging pads at home or in the office? I think people have misunderstood what this is, it is not to compete with a normal USB battery pack. I think that those that realise what the pack is about, it was never meant to compete with 20,000 mAh packs, it is there to give you that extra 4h SoT a day if you are a heavy user, so around 10h for all iPhones. This should cover 99% of users as not many people will be using their phone more than 10h a day? So the extra 50% charge the other ones provide really are not that relevant apart from very heavy users. The main issue is whether it is worth $100 and that is subjective as to whether having a certified MagSafe product is worthy of the extra cost. I think many will see it as a solid investment especially as it is likely to be interchangeable for many generations. None of these are perfect as this is a relatively new product line. Glad that Apple is offering us the choice even though it is niche. I am sure Android OEMs will be coming out with magnetic connectors (OPPO launching one soon).

To answer your question - the charger does charge when you are using your phone to stream music or videos. Sometimes the 5w charge will fail to charge the phone as quickly as the battery is being used but so it may sit at a specific % as the battery usage is breaking even. This normally happens when you are steaming a video using your cellular network. If you are just browsing and listening to music, it should continue to charge. Well. My 13 mini battery health has significantly gone down in the past month. The upgrade isn't worth it.

I drop mine in the parking lot of where I live it has two mini scratches now, but I wondered if anyhting on the inside could have been damaged but I will never know cause not a lot of reviews touch in the what not to do or prevent when using the battery pack

Is there some reason they can’t just build a wireless charger into a case instead of this over the top ubertech solution of building a magnet into the phone and the charger, which is likely to fall off and get lost eventually anyway? I have a great case which never falls off. No magnets necessary.

That iPhone 2G / Battery pack shot was clean. Woulda been nice to see a classic iPod in there, battery looks more like it. I feel the design was ripped straight from the iPod design

I use it on my iphone 14 pro max.... it's more like a battery extender and it doesn't get hot. Yeah. i work alot from my phone: calling clients, sending alot of texts and images; social media uses, screen recordings. So i left my house at 9am, 100% Iphone 14 Pro Max, 100% battery pack... by the time it was 2:30pm, battery pack had died. my phone was at 90% and that's with listening to music using my airpods, airpods for phone calls, screen recordings etc etc so comes in clutch...i feel for me if i were to travel and be ONLY ONLY on my phone somehow having 2 of them would be suffice for me...but yeah so far it's been a good experience by the time i was like 11pm i would say maybe i was at like 10-20% of my battery and put to charge

Can you charge the magsafe battery pack wirelessly on magsafe duo charger or does it only charge connected with lightning cable?
@A1techplus3 жыл бұрын
Yes you can charge the MagSafe battery with the MagSafe charger.

It’s tempting but disappointing. This could have been a great product if Apple had included both a MagSafe and USBC port for charging. Giving those who want to move up to USBC only cords an option for the iPhone . And Apple should have pushed the technology by using a solid state battery to give it much greater charge.

Wait for V2. People should always do this with anything imo

As long as it’s a MagSafe case yes. I own a MagSafe case that isn’t made by apple and it works great!

A big part of why the apple magsafe battery stays on is the they used a rubbery material which doesn’t slip as much.

Are they not making the smart cases anymore for newer models? I’m assuming this is the replacement.

idk if mine is faulty but definitely wasn’t worth it. charges extremely slow, don’t even know if it is charging, battery drains more than actually charging while it’s attached.

There is another Anker battery pack which is a bit nicer than the one that you showed on here and it has a stand it’s called to go Anker battery pack or something like that

I use it on my XR with a MagSafe case. The feels good on a bigger iPhone. I also have a 13 mini. The only downside when using an iPhone that's older than a 12 is that the features for the battery doesn't work. I can't keep the battery pack from charging only to 90% or pass it. Also, there's not battery indicator nor power meter on the iPhone when attached.
