Magura MT7 brakes installed on the 2020 Kenevo by the team at Berkshire Cycles. They are a super powerful 4 piston brake. Single piece forged aluminium callipers with new MDR-P discs paired with Loic Bruni levers for the complete package!
Brakes cost about £150 each (can hunt around for deals!) and the Loic Bruni levers andMDR-P rotors are added extras.
Check the brakes here at Magura's site: : bit.ly/2uAbzqB

I love my MT7s. I'm an hc3 lever guy though, so much so, that I even put the hc3 levers on my wife's MT5s. Turns out the hc3 levers fit on all the Magura brakes, even though Magura claims they don't. Great brakes. More powerful than codes and saints, and the modulation is somewhere between sram and shimano brakes.

I just purchased the specialized Turbo levo s works. I upgraded the brakes to the magura mt7 anniversary breaks with a 220 mm front rotor and a 203 in the back... Under most circumstances their whisper quiet and modulate beautifully, however when it gets really steep and I have to dig into the brakes deeply for more stopping power, they shutter like crazy, until the bike finally comes to a stop. The bike shop has worked on these breaks, and tried everything that they know to get them to function properly, I'm confident that the technicians know the ins and outs of how to make these brakes work properly however they have been unsuccessful, and they've had my bike now going on the second week. No amount of cleaning the discs, sanding down the pads, and attempting to bed the pads in properly, or checking the mounting adapters has proved to solve the problem. I spent more money to have what I thought would be the best breaks in the whole wide world with maximum stopping power and performance and modulation, and they have turned out to be the worst breaking experience I have ever experienced in the last 30 years of cycling. Any suggestions?

The first thing I done on the Levo was changed the brakes to Magura Mt7s the difference is night and day the performance is outstanding change the lever to single finger for more personal adjustment and they look good. One word of note is if you do get a local LBS to fit them make sure they are fully knowledgeable in Magura it makes hell of a difference. As I found out. I am sure you will love them Rob.

@@-zerocool- No, I'm conserving money right now, so I haven't acted yet. I happened to have my old Cannondale Jekyl out of the shed the other day, and had to jump on for a minute. The first thing that jumped out at me what how much more powerful the Magura brakes felt in comparison to my Levo. It's really night and day. Mind you, the Jekyl is 36lbs and the Levo is obviously more. I'm not a technical bike person - it may be that the Levo brakes are super for the Levo's larger rotor size. I'm just speaking as someone who used to love the stopping power of my brakes, and now find the Levo's weak. I'll need to do more investigation before I spend money on a switch, but I can imagine getting hurt on the Levo with the weaker brakes.

I think it's because of too many negative reviews about the levers and the idea that they're hard to bleed. In reality, they're ridiculously easy to bleed if you know the trick: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eJ2bgXaeh8aXjpI Sure, the stock levers suck on some of the models, but if you have the HC levers, it's a different story. Get hc3 levers and you'll be ruined for life. Maybe only the Trickstuff DH brakes could beat the lever feel of hc3. But even then, they're not worth the extra cost. I'm probably gonna run Maguras for life due to how hassle free they've been on 4 bikes for me.

@tamasvarga67
@tamasvarga67 4 жыл бұрын
Marc28031984 What are you talking about? Saints are one finger brakes with excellent modulation, you modulate with the power you pull the lever with your pointing finger. I’m using them on two bikes for four years in all conditions, I’d never give my money for anything else. SRAM brakes’ modulation is a marketing term for lack of braking power (that’s one reason you see 220 rotors). If you are used to SRAM then the power of the Shimano brakes seem overwhelming (just like the MT7’s for Rob in the video) but actually, they just work properly and you have the same power on the bottom as you had on the top. Code RSC with 220 rotors might be OK but two of my bikes came with Guide RS and RE and their lack of power a.k.a. ‘excellent modulation’ was a dreadful experience for me - after using Shimano brakes before - and the sticky plungers in the levers in summertime didn’t help either. I gave them a chance because I liked their look but eventually, I had to switch to Shimano because in the mountains they were terrifying for me.

Although these days, you could use the hc3 levers and use the leverage adjustment to increase modulation and remove the sudden biteyness. You can go even further by using the green sport pads. I run the sport pads with 180mm rotors on my hardtail, and they definitely feel more like sram guides. On my big bike, I use the gold race pads, 203 rotors, and have the hc3 leverage adjuster set to max bite, and they feel like Saints on steroids. Same brakes, but they feel completely different. Magura brakes can be very versatile once you know your way around them.

@@dukeofmtb I think we all ride better when we have confidence in our brake set up. Noticed that when I changed from to two finger to the one finger levers, my speed increased due to confidence in brakes working with one finger.

@@kevinargust3694 I agree. When my brakes feel like poop, I ride much slower. Can't go fast if you're scared that your brakes won't slow you down before the next corner. 😅

I like Maguara for their various products. The old rim brake and moto clutches are all great. However both my and a friend's MT 5 blew up. Literally, after a descent (nasty, long, steep) the brakes just "fell in" and there was blue blood (tm) squirting out of the lever. For that, I am a bit hesitant to run out and get an other set, whether it is MT5 or 7. ps: I am a firm believer of Saint and Hope (v4), but I use XT (4 piston too), but they are not quite Saint (though I prefer them for the front as they don't lock up as easily) ps2: I liked them while they lasted, but I hated how they sounded. Hopes can be squeaky but these just had this resonating whiny strange noise (I guess the split pad design !?) ... just my 2c....

@@RobRidesEMTB Yep :) I was a bit surprised when it happened. I had brakes "soften up" badly (Guide RSC), but squirting fluid is a different ball-game. Saints are like the XT but more on-off. I prefer them for the rear I think. My favourite is still Hope. I have them on one bike (of 4 bikes) and I am thinking of getting some for my new bike too :)

some write they Magura brakes are too sensitive and there is barely any modulation. I haven't tried them. I am not sure what that actually means for those that say or write so, barely any can be huge for some and the other way around.

Hi Rob, have these given you any issues? I know of someone who has had a few issues - namely front brake failure, for no apparent reason. They needed bleeding, but this was not an easy task!
@dukeofmtb

It's probably a little too late, but this might help: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eJ2bgXaeh8aXjpI They're actually super easy to bleed. And I also added in the trick to get the lever throw nice and short with a solid lever feel. If this doesn't work, then he has a faulty seal somewhere.

I haven't used Hydraulic brakes since the evil circle of leaking Shimano brake, which I gave up on. I currently use TRP Spyke. so far most recommended brakes from my Instagram followers is Magura & Trickstuff. With SHimano I read they are death traps, and they worked for years, some are lucky I guess, to get brakes that does not have faulty seals or failures. Some say the more expensive shimano brakes will do good from SLX and up. but I just given up on shimano, if they can't make proper budget brake that has good quality control and don't leak I am not having the same thing happen to me over and over again, I am done. I wish I could test stuff without buying it. butt the current setup is not perfect, but at least I don't have to deal predictable inconsistency, leaks. but the weak point of TRP spyke is flimsy levers, and weak barrel adjuster on caliper that can snap on a impact or will bend due to rear suspension movement it destroys the threads on barrel adjuster, and bends it, so swapped barrel adjuster from another caliper & turned it all the way in, to minimize the play. I have review of the ML800 levers and the Spyke caliper on my website.

I'm yet to see anything in the bicycle brake kingdom that can outperform my tektro auriga V-Twin setup. Obviously there limited on what forks you can stick them on unfortunately. But my god they stop!! I've quite often locked my front wheel up in the dry on my 50kg E-bike and in the past when i had my tyre slightly underinflated I stripped the valve off the inner tube.

This is way off topic I have a norco sight vlt 2 and I have tremendous chain drops I’ve changed the derailer and everything still massive chain slap. Just wondering is there a chainguide for a shimano steps e8000 or is there a tensioner on the motor side to not have the chain slap so much? Thank you

Great breaks and they look the business on my previous 2019 Levo. shrani.najdi.si/?1F/m0/2M7Pg4h6/turbo-2.jpg Bleeding is more or less straight forward, similar to Shimano, if you follow the instructions. Little fiddle to set up, if you don't want any small rubbing noise, as the pads are really unbelievable close to the rotor, even after 500km+. For 2020 Levo, will try new XTR and gave Magura a pass. shrani.si/f/2S/lC/2oZZO3i2/screenshot-81-copy.jpg O. I like those new Magura rotors, almost as new XTR. 😎
