I've been doing some science and found out cavitation depths for the Seawolf. 35kts - 425ft 20kts - 200ft 15kts - 125ft 10kts - 50ft It's insane how much faster the Seawolf can go at shallower depths without cavitating. Very useful information for SE Asia.

If you look at the Seawolf text file you'll see the formula that relates speed to cavitation depth: Dcav = 15*Speed - 100. For the other US subs it's Dcav = 20*Speed - 100.

I think it would be cool to try to attract a straight-running homing torpedo towards an enemy ship if you're in a very fast sub like the Seawolf or LA class.

OK WTF?!? Every time I start cavitating with a torpedo around it immediately locks on to my cavitation.

yes ist fun. not total realistic Immersion but ist a good mix of using realistic gameplay and arcade-ness IMHO

21:16 You're not getting too deep yet. A Seawolf has a depth rating of 1,600 feet. So they should be good up to 2,000 ft with an intact hull.

Advanced subs will appear later, when Russia will decide to support China (sell advanced weapons because of money problem, according to campaign plot. (0_o) What the ... ?)

According to the campaign's news articles (at the opening of th ecampaign): >Russia sold a bunch of military to China because they were our of blins money. So china already has some Russian stuff with P.L.A.N stickers on them, but when Russia decides to join in support of China, they will also have Russian ships without Chinese inside of them.

Can someone please explain to me how the signature strength analysis works in this game? How do you figure out how good the enemy sonar is and predict when they will and wont be able to hear you?

there are two Banks of strength Analysis. the top one is for you detecting the enemy. the bottom is for the enemy detecting you. when you have correctly classified the enemy it Shows how Close you are to being detected.when the value is 0 or more than 0 then they have an idea where you are. when ist -30 they have no idea you are there.you can test this out by cavitating and see how the values Change. when you increase Speed YOUR values (the top bank ) get worse because it is harder for your sonarman to hear when the water rushes faster over your hull.

If you need to evade a torpedo you don't really even need to use noisemakers, just spam knuckles and avoid moving vertically unless necessary. It's the most efficient way to do it I've found-you can gain distance on every torpedo in the game as long as you knuckle every time the torpedo reacquires. Admittedly it does make for somewhat boring gameplay, but then again if you're going to be evading for five minutes anyways, you might as well ensure success. Give it a shot some time?

I have, Not moving Vertically to pull out of search cones in my experience actually lowers your chance of successfully evading the torpedo. Also while Knuckles are fantastic on lower difficulty levels they not reliable on elite, Often Torps will move right past them without even disengaging as they would with a noisemaker.

MagzTV that's odd, I've been almost exclusively using the strategy I've outlined on the maximum possible difficulty setting in both the 1984 campaign with the LA class, as well as the 2000 campaign with the Seawolf, and it's worked flawlessly for me. The only time knuckles have failed to break the torpedo lock is when they're not created directly between the tail of your sub and the torpedo (which tends to happen a lot more if you're moving along all three axis instead of sticking to purely horizontal movement).

noticed that too, especially airdrop torps (btw ı play on realistic) ignore knuckles around 20 percent of the time if they are past a distance threshold and unpredictability is a crap thing, letting torps mass up then shooting a moss is always better

I like to use MOSSs too, but it depends on what the situation is. If you're already above 20 kts or you don't have 2 MOSSs loaded, it just doesn't work very well I've found, but if you are not traveling particularly fast and you have two MOSSs loaded, shooting two off within 10-30 degrees of each other is very good at taking torpedos away from you with a very low probability of them turning back around to you. As for the reliability of spamming knuckles, I've found they fail to distract torpedos maybe 5% of the time? It was never really a problem for me when using this tactic, which is why I'm surprised to hear other people don't use it more often. If I stream the game again sometime soon maybe I'll take a recording of an encounter where I'm detected in order to demonstrate this tactic.
