It was first performed by Shri K,S, Krishnamurthy, a renowned musicologist, accompanied by the shri Lagudi Jayaraman and Shri Vellore Ramabadhran in 1976.This song has been sung by many well known artists like TV. I commented on the lyrics-----there are errors in the lyrics as pointed out. No matter how great a singer's voice is, it is important to get the lyrics correct.

Hello sir Namaste, Actually the exact name is "Chamaram" and as you rightly said, is made of flywhisks from the mane of a horse. I'm not sure if the flywhisks are obtained from a white horse alone. But I've seen chamarams of grey,brown colors as well in many south Indian temples. Yes it's waved in front of god as a mark of respect and devotion. Don't listen to them okay? They try to criticize him because they themselves are insecure and are worried about how they'll be judged in the future but unfortunately they'll have to face it. The truth hurts but it's better than being dishonest. I understand your feeling. Don't feed into any of the criticism being brought into the comments. Just ignore and just enjoy the music!! I sing too by the way. Positive note is, I've been singing my whole life, from North Indian music to some Bollywood and western music as well. I think Shankar-Ji is also one of my inspirations for not just Indian classical music but also for Indian Bollywood so I enjoy his songs and I really recommend that you all enjoy his music whether it's through an audio recording or a live performance. Don't worry so much about what others say. It's their opinion and sometimes we can agree and sometimes we have to disagree. We don't have to agree with every single one. Just enjoy the show!
