She was so famous. "Let there be peace on earth" truly an ecumenical song applicable to all religions and nations. I remember each time Mahalia Jackson appeared on a TV program, it was like a special event.

One thing Mahalia's life taught me.... GOD IN JESUS CHRIST IS REAL!!!!. When I started on this road in my life, I asked God specially if this road is real or a fairytale.... God introduced to this woman and has been a balm to my soul...... Thank you, Holy Sprint for showing me in "real-time" how creative you are!!!!

Thank you for posting this song. It has special meaning for me: it is also the National Theme Song for as association of Spiritualist Churches in America. Wherever you go, in any state, they sing this song and if you know it you can join in. Mahalia and her producers were far sighted to have her record it 30 years ago. It once was a pop song but now is a church hymn.

The "kat"s on the keys are Dr. Charles Clency on the organ, and the late Gwendolyn Lightner on the piano during the concert.

She died from a heart attack. The touring took a took on her heart along with the poor diet she had. She meant well. Her heart and sould was ministry in song for the Lord and she ignored her health in the process.

I'm not really good at waitin'. I always like things to get done and be done right then n' there. I'm always afraid of wastin' time waitin' instead of doin'. I don't know how she did it, but she did it.

I saw one too when she was skinny. I could barely recognize her. It was 1967, and she was singing "Without A Song" in Berlin, Germany. Something kept buggin me on how she lost all that weight. It kind of scared me.
@q.c.chieftain30858 жыл бұрын
If i'm not mistaken Mahalia lossed alot of weight years before she died. I also seen pictures & the video from 1967 in Germany. She looked much older & her last television appearance in 1971 on the "Flip Wilson Show" a few months before her death, she looked very healthy & gained some weight back. In her open casket photo she looked like she lossed alot of weight again.

Which video are you talking about for one? She had several heart attacks over the years, which (along with her eating and steroids) caused her weight to fluctuate. In late January of '72 she did have her bowel operated on and did not live long after the surgery...

Pretty much your body (inside and sometimes out) is riddled with tiny tumors. it can effect your breathing and already being a heavy woman, mahalia really had it rough. Berney Mac had this as well. And your welcome about the documentary post.

The Video she sang The Lords Prayer, Just A Close Walk With Jesus. And at the end of her song, they showed her furneral. She was very small. Do you know that anyone has a funeral of her again? Because at the end of that video you could not see her face in the casket. The video was to dark. I want to see all the famouse people and friends atMiss Jackson funeral.

How do you know all that? I am curious, as most Internet refences say that she died from heart failure...
@BaritonalHaunting15 жыл бұрын
Lord Have Mercy. She must have went through alot. I read at one point that she went into the hospital so that the doctors could remove a sarcoid tumor, but I just thought that it was just as normal as a regular tumor. I had no idea it was critical. Then again, all tumors are critical. What exactly is sarcoidosis? I've never heard of it?

Mahalia looks very ill during the stage performance -- she is very puffy and looks weak. This was before many of today's diuretics had been developed, so it was hard for her body to get rid of excess fluid, further stressing her heart. She must have felt tired all the time...
