Years back, Penn and Teller pointed out some basic rules of magic. The first rule they mentioned was that you never do the same trick twice. That's to ensure that folks won't pick up on how you performed the trick. You, however, did do the same trick twice and they still didn't get it. Absolutely incredible.

I always assume when a magician breaks this rule (one good enough to be performing for a crowd) that they are doing the same trick with 2 independent methods, and this is sort of a meta trick on top which allows them to just barely tease one method and then fool your expectations by using a contrasting method while you’re expecting the original to be repeated.

Exactly! So many (almost everything) gets blocked, and stripped from people. Literally, original music has been stripped from the person who created it due to a 6 second sound clip that sounded similar to another piece of music. Penn and Teller are far richer than most of us will ever be. (Their views on certain things are somewhat incorrect as they only see this side of being successful at it) I have never heard of either of them treating anyone like shit) That shouldn't be the "high bar" but it is. I have heard nothing other than stories of their generosity.....in all manners it encapsulates. Other than Penn not letting Hitchens drink in his house. (I respect him for the "my house my rules" thing) Inviting Hitch over is to assume he would have been drinking. Which actually shows me that Penn is even better than I would have been. (but I'm a drinker)

Actually it's easier for him, with no hands, as Penn was trying to get him to admit. You see, a magician with both of his hands can't toss cards around in a sloppy manner without alerting the audience to their trickery. What I mean to say is if Penn had been up there, and he was moving the cards all sloppy like the handless guy, the audience would immediately deduce that he is cheating. However, when the handless guy makes a questionable move, you excuse it, because...he has no hands. This makes it easier for him to do all kinds of trickery because you will automatically chalk it up to him having no hands. Imagine if Penn had gone up there and manipulated the cards in the same manner as the handless guy. You be crying foul at the first sight of any unconventional hand movements. That's what gives the handless guy an edge, he doesn't have to conform to your ideas of how a magician should or shouldn't do a trick, he is beyond all accountability. That is a huge asset in the world of magicians.

I'm one of those magic fans who love the techniques, the gimmicks and watching for the switches & picks & dumps and while I'm pretty sure I know both how and when the different parts of the trick were done, it was so clean, honestly one of the most impressive performances of oil and water I've ever seen. And I watched like 25 times before I felt confident that I could pick the when's, but like I said, I didn't see the when's. I just know that the when's had to have been then and then, because there was no other opportunities Seriously outstanding. If a magician without a disability did this trick this clean, it would impress me. I'm beyond impressed.

Honestly one of the most inspiring magicians. It looks so simple and it's hard to see where there was space to manipulate the cards, and they aren't covered up by hands like they are usually with sleight of hand tricks, just incredible. When I was a kid (maybe about 12-15) I went to a Penn and Teller show on about my 5th vacation to Vegas. These guys were not only incredible magicians and comedians, but they were genuinely some of the nicest men I've ever met. We were also fortunate enough to do a meet and greet with them after the show. Teller completely caught me off guard with how outspoken and polite his is off stage, and Penn is exactly how you'd imagine from his stage presence. I remember talking to them for a good few minutes and before we left, they asked if we'd brought anything they could sign for us. The only thing I could find on my was my wallet that had a little money and jokingly asked if they'd autograph a 1 dollar bill. Both kinda laughed at it but then said "sure." While Penn signed it, he also marked out the word "God" in sharpie and said "just remember that any time a government has to bring up God, it's because they're trying fuck you over while pretending to be righteous." As a kid of that age, it was pretty much the first time I'd ever heard anyone say that but it stuck with me to this day. Now, in 2021, his words seemed absolutely prophetic and I am genuinely grateful for having seen and met these guys in person. If you ever get the chance, I would HIGHLY recommend catching one of their shows, especially if you get the chance to talk to them. Absolutely lovely gentlemen.

From my neck of the woods, the most common phrase involving God and government would be "God save the King/Queen." A righteous phrase for sending soldiers off to battle, to probably die in place of their monarch. So I'd agree, Penn really hit the nail on that coffin!

Don't fool yourself. All people with disabilities (mental or physical) go through a period of victimhood, how long it lasts depends on the person. I believe what Penn and Teller were referring to was the use of a trick deck. This guy is so good he doesn’t need it. And his sleight of hand is undetectable. Awesome stuff!

When I was a kid, I watched a man with one hand pitch a no-hitter in the MLB. His name was Jim Abbott. And he proved to me that you can do anything, if you try hard enough.

I saw him pitch at the Skydome in Toronto and it was one of the few games I had seats behind home plate. It was a one-hitter for most of the game. The most amazing part was the speed with which he got his hand back into his glove to grab a smokin' line drive. Now that was a magic trick!

Pitching only requires one hand.

@@tc1817 pitching AND fielding with a glove is done with 2 hands by everyone except for Jim Abbott which is what makes it remarkable let alone he threw a no hitter on top of it all

@@khalnayak1234 Dumbass, THROWING a no hitter requires ONE hand. He may have had to field the ball, or he may not have had to. Yes, he did practise fielding, but that is not necessary to THROW a no hitter.

That was incredible. I love that P&T thought they knew the method that would normally be used. To invent magic tricks specific to you and not only that but to work and look great is amazing.
