Down in Key Colony Beach in Marathon trolling the offshore waters with hot pink skirts rigged with a ballyhoo trailer. Weather wasn't bad and the bite was slow but I had a great time in the Stream....So here's the full version for this year.....If you haven't been to the Keys you're missing a good time fishing and a wonderful time eating at some great seafood joints in Marathon and I did plenty of both.....Catch you on the flip!!

OFF Fishing .....Thanks BJ!! It's strange but I always seem to catch these fish in a narrow area off Sombrero Light in about a 1/2 mile area!! I try to anticipate problems but I know slow and deliberate is the safe way on a small boat especially with big fish and anything with teeth because I don't want a trip of falling overboard or a stitch job at Fisherman's Hospital.....Been there done that!!

Out and About Outdoors With Ron and Friends.....Thanks!! Last year I got down there just as IDA rumbled by Key West and the flotsam in the way of trees and other assorted wood was everywhere and while Sargassum attracts a lot of fish the rafts were pretty much void of life this year but I've been trolling for over 30 years and I never miss a trip down there.....It's always a new experience and a ton of fun.....Sea Ya!!

SK's CRAPPIE Catchin Adventures.....Thanks!! You talking tasty that HOO as far as I'm concerned is the best tasting fish and can be eaten any way you like.....You rarely find it on a menu!! This was 2 weeks in Marathon a compilation because I really don't feel like editing and this thing took me 3 hours to get it to the tube after I got home!! The boat is my 18 ft. center console Pro-Line which I just repowered and the different looks were from the same boat.....Things are a little more complicated when it's a solo trip and when the sargassum is this scattered I won't put out a full spread using the outriggers.....The prop wash flat line is extremely effective and a one on one situation is a lot more manageable than a 3 line spread.....Have a great week!!

Thanks Jim!! Typically I go after school starts here in Florida usually after the 19th of August just to get away from all the ZOO Lobster traffic.....It's pretty quiet into September!! I have stayed in Key Colony Beach for years.....Easy access to the Gulf and Atlantic. I typically troll south out to 650 ft. which is about 12 miles. Usually all the Hooz are caught in 200 to 300 ft. in the Blue Water. My favorite area is due south of Sombrero Light in the same depth. My favorite plastic is a hot pink skirt with a rigged medium ballyhoo a #8 hook with about 12" of No.7 monel single strand wire. My speeds are consistent at 2,000 rpm's. I troll for Flipper using the same rig. When these trips are solo I no longer run a full spread of baits just the prop wash center position. Last year Adalia washed out my trip and I left to secure my house in Bayport north of Tampa.....I've got videos going back a few years from down there if you're interested....Good luck!!

@@WesLovelace I was down there from 98-2001. Things were a bit different then. Now you have to interview to get accepted. Back then, if you had the money, they would train you. Places like Embry Riddle are an actual school where yo get a 4 year degree along with your pilots license. I went to Flight Safety where I earned most of my flight certificates, but there is no degree associated with it. I came there with a 2 year tech degree in cable TV systems, which didn't matter to them.

My son and I rented a place in key colony for the 2024 mini lobster season in July. Can you still catch wahoo/dolphin/blackfin in late july in that same area you are talking? What should I be targeting that time of year?
@WesLovelace
@WesLovelace Жыл бұрын
@@redfishjones7711 I use to do the Mini but now prefer dates after the start of school during the regular season(maybe 2 days).....No people either inshore or offshore after school starts..... but most of my best trips have been after August 15!! Flipper can be found just off the reef about 5 miles in 150 ft. out to 600 ft..... 15 miles....this is my target area. Most of the Blackfins have been on the Hump and The Wahoo have been from 200 ft. out to 650ft. I've got a few places to deep drop for Snowy's in 600 to 700 ft. but I believe that season goes out somewhere about August 15th!! Flipper is your target and I'm dragging rigged skirts.....Fall is a better time for Whooz.....The skipjacks/blackfins are around the hump in the spring and summer. I've rented in KCB for over 25 years....It's fishing and eating seafood at some great places every night that keeps me coming back every year.....Also KCB is very restrictive as far as rules but there is no crime in there....Make sure you drive at 25 mph the posted speed....They do hand out tickets and are constantly running radar.....Like the sign driving in on the causeway says...."What's you're hurry.....You're Here Now....LOL.....Enjoy!!
