I still remember as a kid (45 years ago) listening to old timers then tell stories of pre logging every hole holding 15 inch brookies. I’ve spent close to a full year of my 53 years walking that water.
@hardmanfishing9 ай бұрын
I 100% believe it. I’d bet there are still a few in there. Or at least some fish pushing that size. I wonder if the rainbow competition hasn’t lessened the amount of big brookies too
@Sim_Sams9 ай бұрын
Oh no doubt... 'bows grow too fast the number of Brookies that survive to reach that size would naturally be affected. Ive never been a fan of Rainbows or Browns getting introduced to the native Brook-holding waters in Appalachia. I dunno what its like on the WV side but in TN you have to reeeeally get up in that high elevation/skinny water to get to the Brookies. Given youre walking 9 mile round trips I have a feeling you understand what thats like lol.
@austin270495 ай бұрын
@@Sim_Sams You don't exactly have to get to super high elevation, you just have to find areas where rainbows don't exist. The rainbows are single handledly the biggest threat to brook trout and why they aren't prevalent anymore. If you go to any stream in the Tennessee mountains that doesn't have browns or rainbows, you can pretty much guarantee there will be brook trout.

This style video is really the best. Like I’m fishing with my buddy just talking. I like to hear what’s working or not working what you’re thinking when you approach holes and falls etc. Learning to read water, how to use natural foliage to stealthily hit a hole, that stuff makes more sense when you see it in action.
