Thanks for taking the time to produce a thoughtful video. However, for anyone viewing this as a guide to service their new 4540/4550 they would be well advised to service all the fluids including the front differential including the lower units! No service is more important than getting that original break in oil out. Once a person physically sees the magnetic drain plugs there will be no doubt about this!!

@@TheSonsOfSimon I LOVE it! I need more implements ofcourse to distribute weight so I can do more with it. It's still trucking.This thing is strong! I'm never going to get rid of this. Yes there are problems with everything but I can't see where something else is any better. I do wish it was 4WD!

Nice video.... I would add a couple of things for the novice or less experienced. Those two oil drain plugs are divided by a 'hump' between the two sides. After pulling the first plug, if you wait a few minutes and then pull the second plug, you'll get almost another quart of dirty oil drained. Also, those plugs have magnet inserts. Take note of the amount and size on any metal fines collected and clean the recessed area of the gunk & fines before reinstalling.

I thought it was some kinda huge process because the local dealer mentioned that they will do the 50 hour service for $850 whopping bucks. So I came here and it’s basically a oil change. Thanks for the video I feel much better knowing it’s just a simple oil and filter change.

Hank - You might want to edit the video to put an info box when you talk about the oil filter turning 'clockwise' to remove. I discovered the hard way (Crushed the old filter trying to remove it) that these filters are normally threaded. From a 'top down' perspective.... sure it's clockwise... but from the direction of installation... you turn the filter counter clockwise to remove and clockwise to install.

When doing the hydraulic filter, loosen the 2 bolts a ¼ or so that are that pipe and block pull away. I usually put a screw driver (very carefully) to keep it wedged out. The block on pipe interferes with rim of filter. Filter spins right in.

The filters aren’t clockwise, it depends on how you look at it. If you look at it from under it it’s turning counter clockwise.

I had a problem with the hydraulic filter not wanting to thread on, and found the filter was rubbing the housing. I used a side grinder to remove a small amount of the housing and the filter went on like a charm.

You are correct Steve, same problem with mine, not sure why the engineer's didn't machine a flat on that hard line housing, it would have solved the whole problem, I took the housing loose(two 12 mm bolts) moved it aside and filter screwed right on, if you don't do this, you run a risk of galling the threads on tractor or filter, or both, then you'll have big trouble, not to mention the metal particles that in may created, not good for a hydraulic system, hope this helps a newbie that will run into the same problem, love your videos by the way.....thanks Hamilton Farms 😁

Mine was rubbing on the left side. The line coming from the left that goes into the square block piece. I loosened the two screws just enough to push that back away from the filter and it went right on. Tightened them back up afterwards. Thanks for the video!

I think there probably is. Probably helps with the initial flow after the oil change. I'm getting ready to change my fuel filters and my dealer said to make sure I fill them with diesel before I put the new ones on. Although I didn't do it in this video,I'd probably say its a good thing to do. 👍

Good video. I'll be doing the 50 hour on my 4540 soon so you answered a few questions. Have you ever thought about filling your oil filter with oil before installing it? I've been doing it that way for years on my cars & trucks and I like the thought of starting the engine with a full filter & crankcase.

The hydraulic filter issue i had was the top ring on the filter was hitting the fitting for the fluid line and it woukd not turn on all the way. I had to file that fitting as well as take the ffiler to the grinder and remove some materialfrom that ring. Then it spun right on. Poor machining.

Do you get a lot of loose lines etc? I have seen a lot of people saying that on KZbin. They say loose hydraulics, leaking fuel lines, etc. I don't have much experience with engines, so I either have to start learning or get a tractor that doesn't require a lot repairs.

Not at all. I just went over 200 hours and zero leaks any where. Been pleased with it. 👍

Thanks for the information, especially the part numbers. For some reason Mahindra has you put in your serial number to get the manual in PDF format, but then doesn't put in the part numbers in the manual. This is a bit irritating when there are at different filters for 2WD and 4WD models.

Mine came with it,yes you need a 3rd function kit ...WR Long works great. Get a wicked grapple from EA. That's what I wish I had. 💪

@@haroldjohnsond1124 wr long is the company that makes the 3rd function kit that operates the grapple. And EA is everything attachments that makes the grapples that are outstanding. Google everything attachments and see what they offer. I'm new to this stuff too😁

Just done my 50 hr service today, my hydraulic filter was hard to put on as yours was. Took awhile, must be issue with threads either on filter or tractor. Was hard to remove as well. I went ahead changed fuel filter to, no water or grit. New oil filter red, once removed the original filter was red on backside, must have painted motor with filter on.

I only drained the water fuel separator I didn't change the fuel filter.

If you don't oil the oil filter seal it will stick to a hot engine and then good luck getting it off.

The reason for the hydraulic suction filter gets stuck on taking it off and putting it back on on a 4540 Mahendra the problem is whoever engineered the suction tube up on top. It’s close to the filter rim when you try to screw the filter on the lip of the filter, rubs on the edge of the tube where I normally did is took a grinder and grind it my filter all the way around a little bit Made it flat all the way around. You could also get your grinder and make a flat spot right on top of the suction tube where it’s rubbing and you will not have no problem taking filter off and putting it on engineered the tube to close to filter.

I noticed you didn’t clean the transmission screen. I’m about to do my 50 hour service and my manual says to clean that screen. Is there a reason you didn’t clean the screen? Looking at mine it looks like all the fluid will pour out when I pull the cover off for the strainer.

I did not clean the screen. Several tractor mechanic friends of mine have said it really doesn't need to be done until about 150 hours ...take that however you want. I opted to wait. I'm gonna be doing mine very soon. I have 147 hours on mine. You are correct though when you say fluid is gonna leak everywhere.

So Bubba if you do this on a 50-100 hour basis, this Tractor should last a lifetime right? Do you still feel this is a solid Tractor? I missed my chance I could have purchased a 4540 w loader 4 wd for $17,700 before tax. It was a left over 2017 model however I talked to the dealer today and it was sold. He has a 4550 but not anywhere near that price. I'm still eyeing these models because I like old school and the competition cant touch it. Good video Bubba. I just finished a grading job for a builder yesterday. 8 tandem truck loads of dirt. I have an LS 33 HP.

The tractor is solid! Do I wish I had a hydrostatic transmission? Eh, sometimes. When I'm doing a couple hours of going back and forth for short distances I think about it. But then I look at what I paid for it and I quickly realize how much I love this tractor 🙂 seriously though, so far I'm digging it. And yes, PM every 50-100 hours is key. I'd recommend a Mahindra to anybody.

I did my 50hrs today I put 2gal oil back into it that was to much oil . I did not get 2 gal oil out . I'm wondering is it because I only pulled one drain plug??

No, either plug works. ...if your dipstick shows your good, then I wouldn't worry about it unless you see some obvious leaks.

@@Hfoutdoorsyt Hey Hank and Mike S, I know this is 10 months too late... I just bought a used 4540 a week ago and decided to change the oil and oil filter this weekend. (I appreciate the video by the way....). However, I think you do need to pull both Drain Plugs. I pulled one and let it drain for ~ 2 hours while I was doing other stuff. The magnet on the plug needed to be cleaned so I thought "hey I might as well pull the other one to see if it is dirty as well. I was not expecting any oil but when I pulled the 2nd plug, about 1 or 1.5 quarts came pouring out. So I am thinking we need to pull both plugs. I don't know what the inside of the drain pan looks like but it obviously still had oil left in it. Anyway, not sure if they changed the drain pans over the years in that model of tractor. My 4540 was bought new in Nov. 2018. But that would explain why Mike S. had too much oil after adding 2 gallons. Mine was right on the money when I checked the dipstick afterwards. Oil filter was a major pain to get off but I finally got it. I plan to tackle the Hydraulic Suction Filter next weekend. Just wanted to bring this up. I watched thus video as well as the Greasing the 4540 and I appreciate your efforts on both of them! Ya'll have a GREAT day!

Put it in at the yellow cap by the gear shift lever. It says transmission oil on the cover. On the floorboard between your feet 👍

Do some research on blended oils. Semi or blended oil is not 50/50. I am a amsoil nut. I know I know amsoil.....lol I get it a lot, but that is what I like. Rotella t6 is 100% synthetic and cheap. I will run rotella if I'm in a financial bind. Great stuff, tremendous stuff, it will do great things.
