Theory: Muzan was going to kill all of Tanjiros family, but he's smart enough to do some surveillance and know how many people live there, when he noticed Tanjiro wasn't there when he massacred them, instead of wasting time waiting for him to come back to kill him, he turned Nezuko into a demon so she would kill Tanjiro when he returned.

If the goal were to kill Tanjiro he would have sent a Moon. He had Kokushibo help him kill other SBreathers so why not this one? Surely he could have sensed a Hashira coming. No way a starving low-tier Demon would have stood a chance against a Hashira.

Well yes but giyuu may killed nezuko after she killed tanjirou. So its pretty good plan but it has some cons. Such as tanjirou coming way too early for nezuko to properly turn. Remember giyuu met both of them in a forest after they fell down a cliff on the way to the town(or was it a city?) So if the plan went well giyuu would've arrive after nezuko killed tanjirou. Basically muzan did a gamble and fail really bad.

I am pretty sure the last one was mentioned somewhere, Muzan went to the kamados and turned one of them into a demon in an attempt to make a demon invulnerable to the sun, which he did succeed in doing. He went to them exactly because they're the only remaining Sun Breathing users

Why would he do just one? There are 5 kids, it makes no sense to transform just one. Also, in the manga panel I used, he clearly said "They", meaning that he tried to convert at least one more. However, non of that explains how he missed that Nezuko is alive, because all of this disintegration shit still applies to her and if she stayed in one piece, he should have realized that.

He's exhibited control over demons before, so it could be he just let her go to see if she would develop sun immunity. From his perspective if she did, it wouldn't be hard to exert his control over her an assimilate her immunity. If she didn't, then she was just another demon running about in a remote location. Without hindsight, it all would just be a low risk, high reward experiment.

I theorize that Muzan came to Kamados because he got to know that family of that DS is there so he went personally. Decided to experiment in the meantime. Possibly for 1000 years he has seen that some people doesn`t melt, maybe it`s weakness(weak people melt) or power of bloodline(doesn`t allow people to melt) but he doesn`t need to experiment on that part. Maybe Nezuko was the only one to remain alive but wasn`t strong enough for him so he left her. After he has seen Tanjiro, he got to recognize that kid is really weak so he isn`t worth much of attention. And he probably thought that after his experiments on Tanjiro`s family he won`t got much of a use from his family

Regarding Muzan's attack on the Kamados, he was looking for descendents of Sun Breathing to eliminate them and found them, he killed them by injecting his blood one by one and only Nezuko transformed. The second conection is the fact that Kie Kamado ( Tanjiro's Mother ) was aware of the location where Blue Spider Lilys bloomed, however Muzan did not know of that information, so it is very likely that the first option is the reason why he did it, it is also explained he has done that same thing multiple times throught the Kamado bloodline, often sending Kokushibou instead to eliminate them.

I think Muzan went to the Kamado's, because he heard there's practice of this fire god dance, which sounded way too similar to sun breathing, so he went in there to make sure. He probably just injected Nezuko with his blood, cause having a relative of a sun breather on your side is never bad. Maybe he didn't have time to turn everyone. Edit: I just remembered. That is something you yourself stated in your " Five ways Muzan could have won" video. My point was that they didn't all get turned to dust, because he didn't inject them all with his blood. Considering that Nezuko started tweaking after Tanjiro was getting her to a doctor, Muzan probably arived very early in the morning while it's dark, moonwalked all over them and was gonna demonize them, however a combination of a Hashira coming and the sun rising made him get out of there.

My observation on the matter, is besides plot armor. It was his plan not to kill them himself, but to try an add one of them to his ranks. He is not necessarily afraid of Tanjiro, but find him a big pain in the ass, or a annoying cancer cell that is hard to get rid of. He has dedicated most of his existence to find this one flower that he actively looks for it himself and made the other demons to get the demon slayers of his back. So he can search for it without being bothered. The dude is not an idiot, but plans his actions very thoroughly. Like creating a demon in front of Tanjiro as a distraction.

My "head canon" is that he was looking for the flower. Ran into the family, thought they might have some connection to the man that nearly killed him (The same way he saw the earings...this is most certainly the WEAKEST part of this little head canon..) and tried to turn the people around him... But not all of them... I don't actually think he went out of his way to give every single one of Tanjiro's family members his blood. I think some of tried to fight him, and he simply killed them, but then thought he might as well attempt to turn a few of them maybe out of pity, but more likely than not he just kinda found them a tiny bit interesting. Before he could probably do it though he got scared since it was getting late, and ran off before he could see the end of his experiment. He might have actually returned later, but since the bodies were gone he just kinda shrugged and went on his way. I mean the most likely reason is that the author simply hadn't thought about all the details about transformation yet, and he kinda wrote himself into a very light plothole...It was literally at the start of the whole concept. It is very likely he had yet to fully form his ideas. He probably had the main aspects ready, but hadn't thought about every aspect of the show just yet.

Ok so you are missing One big detail here 6:24 and thats very simply that the mask broke.. On Impact, so if he didnt have the mask he would have gotten hurt a lot worse when the blow hit him and then hitting the tree in the distance, not sure if you forgot or just wanted to add in a joke, but to me it made sense.. Also once that mask broke its when his scar changed as you see in the clip hes bleeding in that area and ive always suspected maybe it had something to do with the mask

I noticed muzan ain’t the smartest villain, too. My personal take is that, because of his pride, power, rule through fear, and near immortality, he looks down on others and doesn’t care about what he considers to be small affairs. He doesn’t really try to grow or learn outside of his ambitions, so he stayed stupid and that caught up to him at the end of the story. Idk if that’s what the author intended, but Muzan’s stupidity never bothered me because of that.

As we know from daki and Akaza, high level demons can make also act as place holders for mozon and turn normal people inro demons. It is quite likely mozan sent an upper level demon, based on interactions id assume the 1st, to try his experiment. Mozan would not tell him the whole plan out of fear of betrayal and the 1st told him nothing interesting. Assuming that they all didnt make it, muzan being super surprised that their alive and that the demon is unique and then getting pissed is very telling that he regrets playing it too safe. Which is why his tactics continue to get more aggressive.

But i still cant believe Muzan left Tokyo, killed a random familly but 1 member to turn into a demon, then could’nt know the whereabouts of that demon (when he has some psychic link with all of them, except Tamayo for a good reason). Why not turning the whole family ? How could Muzan leave normal humans with a chance to react ? (the Kamado were attacked at night so they were all inside, yet Nezuko was lying outside trying to protect her little brother, seemingly trying to escape) Then we learned that upper moons can turn people into demon, why not lower moon or other powerful demons ? And Giyu says that « blood from the demon must have fell in one of Nezuko’s wound, that’s how demons multiply.» I’d rather believe some lowly demon attacked the house, got hit by Tanjiro’s mother in the fight, weak demon blood into Nezuko’s wounds, then Nezuko’s diet prevents the psychic link to create because it was weak because of the weak blood ; rather than the king demon coming there and not doing the killing properly and fully. And in the Giyu short manga we see him a few days later, chasing a demon on a near mountain, maybe the same ?

The tanjiro family didnt disintegrate because tanjiro mother kie used to make blue spider lily tea for them which also explains how nezuko conquered the sun later on. Remember muzan was looking for blue spider lily to make himself immune to sun so if nezuko was drinking it in small amounts with her family from time to time, they all got the benefits of it and they could hold up against the blood given by muzan and due to that nezuko even conquered the sun later on

I have a theory as to what happened with Tanjirou's family, and it has a lot to do with what we know about how Daki, Gyutaro, and Kaigaku became demons. I don't believe that it was Muzan specifically that was there to kill the family, which is also why they didn't deteriorate in the same way. I think it was some other demon, likely a stronger one with a lot of Muzan's blood. The demon killed most of his family and went to eat, but perhaps they noticed Nezuko clinging to life. Whether it's because they were impressed by Nezuko clinging to life so desperately, or by pure accident, their blood got into Nezuko's wounds. Blood with Muzan's blood entangled within it. This would also explain demons in the earlier seasons commenting their surprise that Muzan hadn't killed Nezuko in a similar manner to how we've seen him remotely kill other demons - because he either doesn't know about her transformation, or he's too detatched from her transformation to really care/do anything about it. Some evidence I have for this theory specifically comes from a spin off manga about Giyu. He is sent on a mission shortly after meeting Tanjiro and Nezuko, and Shinobu tags along with him. There, someone comments about a coal family that was killed recently. Based on some of the context clues given to us about Hashira having designated regions (with Tanjiro's home being within Giyu's region), and the overall aesthetics and behaviors of the town, it's not too big of a stretch to assume it could be Tanjiro's family they're referring to - and wouldn't you know it, the town has been ravaged by a demon long enough to be a problem. And in case anyone asks about Tanjiro specifically identifying Muzan's scent, it's safe to say that the mere presence of Muzan's blood is likely to hold his scent as well. But then again, this is all speculation, and admittedly my memories of most of Demon Slayer are kinda fuzzy at this point. So, to sum up my theory- Muzan didn't directly kill Tanjiro's family, but Nezuko was turned into a demon similarly to how Daki, Gyutaro, and Kaigaku were. EDIT: It might sound silly, but just as I hit send, I thought of another thought experiment that could add to this idea. The dilution of Muzan's blood, with Nezuko being made a demon more indirectly, could even be why she ended up having such unique traits from other demons. After all, we see Daki and Gyutaro having certain traits other demons don't have, such as being able to essentially hide within each other, and Daki having a different appearance depending on whether she's at full strength or not. I mean, we even see explicitly in the show that Daki and Nezuko are compared and contrasted with each other - so this could be another layer to it.

I respect your theory but it has two flaws. #1 is Tanjiro picks up Muzan's smell, not some other demon, but him specifically. #2, in chapter 196 (Nezuko's memories) Muzan says the following: "They die from such a small amount of blood? Making a demon that would conquer the Sun is not easy". Which proves that it was Muzan and that he was indeed turning them into demons

I think tanjiros family is more resistant to demon attacks because the mother regularly gave them a soup made from the blue spider Lily. As it grew near their house. Could also be why Muzan was in the area because their family had links to the flower??? Not sure if this is 100% accurate I saw someone explain it.

I see Muzan as possibly being a stubborn ox. Maybe even tunnel vision when he complains about lower rank demons who seem far in comparison to upper ranks and lower ranks seemingly dying all the time. Call them useless for not doing enough and running from the Hashira in fear. Like yeah, but if a Normal demon slayer could beat them with relative ease, imagine getting one tapped by a hashira (ie lower 5th)

Easy solution: Muzan was going to kill all of Tanjiros family because of his connection with Tanjiro's father (see Tanjiro's vs Daki in the scene where Daki has a flashback but it's not her it's Muzan facing off with what looks like Tanjiro's father). He went there to massacre them when he noticed that one was missing, instead of wasting time waiting for him to come back to kill him, he turned the oldest child Nezuko (presumably the one that could do the most damage) into a demon so she would kill Tanjiro when he returned.

So... about Muzan massarcing the Kamados. It's emplain in multiple places throughout the manga. 1: He was looking for and killing off descendants of the Yoriichi and his family. It just so happened that he found Tanjiro family when he did as the inciting incident of the story. Given how remote they were though, and the Muzan has other things going on, that's a good enough reaosn for me why it took so long. 2: He wasn't trying to turn the family into Demons. Nezuko turning into a Demon was an accident, since Muzan didn't even know about her, nor was she 'cursed' like the other Demons we see who can't speak his name without self-destructing. Sure, Nezuko can't speak to begin with, but she didn't receive Tamayo's treatment to 'escape' that effect either. He did just find the Kamados, and went to kell them all on such little information that he didn't even realize that one of them wasn't home that night, otherwise he would have searched for and kill Tanjiro too. Dude didn't even realize that none of the ones he killed had the hanafuda earrings he had PTSD over, as he recognized them immediately when he ran into Tanjiro later. Muzan made several mistakes out of arrogance and pride, but batching the Kamado massarce was just him being sloppy from acting hastefully.
