Mahker M57 powered Project Rodent on the Alive Dyno!

Mahker in Shropshire, is an Alive Tuning dealer and we feel proud to have tuned many of their awesome builds. Very few however, have seen the Alive dyno, and so we was thrilled to hear that Mahker's Project Rodent, a BMW M57 3.0L powered turbo diesel Defender 110, was coming to be dialled in to perfection.
The engine in Rodent is the 209ps/150Kw from an E46 BMW 330d, having been fully rebuilt prior to installation, adorned with a set of 335d injectors, an uprated fuel pump, hybrid turbo and a few other choice upgrades too. With all the supporting modifications, the engine has some incredible potential to make some big numbers, but this Defender gets used for some serious overland adventures in many different continents, and so the priorities for this setup were drivability, reliability and an adequate power output with zero smoke. Having tuned this via the dealer equipment at Mahker over a year ago, we'd got it pretty close, but the owner wanted some alterations so as to make it even better for his needs. Challenge accepted!

Mate, thanks for uploading, great video. I'm going to put you on the spot. Is the M57 the better engine for the Defender than the Td5? What gear ratio is it running in the transfer case? What were the brand of the arches on the green 90?

The air filter on the M57 sits alongside the engine, downstream of the air inlet elbow.
