Mahogany Bay [Carnival Sunrise] March 2022

Carnival Sunrise port stop at Carnival's private beach destination of Mahogany Bay Honduras. This cruise took place during March 2022 as part of Carnival's 50th Birthday called Sailabration.
Private port stop with pier(no tendering). Ride the scenic chairlift to the white sandy beach or walk the paved path. Today we got a deal on a private cabana which was a really nice splurge on a hot day. The cabana included a/c, couches, and a fridge. Outside it had a rinse off as well as a ocean front hammock and day bed.
Mahogany bay also has some really great snorkeling right from the beach so be sure to bring your gear.

Ah, I'm so glad I found this video - I docked at this port just before COVID on a cruise with Marella Cruises, and it's one of my favourite Caribbean ports!

Is there any way at all to just get the clamshell and 2 lounges?? I keep reading that if you buy that package, you have to wait for 2 hours to even get it and you may not even secure them!! What would you recommend?

Yes, you can rent a clamshell with loungers as well. That will not be in the private cabana area but in the public beach area. There are approximately 5 rows of rented clamshells and loungers and are available on a first come, first served basis. If you want the front row, you will need to be off the ship early. You reserve them online or on the ship. As for the cabanas, there is no wait and they only sell the number available. You can get off the ship at your leisure and the cabana is reserved for you. They check ID so that no one else can claim yours.

How much was the the cabana? Does the chair lift cost money?

The chairlift ride was included the cabanas purchase. Otherwise I think it is about $10/person. Definitely nice at the end of the day coming back. The price of the cabana was ~350 I believe. It was purchased about 11 months prior to sailing. From what I have seen this is fairly typical for cabanas offered through Carnival

Did you find lots of shells while snorkeling

No, unfortunately there were very little shells. I don’t know if it was because of the amount of people or the fact that a storm had recently passed

We booked the cabana online through Carnival. It was a little expensive but so worth it. They book up early but we have no regrets in doing it.

I was a little leary when we booked her but we’re pleasantly surprised. They did a super job on the refurbishment and many of the public areas remind me of the Vista class. One thing that was lacking was the ability to see out from the pool deck. Due to the tiered pool deck, you couldn’t see out as easily. It wasn’t a game changer, but something that we noticed.

We felt the ship was in great shape in all of the interior spaces but the exterior was showing some age and could use some freshening up. Too that note, Sunrise just went through dry dock this spring April-May so she should be looking fresh including the new hull livery. Of course this is an older ship so it does not have all the new bells and whistles that you might find on a ship such as Mardi Gras but I'm sure you will have a great time.
