Holy smokes. I figure its’s doable to make a drinkable mai tai-style drink with some fashion of vodka in it, and it is what I was expecting, but the fact that you folks stayed as true to the two originals recipes as is generally possible these days and kept out the branded products deserves some kudos.

You missed the orange liquor when listing ingredients at 4:35

Too many people forget about the importance if that ingredient :-/ Like the Margarita, it's fundamental to the drink.

@@CorySchoollandI would counter by saying that I don’t see much of a point in it in the drinks. Tommy’s Margarita is the superior version of the Margarita and doesn’t use Curacoa at all. If you really wanted an Orange flavor one trick I use is to regal shake with an Orange peel in the shaker. I do the same with Mai Tais as I believe the Orgeat should be the more pronounced flavor. In Mai Tais I also use a rich simple syrup that is based on a split between Demerara/Turbinado/ Muscavado sugar infused with Lemon and Orange peel so the Orange flavor you desire is still there

A little clarification... Trader Vic's Mai Tai dates to 1944. Don the Beachcomber claims his Mai Tai Swizzle was created in the '30s, but there's no record of it until the '50s. It's helpful to use the cocktail's full name, Mai Tai Swizzle, when referring to Don's creation. Great vid, though, thanks so much for sharing!
