@8:30 A washing machine was the 2nd best investment I made. It frees up the time of the three adult sisters living in my house. They are all students so need that time for study. Also it saves their hands from the scrub board. Sadly their electric still hasn't been restored so they are back to doing it by hand. Hopefully electric will come back on soon, before classes resume.

When my wife was sick i hired a Filipina housekeeper. She worked for us for a few years and became a part of the family. Such a nice lady i could tell many stories of all the little things she did above and beyond what was required. I will never forget that wonderful lady😊

Great topic Miss Pea. When I was stationed in Philippines the going rate for a house girl was 10 dollars a month. Our house girl became part of our family and we stayed in contact for years after I left. Our girl was a young filipina without much education or future. We treated her very well and she treated us good. Usually at the end of the month we would buy her some article of trailer made clothes. On weekends I would give her money for the movie and a treat afterwards. She was a live in and I never had to worry about theft or dishonesty from her. I know that’s not always the case. We really missed that when we came back to the states. My one word of advice is guys don’t boink your house girl. It’s always trouble.

"Don't boink your house girl"! 😂 Never employ one that will tempt you. While a housemaid with benefits sounds great on the face of it it will blowup in your face at some point! Many Filipino girlfriends won't let you have a young housemaid they will insist you employ an older one (often a relative (Tiya))

A note of caution: try to avoid hiring a housekeeper from your sweetheart's close family. That can introduce a set of problems that you may not want to deal with. One is that she doesn't quite work out and you want to replace her, leading to conflict with your sweetheart over a family member losing a source of income and loss of hiya. The other is it can sometimes generate a feeling of excessive privilege, with the housekeeper assuming she can get away with behavior just because she is "family". Another is that, because it's her family member, your girlfriend can automatically take the housekeeper's side in any disagreement with you and suddenly it becomes two against one in your home. I'm not saying it never works, because that same exact situation works fine for us. But we've had decades to deal with the issues also.

That's one of the reasons why I would never hire my own family for any job that I had available when I was a business owner. I understand other people may have a different opinion on that issue, but that was the way I always felt most comfortable.

My father was stationed at Subic Bay for three years when I was a child. I remember the maid taking care me and with kindness. I was treated by her as her child. She would take me shopping with her out in the city, it was a great learning experience. Later in my life, I was in the Navy and when our sub had up keep there, I would live in the town and always made sure a maid was included. She took care of everything I would just give her money and everything was done. She even would try to find me a wife, a good girl as she would say. I got spoiled by this kind of life, when I worked in the Philippines after the Navy, I was there for a few years, and of course I had a maid. I got lucky, she was young and beautiful, I couldn't resist her charm and care. So now my maid is my wife.

Same old song and Dance. "Wail, I was stationed at Subic Bay or Clark AFB in the sixties,....." Not relevant information at all. It's completely different than today. Stow your memories. It takes an income of 150-200K a year plus 4-6M in assets in JP Morgan. You don't need to transfer the money, but you can get what you need by wire.

I remember being deployed to the Philippines as a young sailor and meeting a guy who had been stationed there for some time. He lived off base and had a maid (later I found out she took care of more than his household needs as well). He invited me over one day and I saw how he treated her (poorly). Needless to say I didn't hang around him after that. Remember: Treat others as you would want to be treated. Definitely one of my favorite videos of yours, Miss Pea. Although I have been retired in Central America rather than the Philippines for a long time, the scope and excellence of your advice applies perfectly here. It might take several tries before you find a suitable housekeeper, but it can be well worth the time and effort. Our housekeeper has actually saved us money and made retirement much, much more pleasant. My approach is to treat her with the same degree of respect and loyalty she displays in her job. Our housekeeper has been with us for over ten years, and she continues to be a blessing. It might be a good idea to listen to this video two or more times. You will not find better and more complete advice than that given by Filipina Pea in this video.

I had a filipina nanny growing up. My mom gave her full rule over me and she raised me like a local. Which is one of the reason's why I can adapt to situations here and understand the mannerisms a lot along with speaking the language, not well but getting better. Reminds me of “in the day” when you could kick the crap out of somebody if they deserved it. An acquaintance of mine had a Japanese wife and of course was somewhat proficient in the language. Long story, short; he thought someone said something about his wife while they were speaking Japanese, so he confronted them. They weren’t speaking about her, he misinterpreted, got just about everything in him kicked out by a dude about 1/2 a foot shorter than him. Big fun for me cause I knew the idiot was, well…..an idiot. I keep my limited Spanish to myself.

Filipina maids are a great benefit to a foreigner. A good maid is worth her weight in gold. Sometimes she can help you avoid scams. These are things that a good girlfriend or wife can do. Let her do the food buying. I have seen a good woman haggle with vender till he gave up exasperated. Also minus a few hairs from stress. It is hard to choose a good maid, sometimes it is a learning process to find a good maid. In some ways hiring a maid is like looking for a wife. In the end a good maid can save you not only money but also time.

We were recommended a single mom who was a masseuse , a very good one too . She now helps us around the house also to earn a bit extra money . She is a really hard worker and we appreciate having her around . Once you have the trust in each other , it's a real great working relationship . I am still stuck in The UK , but I still communicate with her , normally trying to sort out her love life , haha !

A guy did a video of his budget in the Philippines. He had a wife/girlfriend living with him and she brought her kid and mother, too. He liked it. He said he gave his mother-in-law some small amount like you said, because she did everything to keep the house and run things. If you have to give your girlfriend/wife money so she can support her family, this sounds like a good idea if everyone can be peaceful.

If this type of situation works for you then go for it. There are quite a few guys who have one of their wife/gf family members either living with them or coming over to do the housekeeper chores. It works great for many people. If you can make that work then good on you.

Getting things ready to retire to the Philippines and part of my planned budget was for a maid/housekeeper. I've had one when before and they make life so much easier and well worth their salary. The trick is to keep the line between professional and personal, so like others have mentioned, it's highly recommended you don't mix the two. If you want a personal relationship, then you're better off just looking for a wife. As I'm going to be moving over as a single person myself, the one issue I'd decided was not to have a 'live-in', as it may cause more problems than it's worth. That said, finding and keeping a good maid/housekeeper should be carefully decided upon. If you have some friends who could recommend candidates, still check them out. If possible, see if you could talk with their past employers and get a good background on them. The only problem is if you have to let one go, then it could be a bit of drama. Just make sure you don't get excited and/or angry, and try to have someone else around as a witness - just to be safe. Being accused without a witness could land you into a world of hurt and trouble.

As a man who moved to The Philippines in 2018, I found this particular article to be one of your very best. Yes, I have personally witnessed abuse of domestic help in The Philippines. These maids, as indicated in the article, can be worth their weight in gold and many/maybe most are wonderful people! You lightly touched on maids being abused in foreign countries. This has been my crusade to expose horrific treatment of some/likely many OFWs! The Arab countries are the worst but, not the only brutal countries! i.e.- Rape and physical abuse is not prosecuted in Saudi Arabia and in many other countries. Many workers are too embarrassed to report these atrocities! All of these workers have their passports confiscated and held upon arrival. The workers are entrapped slaves! Why does The Philippine government allow this? These workers are sending money back home, which accounts for a whopping 10% of the entire country's economy. (10% 0f The GDP!)

How I understand it the Philippine Government is actually looking into some of the OFW Jobs and taking some action where there is some history of abuse and warning/stopping OFW from actually leaving, also giving them some handy tips.. I remember seeing this about a month ago, Some advice... NEVER hand over their passport, only a copy if required for validation for employment... if they insist, I would insist... not to work for them... It's Fair.. we don't hand over our passports, unless you have been very bad and it's to the police etc... just carry copies to show them when required on either on paper or phone when required... remember.. your passport is your lifeline to get back home if required.

Another great topic, pea. When I was stationed at subic bay in the late 70's, I got into an argument with my superiors about how little they were paying the locals, taking advantage of them, slavery, the whole nine yards.. It got very heated. But I had a good commander. Rather than punish me, he sat me down and explained the economics and culture and the negative impacts that suddenly having lots of money would cause because he had seen it happen before. And while he actually agreed that we didn't pay much, in our assessment, for the locals they were being paid very adequately and even had weekend off and had health and other benefits as well. I had to think on this a while and go out into the towns and villages nearby and observe life before I understood. It is not an overstatement to tell people they should only pay the current going rate. It is actually the kindest thing you can do. As you said by example, a woman might think she has enough money, then quit her job only to discover a month or two later it was a big mistake. Many people don't know how to handle larger sums of money even in my country, let alone in yours. Giving them slow and moderate pay raises over time allows them to adjust to having a little more money as time goes on. Personally, because I am one of those generous people, struggle with this even though I know the consequences. But it is the best way. And if you find a good one, she will be like family and stay with you for years as many have pointed out here. Thanks for bringing this up. But I agree that a good follow up would be how to let someone go if you find the need to do that. Carry on, good pea.

@@TheFilipinaPea it's sad and unfortunate but true. Even in the US, these simple things aren't taught in school. Unless you are in a high priced preparatory school, you have no hope to learn these basic skills until it's too late. If you are lucky in my country your parents will make sure you learn. But that's uncommon here. The best we can do in your country is to help people learn little by little and hopefully affect the way they think about these things in a positive way. It's not the most desirable way, but we can help, as you do in your way, the few people we can. Touch lives one at a time and hopefully things will change over time. If we all do that, the results would be visible.

The a few problems I had at first with my helper was leaving food out . I would warn her about it and if it would continue I would just throw the food in the trash because I am not going to eat food that has been left out a couple of hours that will make me sick. Over cooking meat and fish where there was no flavor left was another one . And sometimes I sent her to the grocery store and she didnt come home with certain items because she said they were too expensive . I told her it wasnt her money or her decision to make if something cost too much. Everything is great now after almost 3 years of her learning how I like things

Great post! I have a house and a fair amount of property in Philippines in Quezon Province. I have employed a housekeeper for many many years. She is a local from the Barangay and, I must say, I never considered her a maid - she is family to me and that is how I treat her and her family, husband and children. I trust her completely and consider her like my daughter (she is half my age). I hope she never leaves.

My mother-in-law has several younger family members that take care of her and the home 24/7. That is one of the aspects we are really looking forward to when we can begin to spend four to five months a year there during the winters. There are many of the nearby under-12 family members who pass through the house daily, and they already consider my wife and I their Lola & 'Cano Lolo.

The one thing you forgot to mention, is to avoid hiring a Facebook addict. Most of my Pinay friends are housekeepers, and they are chatting with me all day on FB, instead of working, lol. I think rules about house guests are very important, because Westerners are more private, and less trusting of strangers. Filipino culture is very open, social, etc ... they often don't vet people, so the person they invite over could be a thief, rude, or something like that. I do my own laundry, if I hired a housekeeper I would not need her to do too much work. I think "translation" would be very helpful. For me someone trustworthy would be very important, and someone who could understand my culture, without being offended by it. I have found that many Pinay's have trouble understanding other cultures have different traditions. Based on my Pinay friends, I could see it would be a positive experience with some, but with others it would be difficult.

I would even pay them when I am in another country maybe 75 to 80% of the time. Water the plants, drive the car once a week, take care of my mail or guests. Their salary is nothing even if u pay double. Much cheaper than a wife.

I remember when my sister and I were kids my Lola had 2 maids where we live in Bicol. That lifestyle was amazing. Then my folks wanted us to live with them in the US. My sister and I thought my folks had maids in there house but no. My folks introduced us to the word chores took my sister and I awhile to assimilate into the American culture. When I was in the Philippines. I was going to a local church. And found lady’s there. Also, found working Students too. Paid between P4k-P5k a mth ( $95-$100). With free room and board..I had asked the Bishop/Pastor/Minister for recommendations. It also helps having a local to keep u safe when u are out and also to answer the door for you,etc.. One of the things I did there was help foreigners understand the do’s and don’t. The local government agency I was with would refer me to these Foreigners. Pea gives a lot of good information here..

Just as any employer respectable employer, I would have a 30, 60, 90 day rule for performance review. Also, I’d definitely give two days off. You need the downtime for your own mental wellbeing and frankly if you have a good maid, you want to retain that. My wife’s aunt in Ortigas has had the same live in housekeeper for over 20 years. Shes no longer considered a maid, she’s considered family.

A very fascinating talk. And helpful. Not just for the Philippines. My son mentioned that when he was in China, having a maid come around (just a couple of hours) was very cheap and necessary to clean up the place, the dirty dishes, etc. However, here in the States, it is limited to the wealthy, as the middle class can't afford a maid. In those old American TV shows, people had more maids. No more. But nothing prevents one from hiring a maid for a couple of hours. It doesn't have to be every day. Of course, in the "old" days, a "housewife" would do those things and more. These days, a female in America doesn't even know how to cook! Forget about anything else. LOL. A fascinating, and potentially dangerous, subject.

Thanks for the explanation on the Phillipina Maid. Here in the West, I have a couple of older friends that have what is called "LIVE INS" They usually have a large home where you can separate yourself from the main living area. This way he offers a Woman to live in his house (many times with young children) food and shelter for free. He doesn't pay her like an employee. She can still work on her own but doesn't have to worry about paying rent or buying groceries. She basically lives her own life as well as you do. They often hang with each other from time to time but neither are obligated to one another. There is an understanding between them that there is no problem having a Booty Call.

As a Blackman with grandparents raised in the South, I have much respect for the occupation of housekeeper or domestic work. I recently learned that my Great Aunt was a domestic for Elvis Presley, though she never talked about it. This video has made me determined to seek and obtain services of a Filipina Maid. Treat your employee as part of your family. That's how you win their loyalty. I have a couple who looks after my mom's house. They took care of the house & garden unsupervised. We trust them to make their own decisions when it comes to managing the house. We never treated them as maid & gardener because we also helped them do the work when we are in the Philippines. When we eat, our employees eat with us as family. We share stories & jokes with each other. They are free to bring their family to the house. We prefer it that way. We don't want the house to be empty. It's creepy staying in a huge house with only two people living in it. My siblings & I feel so lucky that we met this couple & their children.

I like this presentation, It feels like I'm sitting across from you and having a chat! Here in Central America, Things with maids/housekeepers are quite similar! Sometimes it is necessary to train your maid to clean to your standards, and once she knows what is expected from her, it is of great value! Sometimes it is easier to find a person with no experience so she doesn't have to "unlearn" bad habits! There is an important distinction between paying using the government's labor system and paying "under the table"! I have also seen the downside of generosity - it can definitely backfire! I'm glad to hear I've made your day! :)

I have 2 Filiinas working for me remote, they work 5 days a week and during their day time. At first they did discuss getting a better salary and I let them know that it depends on several factors, such has their punctuality, work performance, quality of work an delivering work on a timely fashion, it also depends on business needs. Eventually I will give them a raise but I won't discuss it until the mentioned factors are met.

The more that you describe the benefits and the like, the more that it sounds like the working conditions (and the pay scheme) that you get in Mexico, especially the 13th month pay. In general, most employers pay the 13th month a minimum of 2-3 weeks prior to Christmas.

@@TheFilipinaPea You mentioned a Christmas bonus, I was going to mention that too. You could do it based on performance and have a monthly review where you talk with your maid about her performance. If she does good work every month she gets top rating, have a list like you mentioned and rate each task a percentage of 100 percent. So then her bonus is up to her. Some tasks rated higher percentage than others. Like being their on time and staying all work day for 30 days might be worth 10 percent, but each day she misses is worth so much of that, since it's the most important. If they need to do something personal it won't be counted against them but must be agreed on ahead of time. I would provide food, room and board, and a phone. A condition of the phone is, they have to answer if I call, but I wouldn't call normally unless something important came up. There is different kinds of bonuses. Everything doesn't have to be monetized. Lets say they score over 90 percent in a given month, then maybe that changes a 2 day weekend into a 3 day weekend and that's a paid extra day off. They can pick that day, but it has to be agreed upon. There are 52 weeks in a year. Maybe if they do great for 6 months, you turn a weekend into a week off and they can use it however they want. I believe if it's a good job and they are happy, they won't need to steal and will not think they are rich and leave, because they will know it's hard to find an employer like that again.

Lovely video Ms Pea. Live in domestic help has been a pretty crazy adventure for the past ten years. Especially since my own lovely Filipina wife is a country girl from very humble beginnings and her only experience with upper middle class living was OFW employment. And, once our house was built and our two kids were big enough to run around I could tell that she was having a difficult time dealing with the new standard of living I brought with me. So when she starts to get depressed about it, I've often begged her to 'for heaven's sake just Hire somebody & I don't care how much it costs" So sometimes she does. But some of her attempts to hire help have been pretty scary. Like the time she hired a 16 year old from up in the mountainside who's mother came down every week to collect her pay! Or the Fourteen year old with no bra & bubble butt that couldn't be trusted around any loose cash or change much-less the bottles of toiletries & ointments ect.... OMG what could my lovely Asawa possibly have been thinking!! I could've gotten arrested or something! Especially when the last one mooched (oops! Borrowed) so much 'Advance' that she was actually working as an indentured servant for 'Free' for over Nine Weeks,,,, Maybe it's my fault for overestimating my Asawa's sophistication. After all,, she's just a High School grad from humble Nipa beginnings, with sandpaper hands from a life of doing what I'm trying to get her to hire Somebody Else to do so she wont Have to any more.

I'm from Brazil. Middle class up we're used having maids. I would say that twice a week is the new norm. It makes life much better. With time they become family really. Major advantages are: having more free time if you work hard as I do, help you some shopping, cleaner homes / clothes and way better and healthier food. Plus it's someone to talk, learn from and keep in touch with reality. My kids nanny is still working with us after 25 years.

The one helper I saw looked like she was 12 . She would just sit in kitchen waiting for the lady of the house to ask her to do something. But who are we to question it . Great video pea :)

There are a lot of things that look weird from a Western perspective. When I worked in Mexico, every supermarket had a group of boys aged 10-15 who wore a white shirt and tie at the checkout counter. When your order was rung up, they would bag your order and carry it out to your car. It was uncomfortable at first having a kid carry my groceries when I could have done it by myself. However, he needed the pesos more than I did.

I saw a documentary a few years ago about the scores of Filipinas who go overseas to be maids in different countries. Some of these women are subjected to horrible abuses. It can be a really terrible situation when they're far from home and perhaps don't have the legal rights in some countries that they would in others. We can only hope that there is an agency or organisation that can monitor these women and make sure they're not being mistreated.

It seems that the first thing those employers always do is take the passport. My advice is that when choosing a person to be your maid try to find a lady with children and isn’t a “pretty young girl”. Single moms need the income more than anyone and are usually more dependable. Also, if you can get references from other expats definitely do. Don’t get references from other Filipinos because they will almost always give rave reviews lol And last but not least older ladies are a very good choice because they probably have experience being a maid, aren’t going to miss work because of boyfriends, and aren’t as tempting in ways you should avoid lol (boinking)

Wow, what an incredibly useful video - thank you so much! I thought the only way I could live in the Philippines would be to find a girlfriend to help me, with all the potential emotional issues that might bring! I hadn't even considered employing a housekeeper because in the UK only rich people can afford that. One thing that appeals to me is the sheer diversity of jobs they can do, particularly standing in line to pay bills (I find it hard to believe that you can't pay utility bills online). Another is that having her around will be great company - it would be great if she could play games with me, like chess. Being able to translate would be great - though I suspect many Filipinas willing to be maids would have very poor English? I am imagining that future cat fight between housekeeper and girlfriend! The advice about being firm with the maid, e.g. about time keeping, relatives stopping by unannounced and putting leftovers away is really helpful. I am a really trusting sort of person so the advice about possible theft is well received. Do people normally pay monthly or weekly? You look so sexy in that maid outfit!! It's great that you're improving your technique, earlier videos were very jerky because of editing, but I love your current smooth self confident style. What's the tax situation about hiring a Filipina, and does the employer have to contribute towards a pension? Finally, I promise not to ask you to stand in line after we get married! :)

There’s a small contribution for her social security, etc, but she can make the payments for you (just keep the receipts to show you paid). It only amounts to about 800 pesos per month

And for me as a german I could not imagine that she has to work 7 days a week without a day off and sometimes from early in the morning to late in the evening. She often tells me that she is sick of her work and seems like a burned out worker. But she has to work because she is supplying her poor family with the money. Stand in line to pay a bill! To a Westerner, that's pretty funny. I have found that my remote employees in the Phils (generally speaking) are very conscientious and honest. One thing Pea didn't mention is to NEVER be late on payments. Another thing is that I pay my employees $20 on their and their children's birthdays. Goodwill and respect go a long long way.

In that one, you interviewed a young woman who was being paid $80 a month for 18 hour days with one day off per week. I've occasionally thought of her since and wonder how she's doing and what's happened to her. If you could revisit her and some of the others in that episode I'd appreciate it. I had the same housekeeper for 7 years in Vietnam, then she moved to Thailand with us for 4 more years. She made our living so easy. Every thing Pea said - she ran the house and took good care of us. Oh yeah, she even helped us find houses when we moved to a new city - priceless. I can't recommend enough getting a good housekeeper. Finding a good maid is the highest priority, top of my list, #1 and any other way I can express how important it will be when I come to the Philippines.

I kinda understand the other side of that situation. Because my experience dating a Filipina happened for a couple years in my early 20's when I was in the Navy in Japan. My girlfriend was a house helper there. So I know what they go through. I figure when I retire I'll probably go to the Philippines and hire a house helper and a driver. I'll give them Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays off and I'll pay them well. Because I'm 43 years old now, but I really won't feel right dating a Filipina when I'm in my 60's. By the way, your legs look really good in this video Pea.

Well, a domestic helper as she describes would have been a "housegirl" back in my time in the PI. What she says is absolutely true. Simply indispensible. For a foreigner or foreigner family especially true.

Most Filipinas in Spain are housekeepers, that includes my wife as well due to her difficulty to manage the Spanish language. I am proud to tell you that i defended her rights face to face with her lady boss which is in fact my boss as well. So, i asked my boss if she new someone who needed a housekeeper and at same time teaching English to their kids: She said why English? I said because my wife is Filipina and i only speak in English with her: She said Wow! I have been looking for a Filipina for me since a long time and never found one! Then She said: My house keeper just got married and i guess she is going to leave me alone: So it happened not long after and she asked me for an interview with my wife! And i took her there shortly after! All fine till the time she told my wife: Well, you know we cannot pay those salaries of Madrid! Then i said: What? Well you know the social security is so expensive and blablabla: So i said: Look it¡s up to you, i am not begging you for a job for her, but she will only work for you if you pay her respecting the law and only in that condition, plus that includes 5 days working per wee, 2 days off and 14 salaries per year meaning that, paid holidays, plus extra holiday salary pay and Christas extra month pay: If you respect that, she will work for you, but if not, she will work somewhere else! And after sweating quite a lot she said ok, deal!!! I said ok, you can pay her more but never less that that!!! Now her little daughter is already telling my wife that she is the one speaking better English at her class, reason enough for her father and mother to feel proud of them.

Our maid is invaluable. A good approach- find a good honest maid, treat her right and a big thing- give her a route to a better life. Food? Food that she is allowed to eat? Our maid eats what we eat. If we had steak- our maid is eating steak. She was surprised at that, but it is amazing to me that someone would do anything else.

@@TheFilipinaPea Yes, our maid have said that always. It is a way to reinforce social class and to save a few pesos. We always go against the tide with this one. A maid will eat the same food as we will, will get her teeth fixed as needed and if she has interest in going back to school, we will help her. "The rich and the poor have this in common: the Lord is the maker of them all." .

In the early 80's the pay for maids was P100 monthly in my provincial San Pablo City home. I felt kind of weird when she had the house full of friends and there really wasn't much for her to do so I fired her after one day but paid her P50 which seemed to make her happy.

Great to know that this can be done in the Philippines. I've spent my life in Africa and we grew up with housekeepers. And since I'm seriously wanting to move to the Philippines this will be a necessity. I cant imagine cleaning my own place. Where would I get the time? I'm a very busy person in business and try to pack very hour of my day with things that achieve something. I pay very well. Here in South Africa i pay cleaners 3-4 times the going rate. I value these people. Most people in SA just pay minimum wage. They think "what's the market value?". I think "what does a human being need?" A labourer is worthy of his hire.

The standing in line, the power shortages, the horrible infrastructure and the general disfunction is actually what made me leave the Philippines for Vietnam a couple years ago. It was with a heavy heart, because the Filipina people are awesome and there are numerous beautiful places to visit (although few westernesr seem to live even close to a beautiful beach for some reason)...but Vietnam is light-years ahead in almost every which way, with zero power-outages (once a year maybe, we get a text message saying there will be maintenance at such and such a date, from say 9am-3pm which makes it easy to plan around it). Also street-cleaners come around every morning like clockwork, and garbage is removed every evening via modern refuse trucks, I was literally dumbfounded when first I saw it. Then there's the fantastic infrastructure, as well as being able to pay everything online and shopping is easy as in n' out with absolutely everything available to you. Shop keepers are friendly and helpful, you pick what you need, and go pay, and you're then given a polite bow when you pay, (which also can be done with a credit card in most places), and then they often go to the door and open it for you at which point you get yet another respectful bow of the head...(and no I'm not that old, it's just the way it is)...:):):) it's practically easier and more enjoyable than in the US, and no security check in or out, only security outside for parking. You can buy anything from the big local retailers like consumer electronics to cookware to food items etc, online, and have it delivered within 30 minutes for like $1, it's truly amazing, plus of course Lazada, Shopee, Tiki.com etc...Hopefully the Phillippines will figure out how to run things efficiently in the near future, because it truly has a lot going for it, but as it is it really takes patience and understanding to live there, and blinders to overlook the garbage everywhere...Maybe someday, maybe. Great info Pea! The Philippines is one of my top three retirement options. I plan on spending 6-12 months in the Philippines on a trial basis and will definitely need a house keeper. Will house keepers accept a 6-12 month contract? This video along with the video on what to do when you land at the airport have helped me the most...✨
