DEANO TEST FLEW LEES YT / ESM 60cc F4U CORSAIR DOWN THE PATCH TODAY POWERED BY THE AWESOME SOUNDING 3 CYLINDER 84cc SAITO PETROL / GAS ENGINE,
SHE HAS YT MAIN RETRACTS WITH ROBART POWDER COATED MAIN WHEELS,
HANGAR 9 TAIL RETRACT,
HANGAR 9 CANOPY AND COCKPIT KIT,
USES A KELEO COLLECTOR RING EXHAUST,
HI-TECH SERVOS AND IGYRO 3E,
LEE HAD SENSIBLY PREVIOUSLY RUN IN THE SAITO ON THE GROUND SO COME THE MAIDEN SHE WAS RUNNING SWEET AS A PEACH WITH A LOVELY TICK OVER AND CLEAN PICK UP !
UNFORTUNATELY THE RETRACTS DECIDED NOT TO PLAY BALL TODAY SO DEANO DID A STALL TEST FIRST (WHICH WAS NON EXISTENT ON FULL FLAP AND UP ELEVATOR UNTIL BELOW WALKING SPEED) THEN BROUGHT HER IN FOR A LOVELY WHEELS AND FLAPS UP LANDING ON THE GRASS !
When we tested the undercarriage on the floor in the video they struggled to go up but that wasn't a problem because I knew the wind/ pressure would assist them going up !
But there was no problem when the gear came down as you can see in the video, I was happy with the U/C because they came down and locked with no problem !
The problem was the forward speed / wind was too much to let them come down and lock ! Lee had restricted the air flow with inline air restrictors designed to reduce air pressure in the line (he forgot to tell us that or we would have removed them before the flight)so they look scale going up and down slowly in flight but there wasn't enough pressure in the air tank to allow them to lock down in flight against the on coming air hitting the undercarrige doors !
I guess we all live and learn ;)

She lived for another flight, but let me tell you, the weathering you have achieved is really really spot on, love to see big scales with the level of weathering more common on plastic model builders. This way she looks fantastic in the air but truly real on the ground. Good job guys.

Deano is one heck of a pilot. I just love the sound of the 3 cylinder engine. the weathering and wear on the paint job is beautiful. I kept looking for a Zero to pop up and see one Hell of a dogfight ensue! lol. love your videos, keep up the brilliant work.

@@tbobborap1 I’m well aware. I switched to electric retracts about 5 yrs ago, and had zero issues with them. They also look more scale as they operate. Everything has its issues. I commended the beautiful aircraft, and brilliant flying. I like your channel

Yeah, the weathering I would say is one of the best I have seen in YT, for a moment I thought it was a real plane, and the sound is pure engine music.

Very cool plane and a very good sounding engine! it's not often that I see a Corsair with a 2 blade prop but it's probably a good thing that this Corsair didn't have a 3 blade prop. Likely would have broken a blade on that landing. Deano did a great job of showcasing this plane and he did an even better job of getting the plane down with only grass stains, lol. Very very cool!!!

Hi john Thanks for your comment The corsair looked fantastic and flew well as well ! Long story short lee fitted a restricter to the air to make them more scale ! On the ground they were fine and they came down perfectly but the air pressure when flying was too much for the retracts to come down and lock because of the restricted air ! We all live and learn lol Deano

Thanks Dave Long story short Lee fitted a restricter to the air valve and on the ground it was fine but when flying there wasn't enough air pressure to fully lock the U/C ! Deano

Thanks Andy I wanted to take up full size when I was younger but was way to much money for us to afford :( I have had several flying lessons/ pleasure flights when I was 11 I was lucky enough to take off, fly and land for the first time with the co pilot beside me watching ! Was scary lol but I enjoyed it Deano

So never ever launch an aircraft, rc or otherwise, until everything is working up to spec. The operator is lucky that this wasn't a loss, skill or not, experience teaches caution!

yes, I did, and I watched the video carefully. At first I thought, they won't fly that plane until they fix this landing gear problem. . and wasn't surprised when it wouldn't fully extend on landing. The force of air pushing on it, and trying to force it down, all could have been avoided by making sure the gear worked properly to begin with.

tbobborap1 Would a fairly steep dive and hard pull up pull em down enough to lock!?? New an old guy at the VFW who flew these and the wildcat during WWII, he said they would unlock the gear and either dive and pull up or do a hard turn and the gear was "gravitied" out! The wildcat had a hand crank and it would knock the crap out of your elbow if it got in the way! Would that "procedure"work on this large scale bird?
