So there is no conclusion! It could just as easily have been the old boy who, unusually drunk, had gone looking for the scoundrel who got his daughter, and missed him sleeping in a chair..so done in his wife instead.then sobered up and committed suicide. Introducing a new suspect at the very end was a bit of a cheat.

These short-form episodes are condensed from the full 3hr story, with all of the background one expects from Simenon. They should not be judged in the same context.

Maigrets full length stories were usually half hour stories such as this padded out to 3 hour length by plodding dialogue and pointless pages where nothing actually happened !! Simenon was the " master" of that technique. As for his writing style....?? Paint drying would be more interesting.!!

Thank goodness !! I thought I was the only one ! If you think these are bad try listening to the full Audio Book 3 1/2 hour version !!I I lost the Will to Live after the first 40minutes....

@@2msvalkyrie529the longer these wonderful stories are, the better!!! Some Agatha Christie stories are 6 and 7 hours. Sheer heaven. Not all of us can stand shorts.
