What a beautiful axe. I agree, not the ideal splitting profile but would be great as a camping, survival, kindling, farm, limbing and as you demonstrated, shingling axe. What a generous gift and the workmanship is second to none.

Love that axe. A few years ago I started restoring old Swedish axes before they started selling for silly money. Most of them were the 4 1/2 lb utility axe good for chopping can split. And I've restored a few hatchets as well. I don't have a workshop or any fancy power tools, just me, sandpaper and elbow grease. I did invest in a Tormek T4 which really took the sharpening of the axes to a new level. Unfortunately I'm banned from buying any new or old axes by my other half because of the money I was spending. 😭

Hi Buckin, I was wondering where someone could pick up some nice old style cedar shingles. In the next few years here, me and some of my fellow volunteers are going to be helping out with the restoration of an old 1870s coal mining house. No one’s been able to find the right shingles, especially for here domestically in the US. We’re up in the Seattle area, so I figure the best person to try and ask would be a fellow pacific northwesterner who knows a thing or two about wood. Great channel, here’s hoping people take your knowledge and do great things with it!

That first "unboxing" axe looked like it could be great for carpentry work. Like notching logs when making Scandinavian type log cabins etc. Like it's having a blade profile that's good to make chops/cuts with, where you want to chop/shave away a precise amount of wood off a log or beam. Like you could make more even chops with it than the 2nd axe.

That is a gorgeous chopper . I think Liam should add a 4-4.5 splitting axe to his website . Been looking for a really good splitter for a long time woodman buddy, though I do have my heart set on a BBR wood bullet as first pick . He used to be a line cutter out west on the pipeline for a lot of years .. name is Conrad Corville . People have said he and his brothers were well known out there .. not sure if you ever heard of him .. it can be a small world sometimes . He would love a wood bullet ... he is still doing firewood and falling climbing splitting in his seventies to heat and make money .

That really is a sweet axe! A perfect hollow, almost as if it were ground to that shape. Fit to the handle so beautifully! I bet that edge is shaving sharp! I haven't seen the rest of the video yet, but I'd guess we'll see chips fly the size of stove lids, and twice as thick.

The handle is weak, doesn't match the head and just doesn't look right. A full on arm and shoulder blow that doesn't split you won't get it out without the handle letting go. Leverage is what it takes - and that means lifting from the grip. That handle would not take it - and every axe will encounter a stubborn unseen knot at some stage. I wrote this before the end of the video and I know Billy was taking it easy. Nobody chops down trees with an axe - anybody wanting an axe uses it to split. Having said that - the head is fantastic and a testament to craftsmanship. Just the handle needs work.

Well, you know where that comes from... Being respectful and kind... many times I've found myself saying that mostly when working in close proximity to a home owner or friends... maybe bumping into them or shining a light in their eyes for a second... but it's not about me it's about Buckin, he's so aware of the friends watching that he excuses himself if the camera gets bumped... absolutely hilarious at times...✅👍💚🌲

Facebook and his website. But good luck getting your hands on anything he makes... he sells out in seconds and anyone that gets an axe from him never wants to sell them. And if they do, they will charge thousands of dollars. Liams axes are very expensive and hard to get.. pre orders run out within seconds of them dropping on his website. Ive been trying to get one for over a year and still havent had any luck.

Hay Buckin I’d like to respond to Nate if you don’t mind Nate stihl used three different motors in the 028 some of the early ones came with a 42mm piston the wood boss came with a 44mm and the super came with a domed 46mm piston. Nice older saw I own a wood boss and a super myself. Enjoy
