Yes. Her English is fine, if she can't think of the right English word she can describe it. They talk about what fits best and her English improves. I speak 2 languages and I learnt them at the same time, so I do get them mixed up. Sometimes word order is a mess, sometimes the word in one language appears in my mind but not the other. It's not just immigrants that have trouble, a lot of multilinguals do. He's just so unhelpful and not understanding.

You realize, it's not a strictly American thing. Most people feel this way about native speakers of other languages. Or, they think they're too stupid to learn the local language. I experienced this attitude a lot while living in China, though I do agree that if you're going to live in a foreign country where they speak a different language, you should try to learn the local language out of respect and for safety's sake.

My husband is from Egypt and I promise you, if we moved there, I would be expected to learn fluent Arabic (though I am anyway) because it doesn’t make sense for you to move to a whole other country and expect the entire country to make concessions for you. You adapt and assimilate. Now, I believe this guy should absolutely try to connect with his wife’s culture and learn the language because he was the one who chose her for those differences, and he’s being unfair by putting all the communication blame on her, but my point stands regardless.

We're still friends with most of the couples we met, and most are still together. There were no cases of gold-diggers in my group. Most of us were very young at that time. Loads of great points. Don't stereotype american women, and don't stereotype non-American women, but when a woman leaves her country, her family, her friends, her native tongue, everything, in order to spend her life loving you, you need to give her some extra respect and support. I'm super super in favour of international marriage. I married 1. a Japanese man 2. an Irishman. Both eventually ended in divorce but for many years were happy and successful. But when your marriage straddles 2 countries, everything becomes more difficult, not just in terms of language barrier (that's hard enough) or cultural differences (and that's huge) but legally. I had to raise my 2 half-Japanese children all by myself financially, as when my ex went back to Japan, there was no legal procedure that would make him pay child maintenance (he just remarried and forgot we existed). My son married a gorgeous adorable wonderful Chinese woman, and I'm always telling him once you have babies, that's it, you need to do everything in your power to make her happy, because if you don't she can just take those babies, piss off back to China and you will never see your children again.

As an ESL teacher for adults for 2 decades, I F#%king furious when I see guys like this. Especially what he calls "the language' issue...miscommunication goes both ways--even when you speak the same language. We don't need to know English to hear your tone and body language, dude! She's not in love with him. He's operating out of fear. He's a bit paranoid. I had a friend who had got a mail order bride through a marriage broker from the Philippines. He was in the Philippines foe 2 weeks and he married her 3 months later after bringing her back to the states. He wanted to have a baby and she gave birth to their daughter. That was several years ago and now her whole family has moved to the U.S. from the Philippines little by little and they are now divorced. She just wanted to help her family come to the U.S.

Well, I cannot agree that it is a type of trafficking. Here the women are definitely not being forced; they have volunteered for their expedition. If they are unlucky in their choice of husband, they may not enjoy their USA adventure. If they actually do have love and the match turns out to be a good one, they will have many happy days ahead 😁

Most Eastern European women have a lot of family support when they are still home. Especially when they start to have bsbies. Bringing a person away from everything that they've known and also away from their support system and then isolating them is cruel. It's OK for a person to move for love, but their significant other should compensate for the losses that they've taken with kindness, attentiveness and love.
