Just ordered some banana plugs also. Installed a toggle switch between Ground of power supply and Ground of Multi-meter for measuring convenience.

You’re going to have to get more of that wood. You can print all the project cases you want, but few things dress up such cases like a woodgrain faceplate.

RE: PCB Etching. I've been down that road, tried everything. The Best result I get today is to spray the boards with black gloss enamel, Use the laser on low power to burn away the paint and expose the copper for etching. Wash with lots of water, then etch in HCL/H2O2 2:1 ratio (add the acid to the peroxide always). The HCL mix does not effect the paint. Once done (20mins) remove the paint Or do a second laser pass to expose the pad and leave the paint as a mask. And its really fast. Complex boards take 2-3 mins, small boards 30 seconds to burn and about 20min to etch. If you real keen make your own liquid tin and paint the pads for a neat finish.

So far I haven't been getting good results. Maybe I need a different paint? The other issue I'm having is that I'm still learning all the software involved simultaneously, and software has never been my strong suit. I think I'm laying out the tracks too narrow - still need to figure that out.

Dude for real ! Etching your own Boards is an incredible experience. Especially if it comes to double sided board design you realize very quick that you have to drill and plug every via by hand .. that has an impact on how one lays out boards in the future ! :D .. Also when it comes to tolerances and clearances .. since all these copper structure are build by whats left after etching.. but when you flash you 100% first self made hardware arduino or whatever project and it works.. 😊 Good luck !

Good haul today, the banana plugs plugs are a handy item, especially for low voltage wiring in an R/V, and of course for the ESC leads.

There is a lot of info on tinternet on laser etching pcbs but of particular note is the ForOurGood YT channel where the chap did a whole series on using his desktop 3018 cnc with laser fitted to make some really good quality pcbs with a resist coating. Might be worth a look for ideas, the chap who runs it is pretty talented with electronics too. Thanks for your videos. Cheers

I found these type of banana plugs with the rotating spring to have a pretty high resistance. I like to solder the two parts together to fix that.

@Shmbler They are made to rotate, it keeps your cables from kinking and over stresses. It's the original 1956 specifications.

Yes, I don't like them to rotate either, but my experience welding them stiffens the spring such that they loose their, um, spring-i-ness.

Used to be a mechanic, I have multiple 10mm sockets and spanners to make them easier to find haha

The thing about DIY PCB is you can have them in a couple of hours, ie, for the impatient - lol -.

What few videos I have seen with lasers and making circuit boards are simple when you dial in the speed and power. They coat the copper with a black sharpie and burn off where the traces are not going to be leaving the copper of the circuit. If you have a 555 timer, you could make a corner of a board into the simple flash circuit and use that as the test pattern, just remember the reverse of where you want the traces for what the laser cuts.

Would like to find a USB Type-C DIY plug that includes housings and tapering stress relief ... as well as the 2 wires for USB 2.0. You have probably seen that the new Rasp Pi 5 recommends a 5V/5A supply. Nope, none of mine advertise more than 3A @ 5V. 4-wire USB cable with 22awg (or better) power + 2 twisted data is also a rare bird, though the stuff certainly exists. The prospect of soft-selecting power profiles from a wall-wart is interesting.

USB C that connector may be, but they lied about the spec standard. I see that a lot from chineseum listings though.... still handy as charging cables :) Always love watching these mailbags. It can show off some great bargains, and also some slightly dodgy stuff

I don't know if you've thought of this. (you probebly have). When laser etching your PCB's don't forget to make the image negative, otherwise it will etch out the copper where you want the traces and leave the rest intact. LOL

Beware that many of those USB C female boards lack the resistors on the CC pins so will not work with anything else USB C (as the manufacturer has ignored that part of the spec)

Beware the BassWood... It's chemically treated. Ventilate your Laser ! 6mm (1/4") was the original Banana Plug, 4mm now the standard. So what's with 3.5mm (1/8") ? Quick calculation,,, 4 A 12 V 48 W interesting.

I don't know why it isn't on by default, and in fact I notice some channels turning it off - maybe they think they are getting less views because Google is banning them based on words in the vid and they think subtitles off hides words -.

@@pileofstuff could be KZbin having a fit providing their server with CC's (I notice that with other channels as well) and creators not getting CCs from KZbin automatically generated.
