Main Street Crossing Mineola, NY

Railfanned today at Mineola, NY at the Nassau Junction Tower & Main Street Crossing of the LIRR's Montauk, Oyster Bay, Port Jefferson, and Ronkonkoma lines some of busiest rail lines in the country. It was a tad tricky here filming next time I think I'll just let the camera keep rolling because this crossing really gets a workout. Also what else is also neat about this crossing like most Eastern LIRR crossings it is with Third Rail operation only here and Chicago I know of in the US has third rail with public crossings. Some other railroads like the former H&M now PATH used to have road crossing in Jersey City, NJ.

It will be sad when this crossing is gone. I've been watching trains from there since the mid-1970s!

Hello Tom Please watch my latest video, as I was just at Mineola this past Monday when you wrote this comment: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n4DadoKumsqhoM0 Yes it will be sad but just as sad if they can't relocate/move the Nassau tower then that will be gone forever :-(. Metro North in Westchester and Putnam Counties also has third rail crossings mostly on the Harlem Line between White Plains and Southeast (Brewster). The New York City Subway had one grade crossing on the BMT Canarsie Line (L train) at East 105 Street in Brooklyn but that was eliminated in the 1970s.

Thank you very much Railfan Cali UPRR I do plan to go back out here but mostly on a Sunday; driving from NJ to LI you have to go through NYC somehow. I would drive to LI if I had a reason for going there like family or if I worked out there. Another option would be taking a few trains to get there but on the Subways to LIRR I don't want to travel with my Camera bag and Tripod on the trains, also the train option is double the price of driving. I will make it back out here soon.

Thank you for watching Western Cullen Hayes Safetran Gaming 78163, what's great about this crossing is the fact that it is a junction and has a moving point frog littery at the crossing. Which making it for a pretty rough crossing that is heavily used, it will be good once the new LIRR mainline project is complete, eliminating these crossings.
