Maine Coon Cat: Meet Hobie the kitty with a big personality

A couple of years ago we surprised Sam's parents by getting them a Maine Coon cat. The first time we ever encountered one of these giant cats was at a cat cafe in Seoul, Korea. We soon visited a few more cat cafes around the world and it was with further encounters we fell in love with this gentle giant breed.
The following is a video of our one and a half year old Maine Coon who has many names but officially is called Hobie. You'll find shots of him playing, jumping, splashing, running, chasing, climbing, scratching, eating and a whole lot more. This cat is full of personality and it won't take long for you to realize why we think he's equally parts mischievous and adorable.
In terms of facts about the Maine coon gato enjoy the following:
The Maine Coon is the largest domesticated breed of cat and you'll notice in terms of its physical appearance large pointed ears, long whiskers, silky flowing coat and massive paws. These cats typically have a playful personality and are intelligent often being compared to dogs in terms of certain habits such as fetching and enjoying water. They're most similar in terms of appearance and size to the Norwegian Forest Cat.

Maine Coon Cat: Meet Hobie Video Transcript:
Meet Hobie the Maine Coon Cat, also known as Hobster the Lobster. Hobie is Sam's red-headed brother, and he's been causing mischief ever since he joined his human family. He may look cute, but this one is a troublemaker, though a lovable one at that.
Hobie has a fascination with water and if there's a dripping tap or a bathtub being filled, he'll be the first one at the scene. He loves drinking water from the tub, and if someone were to forget the toilet lid up, he'd likely climb in there too.
Playing with bubbles is another pastime for this cheeky little Maine Coon. He'll paw at the water while the tub fills, and then once bubbles start to form, he'll watch in amazement and then try to paw those too. He'll lean in as far in as he can without falling into the water, though I have a feeling he would enjoy a swim if he ever were to tumble in.
Once bath time is over, Hobie will wait for his human to leave behind a wet towel and then he'll crawl under it. Like I said, he's a strange one.
When he isn't playing with water, Hobie enjoys grooming time.
Oh, and scratching furniture as well. Especially if the piece happens to be an antique.
This lovable Maine Coon kitty is always up for play time. He enjoys chasing a laser across the couches in the living room, and he could easily spend a half hour running back and forth if it weren't for the fact that his humans get tired. Sometimes, however, his balance is a little off. There he goes...
Aside from laser tag, he also enjoys playing with 'Specie-Bird'. He likes to catch a mouthful of feathers, but not when the camera is rolling. That's when he decides to sit down and just stare at you.
Another game he enjoys is playing tag with Sam. Hobie will chase Sam down the halls, and then the two trade places, and Sam chases him down instead. It must be pretty scary having a red-headed giant chase you down the halls, but since Hobie runs faster than Sam, he has nothing to worry about.
Now this is where Hobie shows of his acrobatic skills. If running weren't impressive enough, he also enjoys leaping. And I'm not talking about leaping on furniture; he'll jump onto the kitchen counters, then onto the fridge, and then sit himself atop the cupboards.
And after all that, he'll take a minute to enjoy his own lunch. Bon appetit, kitty!
Of course, Hobie is still a young kitten, so after all that activity, he needs a siesta. If all his running around has tired you out, this is when you can enjoy a nap! Quick, before he wakes up.
Cuddles are still a work in progress for Hobie the Maine Coon, but regardless of that, he's a keeper!

Main Coons look quite like Norwegian Forest Cats. Size wise. My Tiger Boy looked fully grow at 6 months. He too did an exellent job at training his people... 😁🐾🐱🐾

So sorry about your kitty. I lost my best friend, Dufus, in April. She was my mom’s cat and her best friend. I took her after my mom passed and she became my best buddy. I miss her (and my mom) terribly. We thought she was a Mainecoon mix. Do you think you might get another Mainecoon someday? I know some time for mourning needs to happen. I’m so sorry about your loss. They become so much a part of our families.

My Maine coon cat loved to swim at our camp at Barker Pond in Sebago, Maine. He had loads of personality and was more like a dog than a cat. He walked on a leash beautifully and one time we were harvesting gladioli bulbs and we missed the cat. We had been throwing the stems and leaves into a bushel basket and missed him. I called, there was un upheaval in the basket and then he appeared - happy as could be. He was the most fun cat I ever owned.

Yeah, you just CANT let your cat outside, no need for it. If you do it won’t be long before someone steals it and uses it as bait for dog fighting, gets hit by a car, or is poisoned by people that don’t want cats in their yards, sand boxes.in addition cats are attractied to car dripping , antifreeze that immediately kills them Their is always the danger of being killed by a dog, dangerous bites by other unvaccinated cats, why chance it if you love him? I think you said he was killed at a young age. I did something similar and I so regret it until this time, my beautiful (in spirit) died because of a mistake caused by me. It’s just a matter of time!

Awww my Mainecoon called Ragnar is 13 months at the moment and your cat reminds me of him so much... Apart from Ragnar being more Mackrell tabby coloured (grey, brown, black and white). Plus we both know that Mainecoons stay a kitten up until 18 months and they don't reach full size until they are 3-5 yrs old. He loves chasing his two little big sisters around. Boo is a black medium hair siamese cross (7 yrs old average cat sized) and Purdy (turning 7yrs old next month and still looks like a kitten because she is tiny(she came from a huge litter)) is a lilac point pure breed siamese. When they get their silly heads on they love charging around together.... But we have to watch Ragnar because he is so big and strong. His playfulness can sometimes be a bit rough for the girls. Ragnar is thriving but he is staying very lean no matter what he eats (he is wormed and regularly vet checked).... Can't wait until he fills out and gets manly! Did your boy's weight plateau for a couple of months whilst he got tall and long? And yes you are right about the cuddles.... They just get easily over stimulated as kitten's and would rather dash about than have a loving cuddle. Once they get to be 3 yrs old you will have a loyal, calm, love bug. I had two Mainecoons before Ragnar. Joey was mummy's boy but Chandler (his biological sister) was more independent. Good news is you can still get them going with a laser pointer or favourite toy when they get to 13yrs old (which is when Joey passed from liver cancer). xxx

Ah, Ragnar sounds adorable. Hobie has remained quite lean even a year later. He eats well but just seems to burn off everything. He's definitely become more of a snuggler as he's maturing but at the same time he's still a playful goofball.

He is so so beautiful and fluffy!!! We have a Maine coon and he also stops whatever he’s doing when we try to film him. He follows us everywhere but took about 6 years or so for him to start laying in our laps and really cuddling hard. They are such amazing animals. My husband and I will def feel a huge loss in our lives when he passes. We just adore him.

He lays in our laps at night when we watch movies now. It took a lot of coercing though.

Yes I know my Maine Coon boy went to heaven and my heart was broken..he was very sick and so I enjoy watching these videos to remind me how they are so doggie like and fun. My other kitty kept me company very well after my boy went..Thank you and can you post some more pleaase?

Maine coons are adorable! My son-in-law has one and he too thinks he is the king in the house. He chases balls and brings them back and if there is an empty box he quickly takes over by laying down inside. Cute video, thank you guys!
