I have seen cat person in a sneak preview in Hanover, Germany and I loved it (9/10). This awkwardness, this relatability, this unfolding of this story; very much my cup of tea! I wonder why there seems to be barely any German reviews for this movie.. nobody I know has seen this movie. I hope I can somehow change that.

Nice! Yeah, it feels like this one has largely gone under the radar for some reason. It never even got a theatrical release near me so I'm glad I was able to catch it at Sundance.

I haven't heard this film being talked about yet in my movie-geek circles. But it sounds interesting. I've added it to my list.

Rialto hasn't done a good job of promoting it at all, but hopefully it'll pick up steam eventually.

Hi Alyssa just back from watching this movie with my friends,n I'm glad you gave it four paws, because I loved this movie,my friends enjoyed it too,but I enjoyed it the most out of all of us. I love it when a movie can make you scared, cringe, shocked, disbelief, etc, the switching between fantasy was awesome,if fantasy is the right word, that dog in the garage gave me a heart attack one he's supposed to be a cat person, but we all saw that dog somewhere else. I also saw killers of the flower moon, will you be covering that one two. PS I saw a trailer for an a24 movie, with Nickolas cage,it looks awesome,he was in Renquest an was fantastic, but he wasn't in it long sadly,so I was wondering if you saw the trailer,an what you thought.

Awesome, glad to hear you liked it Derk! And that you even saw it... it didn't get a very wide release here for some reason. Yeah, I saw Killers of the Flower Moon last week, but I don't have time in my schedule to do a review for it now. Maybe closer to the Oscars if it gains awards traction. Yup, I saw Dream Scenario at TIFF this year. Plan to put my review out for that one closer to its release date.

Haven't seen it yet, enjoyed your review. I read an article about it in Cosmo which recommended Fresh as you did, as well as the A24 film Men. I am going to try to watch all of these in the near future. So far the film that I most find a masterpiece but also unbearable is Antichrist by Lars von Trier.

Thanks! Interesting, nice to hear that there's a little promotion out there for the movie. I haven't heard many people talking about it at all. Men is an interesting recommendation too, definitely some similar themes with the tail end of this one. Oh yeah, Antichrist was definitely one of those Once Is Enough for me kind of movies. In case you're interested based on that Cosmo article, I've also got a review for Men (2022) here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o2O1ppKVjJJ4i8k

Watched it this afternoon, alone unfortunately, so don't immediately have someone to discuss it with! I enjoyed it very much, solid performances from the two leads - and leaves talking points a-plenty. I feel the trailer really shows the story from a single perspective, but I think there are two sides to this story, which is why it is so discussion-worthy. It is very relatable, uncomfortable etc

Oh yeah, always nice to be able to talk with someone about a movie right after! That's one of the downsides of seeing movies like this at film festivals too. Everybody is always immediately running to their next screening. I think the trailer gives a little too much away in terms of the turn the relationship takes.

I didn't like the end of the movie at all but not for the reason you didn't like it. I think it relayed a questionable moral narrative. I won't say what it is here because I don't want to spoil it, but if you end up watching the movie, really think about what Margot's final scene says about the previous ten minutes of the film. A lot of people will disagree with me, but I think the overall "moral message" of the end of the film is impoverished. The film had me for at least 90% of the run time; I thoroughly enjoyed those moments and will recommend the film to others. It will be interesting to see what they think of the last 10-15 minutes. "The Curse" is a show, not a movie, but it had me cringing the entire time. I actually had to take a two week break after binge-watching the first 6 episodes over three days consecutively (so, three hours per day). My nerves were *raw*. When I started the show again, I forced myself to only watch one episode per night, and to skip some nights, so that I could have plenty of time for my heart, my stomach, and my shoulders to heal from all the tensing, dreading, and bemoaning they endured. I lost count of how many times I put my hands over my eyes and bowed my head in shame. 10/10 for Cursed.

I haven't read the New Yorker story, but I do know that the ending of this film was changed a good deal from the original source. Maybe the original ending would work better for you? Interesting, I don't watch much tv but I'll have to look out for The Curse.

@@MainelyMovies I did end up reading the short story. I enjoyed the movie better than the short story because it fleshed out the world created by the author. Again, I did enjoy the movie overall! And yeah, I would say The Curse is just long-form cinema. I'm not a huge TV person either.

I didn't find their intimate scene cringy. FIrst time I watched I did, but only because it was through Margo's lenses and her attitude. Then I watched several times at how it just was without her monologues, and I feel that it was just a normal sexual interaction with a normal man, nothing wrong or disgusting. She just seemed to write him off immediately after seeing books Myths and Magic on his desk and when he turned on amazing Depeche Mode song, even though right before that she seemed totally into him. That was an awkward moment, her sudden change of attitude. The guy is honest, caring and sexy, as for me, I would definitely date him, even at the age of 20

Uhhh no. As a 44 year old woman, that shit was not a 'normal sexual interaction'. The kiss was disgusting enough.

The hard relate for me was when she was already in his house and changed her mind. The realization that it's easier to just have sex and get it over with, is something I think too many of us have done. My (male) partner did not like the film, but I did. Promising Young Woman is one of my faves!

Absolutely. I think this movie gets at some of those situations and moments of internal reasoning/pro and con weighing that a lot of people (mostly men) aren't even aware happen on such a regular basis for women.
