I watched Cat Person on hulu and needed to sort out all my thoughts on the movie, so here's my attempt at doing that.
Cat Person (2023) is a psychological thriller movie - based on a 2017 short story by Kristen Roupenian - that explores the anxieties that come with modern dating.
The movie stars Emilia Jones as college student Margot, Geraldine Viswanathan as Margot's best friend and roommate Taylor, and Nicholas Braun as older man Robert who proves that Nice Guys are usually anything but.
And Liza Koshy shows up at some point.

I think his therapy scene was her hallucination, not his. She plays out that scene to herself to excuse his poor date choice. That's how she hijacks the therapy session later. The whole film shows her overthinking in scenes like this. His overthinking is only revealed in frustrated or aggressive outbursts.

Yeah I agree, it makes more sense that it was her imagination.

I didn't realized it came from a short story. I did watch the trailer thinking it was thriller/comedy? Overall it's a good movie I was honestly not expecting a big fight scene at the end and seeing that he has cats! You were right about Margot putting on ear buds when walk home, I was like "What! Why!?" Lol I didn't like the mom too much, when they weren't concerned that she was dating an older man and forced her to sing the song from Marylin Monroe for her step dad's birthday party it was cringey! It did made me fear of going on dates, because I'm sure everytime she had a thought of him hurting her we were thinking the exact same thing.

Yeah the movie was a little different than I expected based on the trailer, but I'm okay with that because I enjoyed it. I didn't *like* that the mom pressured Margot to sing the song, but I appreciated that plot point because sometimes those pressures do come from other women, getting passed down from generation to generation. I think it gives insight into why Margot prioritizes Men's feelings over her own comfort and boundaries - her mom raised her that way. I think it's okay to be *a little* afraid, so long as that fear translates into action steps to stay safe - meet in public, be aware of your surroundings, plan an exit strategy in case you feel unsafe, and TRUST your instincts if someone is giving you bad vibes.

@@cinekizzle Yeah it sucks how she was raised. When her mom was saying "If you want to be with a man and not be alone for the rest of your life you need to live with a little discomfort" or something like that. On a funny note, when she used the pepper spray I knew she was accidentally gonna use it on her self! My mom bought me one before I moved and it still in a package, because I'm scared I might spray myself in the eyes! Lol 😂

When her mom said that I was just like 1) YIKES and 2) I'd rather be alone than uncomfortable. Compromise in relationships is necessary, but not in the way her mom was suggesting. But I do recommend you take it out of the package and test it outside (parking lot or backyard or something) so you're comfortable using it. Hopefully you never ever have to, but better to learn now! I hated having to test mine, but I was literally afraid of the same thing lol

@@cinekizzle I would get the gel pepper spray. My cousin got one incase if it was windy or the mist whenever you spray it.

@@cinekizzleI just watched it. I think her mother is a narcissist and that would explain her people pleasing and feeling unable to speak up for herself, ignoring red flags and going against her own true wishes and desires to appease this man. She put his feelings above her own feelings and her body. Typical for daughter of narcissist. Appreciate your review btw 😄

I think you were stuck at the age gap and thus took sides with Margot; all your point from Margot's point are apt, however, you forgot Robert and just blamed him for almost everything and you even went to stay that putting a tracker on his car was justified because she was scared of being killed? But nothing she did or he did justified. The story was written so beautifully just so we don't take sides and instead understand the paranoia both men and women go through, however of course as women are scared of being killed thus they might overthink which is again survival instincts but yet again the whole point is to be understanding Margot and Robert both. I think you missed half of the story and half of the quote all together....

I paused the video at the beginning to go watch the movie because I hadn't heard of it yet. Was pretty triggering at points when it reminded me of situations I've been in before. I also thought the same things at the ear buds scene, weird choice to make especially as a fan of true crime lol.. Also I didn't think the therapy scene was him imagining it cause the whole movie had been from her perspective, so I thought that was all her too? Anyways great video. New sub now. :)

Thank you and welcome! I think you're totally right about her imagining the therapy scenes. I did think it was weird that it was all her perspective and then there was just that little bit from his perspective, but it totally makes sense that it was still her imagining it. So it's funny that even in HER imagination, she apologizes for intruding on his therapy session.

I would guess this was an attempt at showing how young and inexperienced she is and how she doesn't know how to navigate dangerous situations. Which is more apparent with her insistence that putting a tracker on his car is a solution. I think the point was to emphasize her youth though I also agree this was a poor choice in the film.

Nicholas Braun is so gentle and calm. He behaves like well brought up person and I hope those allegations against him are proven wrong soon.

About him lighting up when they were hiding in the drain? Just a silly reference to a character the actor played in the movie Sky High, where his character's superpower was glowing so he lit up a dark vent the characters were in
