Oh how I remember the old humpy bridge on Ronkonkoma Road and the old Ronkonkoma station. Good German deli next to it. The Navy had a small detachment at the Unisys facility just over the bridge where trained people on a fire control system they built. When they had the AN/SPS-49 radar going everyone around the place trying to listen to their car radios knew it. The 80s where a fin time; seems just like 35 years ago.

Your videos help to keep my dream alive of becoming a locomotive engineer preferably LIRR. Could you ask Flying Yankee some advice for aspiring Locomotive Engineers or just working for railroads in general @Retired Railfan

Ryan….I’m flying yankee…..apply to LIRR as an assistant conductor after a year apply for engine service…..studying is intense….but it’s not rocket science…..and be sure to separate being a buff from doing the job. Good luck!

@@ryan_valornagee6984 btw, you can even apply for a coach or station cleaner, just get on the railroad 1st for any entry position and then apply for engine service….1 guy in my engineers class was a station cleaner and another was a coach cleaner.

i wonder why they have those unit signs in the beginning of the tunnel

For the simple reason that it lets the engineer know their train has cleared the slow speed switches of the interlocking and can begin accelerating.

question? what is that station platform across from Jamaica track 8. wow I need to visit my old hang out. I don't recognize the new track layout. That area used to be bypass going to the old morris park shops

They built that before the pandemic started for Brooklyn shuttle trains. It looks like it’s open I’ve never seen a train stop there

@@3985uprr Thank you much for the info. It's funny. Used to ride my bike along the fence that ran along that very area back when the Armor hotdog factory was still in full use. It used to have storage for broken equipment to to to Morris shops. And yes have lots of time just hung out inside with a hard hat watching from the side lines. Those were the day's any rail fan could just walk up to the doors or other area's un protected by any fence. I had even gotten a Blue media card from the Chef of Police upstairs of the old jamica station. Man his room was filled with old railroad stuff. I meet him one day while taking photos up at the old passenger yards. we became good friends from then on. The blue card was for if I was stopped by other police, show the card and No problem. :) I was 13 at that time. Thank you so much for your channel and your friends. you guy's do really great work. :)
