My SIL, not the brightest bulb in the box, claimed that every time her husband folded his pants instead of dropping them on the floor, she was going to get pregnant so there was no point in using contraceptives. Nine kids in ten years.

For those who are dealing with bright headlights behind them, there’s a little switch underneath your rear view mirror that’ll cause the lights to appear darker and not so bright in your eyes. I’ve used it multiple times and it definitely helps

I never went to my reunion (emigrated), but I did meet my high school friend group at one of our weddings. It was like zero time had passed. We'd all grown of course, but we were still the same hysterical bunch of loveable nerds as ever. Most of us are teachers of some sort now, a few became scientists. Our love for each other never died and we spoke with the same ease and trust as we always had. It was beautiful to see how well our SO's fit into the group too! Turns out that my ex and my husband get along like a house on fire. Just goes to show that true friendship may hibernate, but when the time comes, it will show to be as alive as ever.

51:52 There’s this term in sobriety called “pink-clouding,” which basically refers to a stage many people go through while getting sober, where they feel super positive and hopeful and like sobriety is the best thing that’s ever happened to them. And I don’t disagree with being positive and grateful and all the rest of it, not at all! The thing about it, though, is that sobriety ISN’T going to be all sunshine and rainbows, and if you think that sobriety will always feel amazing, it can lead you to fall EXTRA hard the first time things get rough. It can lead to feeling discouraged, or even disillusionment with the entire concept of sobriety being worth it, so this can be a really dangerous state to be in. I mention this because it sounds like the OP in this section might be experiencing it. I’m sure that for some people, it really does stay positive and exciting to them, but I really, seriously recommend caution if that’s how you’re feeling. Be happy, and hopeful for the future, and proud of yourself, because what you’re doing right now is really difficult, and you’re doing great. But declaring that the substance “was the problem” can make you susceptible to the idea that all your problems will now magically disappear, when in reality, many of those problems are probably what led to the feelings and situations you found triggering to use (and therefore they existed before the substance problem ever started). Even more notably, you now have this journey to go on of trying to, as this prompt put it, “un-f*ck” all the additional things that have occurred in the interim. I’ve been sober for over seven years now, and I feel like some people are being unfair to the poster who said that you learn to be thankful for the times alcohol numbed you. I wouldn’t phrase it as being THANKFUL for those times, but I do think that an important part of sobriety has to involve acknowledging that addiction served a purpose to you at one time. It obviously damaged you and so many aspects of your life, but at its core, substance abuse starts as a coping mechanism. It’s the addictive nature of substances & other chemicals (like endorphins or dopamine) that twists the coping mechanism into something that has now trapped you. I don’t feel GRATEFUL for substances or any of the other negative coping skills I adopted at one point or another. But I had to acknowledge that I was using them for a reason, not because I am some kind of…idk, hedonistic or fundamentally broken individual. Part of the process requires you to forgive yourself, and I don’t really know how people can do that without accepting that you were almost certainly trying everything possible to survive whatever circumstances or emotional state you were in. You just also have to accept that you will pretty definitely experience terrible things in the future, and try to use your sobriety as a way to learn and prepare to handle those things in a more healthy way when they come. All that being said, I want to make a final point here- if AA doesn’t work for you, don’t be discouraged from sobriety. 12-step programs have saved so many people, and I would never tell someone not to go if it’s helping them. I just personally have a couple beefs with them- for instance, the claim that AA is the only thing standing between an addict and “prison, institutionalization, or death.” That’s just patently untrue, and I feel like it’s a dangerous claim to make, as it’s basically telling people that if AA isn’t the fit for them, they’re just screwed. There’s also a weird tension sometimes between AA and utilizing professional mental health care (be that therapy or medications like anti-depressants), which I, again, feel is both dangerous and creating a strange competition factor that doesn’t need to exist. Some people in the program will tell someone who was using substances to dull their anxiety that they can’t take anti-anxiety meds, because that’s also just “using substances to dull the anxiety.” It makes me so angry, bc imo if you wouldn’t tell someone having an allergic reaction (caused by excess histamines, a hormone) to stop reacting, and you wouldn’t tell a type-one diabetic that they should just make their pancreas be better at producing insulin (another hormone, btw), then where do you get off telling someone with a disease linked to low serotonin production and/or hyperabsorption that they aren’t allowed to use medicine to correct that imbalance? I’m inclined to apologize for leaving such a long comment, but eh, if you’re still reading this thats on you 😂 thank you for coming to my TED Talk

When my nephew ask me about where babies come from. He was 10 and just by luck there was a medical program on about that exact subject. So I put the show on let him watch it. Once the show was over I asked him did that answer your questions. He said yes and never brought it up again.

In regards to who organise school reunions; it depends. Some schools especially larger and long established schools have alumina associations and others just have a person who arrange them. It is actually easier to organise them due to social media.

the stories about people asking if someone needs a ride when they're walking reminded me of the time my grandma saw me walking to work (20 minute walk on a bright sunny day) and immediately pulled over to have me get in her car so she can drive me the rest of the way to work. She didn't want me walking in case someone grabbed me off the street or if I might get a heat stroke. Love you Nana

I dont get grossed out by the idea of old people doin it I think about it like "they still love each other that much to do it till the day they die, thats very wholesome" So it usually puts an innocent smile (and also a good belly laugh) when i hear about grandparents telling ppl stories or ppl telling stories of their grand parents Funny cuz i imagine the horror on ppls faces, wholesome cuz of tge love between grandma and grandpa

I got lucky with my disabilities I have autism and adhd (i dont believe high functioning autism is a disability, its closer to a trade off between social skill and educational skill, but it is still classified as one) You would never know i had either at first glance. It takes a bit to realize with me. As a result, i never really get infantilized by people as they know im a capable adult before they know im on the spectrum or have adhd This wasnt always the case, however. When I was younger, both were much more apparent. In fact I even needed medication for my adhd or id be a chaotic little demon. So I was infantilized when i was a preteen and even in my early teenage years. And I grew to hate it. As a result i never really did so to other people with disabilities. The most id do is, if they had serious mental stunting, id use smaller words and be more patient with them than i would someone else. I always treated people like adults and they really appreciated it, every time. So folks please, treat us the same way you treat everyone else. Its the absolute best thing you can do for us. (Also its okay to ask a question or two if you dont know anything about what disability we have, were usually pretty happy to answer just dont be obnoxious or rude)
