Maintaining and Creating Entries

A critical part of declarer play is thinking about maintaining your entries.

2. The best option is to set up the diamonds, so go up with AS - maintain KS as entry to dummy. tinyurl.com/jvo...
3. tinyurl.com/yb... You end in 4H. You start drawing trumps, but here you encounter a 3:1 split. Normally you would leave the last high trump out, but here you should draw it, or you will not be able to run the spades. tinyurl.com/yd... leads to 1 more trick.
4. After a competitive auction you end in 3D or 4D. If you could ruff 2 spades your only losers are 2D and 1C. It’s important to win AH - keep KH as an entry so you can ruff another spade tinyurl.com/yb... or tinyurl.com/ya... Rewind and show the best lead was A trump and another trump.
5. The lead gives you a cheap trick with 10, but if you take it you may never get to run your clubs. tinyurl.com/y77...
6. Instead win with A, as you are now guaranteed an entry to dummy. This is not a waste, you cannot avoid losing a spade in any case tinyurl.com/ybm...
7. Unblock ace hearts then draw trumps, ending in dummy tinyurl.com/y8f...
