Great job replacing those flanges and for filming the action, we always struggle filming things when they do not go exactly to plan. We have a very wide collection of tools for removing tie rod ends, you should have said and we would have popped over with them 😀 This does not look like a great design, I would have thought the flange would have been welded onto the cylinder. I would not be surprised if you have some wear on the outside of the cylinder too which may mean the new flanges wear quicker, hopefully not
@GrampiesWorkshop2 жыл бұрын
Hello there Joseph!! I have said many times before in my comments on your videos, and comments that you have made, that you have an engineering brain. That's pretty neat that you notice things like the wear on the flanges and what causes it. I expect the cylinder rim has some wear too. The flanges look to be just cold rolled steel and the cylinder body needs to withstand some pressures and so is probably harder steel. So I think the flanges are designed to be the sacrificial piece in this puzzle. But it was a good observation that with some wear on the cylinder, it will wear the new flanges quicker than the old ones were wearing. I do believe the cylinder is meant to have some movement and not be mounted rigidly since it is a 'push-pull' type of apparatus. Thanks so much for your comments Joseph. It's a joy to read and respond to them!! Take care!!

With these tie rod ends if you give the mount where the tie rod fits into a good solid smack with a 4 lb hammer (Take the wheel of so you can deliver a good blow) It will come loose as the taper socket it fits into will no longer be round. Any time I see lock washers I question why they are there. Proper torque on a flat/hard washer is all that is needed for your tractor all the way up to semi trucks. It is great to see this was a no blood repair. Odd setup for a cylinder but considering this unit's age and all the work it has done yer in the green ladd. Take care eh.

Hello there Dean!! I never knew of that trick for getting the the ty rods to come loose. The second side almost popped out on it's own!!! The next time I do this job, I'll be ready now though!!! These flanges weren't wore nearly as bad as I thought, but I was glad to get the replaced all the same. I hope all is well with you my friend. Say hi to Sophie and we'll talk to yas...

@@GrampiesWorkshop I think you were right on time with this repair otherwise the damage to the cylinder end mounts would start getting out of hand and a trip to the machine shop to true up the cylinder end mounts and have custom end mount plates made. I am thinking about 2-1/2 to 3 shop hours. At $100.00 an hour plus the drive, oil loss etc, , ,I think you get my drift. That and the next time these plates need changing they have been basterised so off to the machine shop once more. You got at this right on time bud. Email headed your way.

@@TomokosEnterprize Hey there Dean!! Thanks a lot buddy. I noticed the movement in the cylinder a while ago and it was getting worse, so I figured it's time to get at 'er!!! Taking it to the machine shop, well you're right about the cost and then the bastardized part afterwards. Not what we want eh!! Have a good week Dean!!!

Hi Mike. Great catch on the problem at hand , most people wouldn't have even noticed until it was to late. Is the seal on the left side leaking? It looked like it but hard to say on this side of the camera eh
@GrampiesWorkshop2 жыл бұрын
Hello there Dave!! Wow you're pretty sharp at picking up on things buddy!! No the seal is good. This part of the piston is right under the oil filter. When I change the oil filter I always dribble some and it gets all over this end of the piston and it's hard to get at it to clean it off!!! LOL Thanks for the visit and the comments too. Take care!!!

interesting video Mike, overall I would say that’s a pretty poor method for holding a steering rack on ? Looks like an after thought almost. Surely it should be part of the rack not a separate bracket each side? Nice video,,, enjoyed it but I don’t think it will be long before we see you back under there 👍🏻

How's she goin'? it is a simple system for sure, but it has worked out good for 14 years and over 1000 hours on my tractor. I guess for this size of tractor it's all that's needed. Thanks a lot for watching an commenting. I enjoy reading comments!!! Take care!!!

Sweet, watching you for a bit now out in British Columbia. I just bent both the ears on mine. Wondering if you ordered from Massey Ferguson or a after market company? Love the channel, seems i have similar issues to you and you have a good set of videos for tractor! Keep up the good work. Thanks

How's she goin'? Welcome to the channel and it's great to read your comments. Here's a sickening story, I looked at Kubota brackets. The Kubota ones almost fit. I bet they would work but I didn't want to take the chance. The mounting holes were off by about 2 or 3 mm. Not a big deal, maybe!!! And the Kubota part was like $9.60 Canadian!! Now the Massey part, the ones I decided to go with, are you ready, $37 each!! Yes you read that right!!! All they are is a piece of stamped steel. I can't believe the prices for Agco OE parts. And tis is not the dealer jacking up the price either. I checked 2 dealers and on line and all the prices were the same. I took this one on the chin and went ahead and ordered the Agco parts and, well you saw in this video the results. The cylinder is a lot more stable now. So when you order your flanges it'll be interesting to see what they cost in BC!! Thanks a lot for tuning in and I hope you come back often!! What year is your GC? Is it a GC2300 series? I really like my tractor and it sure can do a lot of work!!! Take 'er easy!!!

I have a 2007 GC2310 TBL. Been running bucket and 64” box blade this winter working ok. But just picked up a 64” rear mount Kubota blower sweetness. Lags a little in deep icy snow, but gets i done. I ordered a set of brackets just after i commented from closet dealer and they where $30 a piece. See what shipping is. Keep up the great work.

I see you removed your gloves too early at 10:20... I do the same thinking the job is almost over and finally get dirty hands! When parts like that start to get loose, the wear gets worst very quickly. You better take care of it before the cylinder body gets worn. Thanks!
@GrampiesWorkshop2 жыл бұрын
Salut Joe!!! The Nitrile gloves are nice but when things start to go wrong, it's time to take off the gloves right!!! LOL These flanges have been wearing for a while and I wanted to get them changed before they got worse. That's why I changed them. As it turned out, there wasn't a whole lot of wear on them so maybe the cylinder rim is getting wore too. But the cylinder is more secure now and I think it's meant to have a little flexibility. Thanks for tuning in and take car!!!

How did you ever notice that looseness in that cylinder? I can't see Down there when I am steering. You must have been looking while somebody else was driving?

How's she goin'? I guess that's where doing a routine walk about and checking things pays off. @@GrampiesWorkshop Good idea.....I didn't even think of that angle for a channel. I mean I have been thinking about how I "ease my way" into retirement. What I mean is that I can easily imagine how I might just sign up to volunteer all my time to one thing or another than then find other things....and either welsh on my original volunteer activity, not be able to help or just load up my schedule to the point where it isn't fun any more! (like working w/o pay) So I have been "easing my way" into it as I said.....purposely. Thanks for the idea!

@@bigqueue I bet you would have loads of good info to share with viewers. I hear ya on the volunteer part. Nannie and I did a lot of volunteering while we were working. I planned to retire when I was 55 and my thoughts were when I retire, I retire from volunteering too. At least for a little while I figured and then see what happens. You know what, it took quite a while, but it was some nice to wake up in the morning and know that you had no meetings, things that 'had' to get done or I didn't need to be anywhere by a certain time. It took some getting used to, but that feeling is some nice!!

What a job?.... I don`t really like the design but then you don`t have a choice. there`s a trick to take them ball joints off and it`s not with a pickle fork tool....come down to my place and I`ll show you....the cylinder still moves a bit.....bad design for sure....CHEERS

Hello there Gator. That first ty rod end was a bear but I got it loose finally. I don't think that cylinder is supposed to be held real rigid. I think it's supposed to move some, but I was getting worried it was moving too much and I wanted to address that before I started doing too much plowing. Thanks for tuning in and have a great week!!
