I've had three in my life. Lost the last one, Leo a 14-year-old, little over a year ago due to cancer. Most amazing dogs. Extremely intelligent, fun, loving, and loyal. Each time one passed was losing my best friend.

Sorry for your loss. Losing them is terrible, they are unforgetable every single one. Over 30+ years I've lost five myself. They will be forever missed. My current two German Shepard rascals are 10 and 12 months old and I'm loving every minute with them. Nothing compares.

I had at least 1 GSD for over 35 years! I adopted one that 3 others couldn't handle. She was wonderful! They just didn't give her the time and affection she needed. After her, it was GSDs all the time in my life. I love the breed! Sadly, I’m too old and disabled to have another, and I miss them terribly! I downsized to a Cavachon, who I love.

Our Shepherd would just go limp and dead weight when he didn’t want to do something, and if you tried to pick him up, he’d welp like you were hurting him. He would sing, chase sprinklers for hours, and he was all about the ball. Miss that dog.

I've had my German Shepherd, Roxie, since she was 10 weeks old. She's 10 years now. She's been through it all with me. Meeting the love of my life. Moving in together. Getting married. 2 kids later and my youngest is 19 months now. And still Roxie will always be my baby. Not a lot of people understand but true dog people under this. Roxie was in fact a gift from God given to me at the right time.

My last 2 Shepard guarded/watched my grandchildren playing in the yard. He'd get up and walk to the side of the yard while they were playing. He'd get up and go to the other side of yard when the children moved, and lay down again! :)

I am 76 and have had 6 GSDs. All from Germany of Schutzhund lines. 5 out of 6 have saved me from burglars. They really really love me, are so smart and fun. They need good training, especially social training. I can take my dogs anywhere and they are fun loving, unless the person has bad intentions. My youngest is only 2.5 years, so we have a long time together.

It's never long enough time together. I've had five at the same time of various age overlapping with only one remaining now at 12. When you have your own pack, you feel like a gang leader and when you open the van door it's like watching how many clowns get out of the VW Beetle. What's really funny is going through a guard check point gate and watching the persons expression when they open the liftgate.

I am a 61-year-old German Shepherd owner. I actually have two of them that I have raised from a pup. One is 11 and one is seven and they have been phenomenal companions, helpers, etc. The German Shepherd, without a doubt, is one of the best breeds out there. I have owned many different breeds like black lab and Rottweiler, but my German shepherds are by far my favorite now, and will be all I ever own

We had a German Shepherd dog when I was around 13 and my brother was 10. He was a very good dog, and yes, very smart. A sweet boy. too, to his family. Anyone else better watch out. My paternal grandma got inside our home while we were out. Von would not allow her to move off the couch. He would growl showing his teeth and rush at her.

They can also problem solve and perform actions for which they were not trained. My friend fell and needed to get to his bed. He told his dog what he needed, grabbed her harness and she dragged him to his bed.

I love my shepherds because they fill me with energy when I ought to be tired, and force me to snuggle when I think I don't want to. Hardly a day goes by that they do something silly or bad, and it sounds strange but I have had other breed dogs who behaved perfectly, and didn't bring me the same joy.

They're thinkers. My dachshund is a thinker. Smartest, most intuitive dog I've had after some of the best of the big breeds and mixes of the usual fave breeds. Buddy was a dumped pup who found my front door. I am in awe of his instincts and smarts. He can pick a creep out of a crowd and start loudly backing them towards the exit. Nobody sketchy allowed near his people or property.
