The reason why Tails or Knuckles didn't save Sonic from drowning was because it was based off Sonic 1 and Tails and Knuckles weren't created at the time. So Sonic's soon to be friends can't save him from drowning.

Fun fact, you literally cannot lose as Sink. There is no game over screen in that mod. No possible way to die, because he cannot in the first place. You can beat the mod without touching a single key. When your hp drops to zero, you lose all control of Sonic. Essentially, he loses all hope and stops moving, but still not dead. Even the AI Sonic consciousness stops singing. All we see from then on is Sonic's "lifeless" body, floating for eternity, in horrific pain for eternity. No matter what you do, even winning, it will result in a bad ending. This is one of the only mods to ever strike fear into me.

So in the "Drowning Sonic"/Beneath the Depths mod, I think that the sonic in the back represents his consciousness. And when the Sonic in the front stops singing for a moment, his consciousness is trying to tell himself to not give up and there might be hope.

The sonic in the back behind Sink is his own will power/soul (At least from I studied about the mod). And the reason why Tails or Knuckles don't save him is because this takes place in the first Sonic game, specifically in "Labyrinth Zone". Tails and Knuckles never existed until Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Sonic the Hedgehog 3/Sonic 3 & Knuckles. I really hope Eggman isn't that cruel to just let sonic continuously drown over and over again. And 1 more small theory, Sonic has 3 lives (or more if he finds extra lives) right? He lives by the game rules. Weeell what if his will to live is so strong that he doesn't have to follow the game rules anymore, Ehh?

Egg man had nothing to do with Sonic’s horrible demise. Sonic was swimming in the labyrinth and he was very scared but he had to face his fears. He was near the end of the labyrinth, grabbing air bubbles along the way to not drown, but his food somehow got stuck in the chain of one of those balls, and dropped down and down and down. Sonic was just seriously unlucky in this timeline.

Xenophanes is the new name for Sonic.exe if you didn't know I think it was because of something happening to the original creator of Sonic.exe so someone else remade the character In Triple Trouble in the Sonic.exe mod, you can see Xenophanes' true form, which is the new remade version of Sonic.exe.

Along with him not meeting his friends yet, the spin dash wasn't a thing at all in Sonic 1. The worse part is that if you're a sonic veteran like me he absolutely HATES water and can't swim. His worst possible fear is his reality he has to live through over and over again. Edit: so people might not understand why sonic is bleeding underwater. But if you stay underwater for a prolonged period of time you start getting lesions on your skin. The water wears your skin down almost like it's rotting.

The lifeguard was fucking stupid and didn’t do anything about it. Ended up being saved by two strangers. Traumatised my brother pretty badly, I got over it in a couple months. Almost drowning was HORRIBLE, never wanna do that again. Edit: I remember at one point I was pretty close to getting out of the mess when I was almost at the surface. I knew my nose was above water so I tried gasping for air only to end up swallowing a bunch of water instead. Progress straight back to zero after that. Until someone saved me

Ordinary sonic is a reference to a rom hack of sonic 1 where sometimes at random points sonic.exe chaces you and when you collect a item box I'm pretty sure it changes to normal. That is why when you here the item box sound then it turns to normal

The way sonic is bleeding like that is because the water pressure is so intense. That its pushing blood out, and due to a (possibly) Infinite Lives, he stays down there in agony, waiting to be rescued. but deep down knowing it wont ever happen (maybe)
