Ranking How USELESS Sonic is in Every Sonic Game

Sonic the Hedgehog is an icon in gaming, but despite being the hero in most of his games, his contribution varies TREMENDOUSLEY.
So today, we're looking at Sonic's character in every mainline Sonic the Hedgehog game and ranking him from worthless to elite.

It was obvious from the start of Sonic Adventure that Sonic will have a more mature storytelling and appeal to older audience. Sega was trying to emulate Mega Man X. By giving Sonic green eyes to match X’s. Shadow being based off Zero. Wished they stuck to that route.

Wait a sec... You're trying to say Tails's story ends after Sonic's in SA1? Thats just not the case, We literally see Tails arriving in the Mystic Ruins after his final boss and Eggman had literally just left after Sonic beat him. Tails's final boss has to happen before Sonic's.

U all are completely wrong.Let me remind you completely of this, On the Egg carrier,after Tails and Knuckles beat the crap out of Chaos,Eggman tried to flee by getting off the Egg carrier.Sonic also jumped behind him.At the same time,Knuckles decided to beat the crap out of Chaos again to retrieve the Chaos Emeralds.After defeating Chaos,Knuckles' story ends. Coming back to the part of Sonic,when he jumped off the Egg Carrier, he lost Eggman and found himself near the Mystic ruins.After a little bit of searching for Eggman,he found him and defeated him afterwards.This is where Sonic's story ends. After this ,Eggman ran towards station square,launched a missile,and made Tails the hero and all.This is where tails' part ends

@@abadhyadarsh9946 No you're completely wrong. Tails never fights Chaos on the Egg Carrier and Eggman was with Tails and Amy as they landed. Why would they take so long to get to the ground? Sonic's in Lost World for some time, giving Eggman plenty of time to get beaten by Tails and then flies to his base in the jungle. By your logic, Tails and Amy were flying around during the time Sonic did two levels, a flashback and a boss fight

Well mario is going to end up typical the majority, not a single worthless (at least if is luigi's mansion if he mentions it), and the elite would be new super mario bros because of mega mushroom and just using it to destroy all bosses including bowser and bowser jr., mario galaxy for defeating bowser's plans of conquering the universe and managing to save the universe, new super mario bros 2 because of the almighty golden mario that also destroys bosses and just a money maker that you would ended up with 99 lives without glitches, bowser's fury on fighting bowser's strongest yet form (i'm assuming since i haven't play it yet), mario odyssey because he can possess all creatures who doesn't have a hat or helmet, making him have more power thanks to his partner cappy, mario wonder is between typical and elite because the start of the game he saw what bowser was looking at, which is the wonder flower, mario tried to grab the wonder flower but bowser's reached it first, if mario grabs it, it just ruins bowser's plans for the very beginning and the game would not even happen which that would be funny. (If there was mention like RPG and tactics mario games there would be a bunch of elite because the main villains of those game are like stronger than bowser or their plans is even more evil than bowser that bowser denies it and fights against it (Because he wants to conquer the world, or if they mess with his minions or his son, bowser rages on the enemy)).

Calling out the Sonic Adventure segment because the events are presented in the wrong order. Eggman launches the missile immediately after the Egg Carrier crashes, not after Egg Viper. Tails and Eggman race to the missile, and Tails stops him. Then Eggman returns to his base in the Mystic Ruins THEN activates Egg Viper as one last ditch effort but Sonic stops him

One thing I gotta say with 3 Supers Vs. Solaris in 06 is Sonic is actually soloing Solaris as each hedgehog is fighting it in a different point in time. I believe the order is (I could be wrong), Shadow is past, Sonic is present, and Silver is Future

However, not even with this did they manage to beat Solaris, all they did was temporarily knock it out. They only won because Sonic and the princess went back in time to a pint in time where Solaris was at its weakest and killed it right there.

Also sonic isn't technically the only playable one in Unleashed. Chip is briefly playable for part of the boss battle. Chip is part of why Dark Gaia is gone. And Sonic's cocky behavior is part of why this happened.

@@JohnDoe-dw3hj I'm just saying he's rated a bit high compared to some other entries due to being the 'only playable character' but Chip does a lot against Dark Gaia. Then again I guess Sonic helped him remember and kept him safe in his vulnerable state. I was saying his cockiness led to this because of Eggman turning him into a werehog after Sonic paused and said a mocking remark. He seemed to let his guard down. I may be stretching a bit because maybe he was just showing mercy to a man who seemed to have no other way to fight back as he was cornered, though. Some other games had Sonic do the work while the others sat around. His rating in Forces is odd considering that the other characters fighting the clones does literally nothing for the plot. They weren't trying to attack Sonic while he was taking on the boss that made them all disappear, so they had no reason to distract them. Plus the fact that the clones DISAPPEAR right after Sonic defeats the boss. If they were actually defending something that'd be useful, but they aren't.

Sonic Adventure 2 - sidekick/elite Sonic Advance (trilogy) - sidekick/elite Sonic X - elite (and I know that considering all the times Amy Rose, Chris Thorndyke, Eggman, Knuckles, Shadow and at one instance Tails and Cream raged at him in episode 42 for standing literally everyone he knew up, maybe I should've given him a "barely wins" score at best, but then that would be looking at the character in a very one-sided view because while some of them, save for Knuckles and Shadow, had a reason to feel disappointed in him, he always needs and wants to save the day... and the world, plus it's sad that Dark Sonic gets so much hate he's never been used since because in episode 67, considering what the Metarex could do to Tails and Cosmo, of course he had a right to turn into that form) Sonic Heroes - sidekick/elite Shadow the Hedgehog - barely wins Sonic Rush - elite Sonic Riders - barely wins (I think it makes sense to be a fan of Sonic in the 2000s while admitting that was a dick move when he sucked Amy Rose into a tornado. It makes you wonder if or didn't mean to but still could have admitted what he did was wrong or because he hates women in general and got jealous and worried because he felt like either she would date someone else after all the times he stood her up because he needed to save lives or because he's worried that his besties Tails and Knuckles and new-at-that-time rivals like the Babylon Rogues would one-up him) Sonic '06 - barely wins (of course, it was Team Dark (Shadow, Rouge and Omega) and Team Rose (Amy Rose, Blaze the Cat and Silver the Hedgehog) that stole the show) Sonic Storybook series (and yes, I am counting Secret Rings & Black Knight and hope they make a prequel to prove his stories true) - elite Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity - sidekick (then again, like in Heroes, he did bring his besties along with him for the adventure)/elite Sonic Free Riders - barely wins/sidekick Sonic the Hedgehog 4 - typical hero (what can I say? This game sucks! At least episode 1 does! But in episode 2, while a debatable improvement, he alongside Tails would leave the captors they were supposed to rescue on Little Planet to die, something even Characters in Depth would point out) Sonic Colors - typical hero (and I mean that in a bad way) Sonic Generations (both Classic and Modern, mainly Modern) - typical sidekick (think about it, gaming has a lot of silent protagonists and as for Modern Sonic, well, while it's mainly because of him why the day was saved, he didn't learn anything from Colours) Sonic Lost World - barely wins Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric - worthless (just like the game 3DS Sonic Boom games - sidekick Sonic Mania - sidekick/elite Sonic Forces - worthless (I was so close to giving him a "barely wins" score since technically, he's pretty much like in Generations, Classic or Modern, but besides that, he's at his worst here either way) Team Sonic Racing - sidekick/barely wins Sonic Frontiers - elite (in fact, here, he might be at his best, especially for a post-00s Sonic game) Sonic Superstars - barely wins/sidekick

Personally for Frontiers Sonic being more mature, I like to believe the events of forces and the IDW comics (mainly the metal virus arc) opened his eyes to the possibility that he needs to be more careful and serious, and as the IDW is confirmed to be canon, the metal virus must have been the final thing that caused Sonic to be as mature as he is in Frontiers, yes, he still has a sense of humour, but he's certainly more serious, similar to how serious he was during the metal virus arc, so that's my reasoning for Sonic being as mature has he is in Frontiers

I feel like you should've mentioned the fact that he helped save the Master Emerald in Sonic 3 and DISOCVERED the hyper form rather than his him being in hyper form. Being powerful is one thing. Being useful is another. You can be at your strongest but just sit around and drink tea. The Master Emerald being gone is a serious issue. And hyper forms could've possibly been useful to defeating Eggman in the future, though unfortunately aren't used anymore.

While most of the video was quite nice, you've forgotten a lot of things Sonic has done in some of the lower ranked games such as: Most of the characters in SA1 focus on their on thing. Amy just chases Sonic and gets chasen by a single eggman robot, Big is just looking for froggy, and Omega is just fighting his peers. While they admittedly do some work, it is absolutely far from what Sonic, tails, and knux does. Shadow mentions how Sonic is the actual ultimate lifeform in one of the sound files in SA2, and never actually appears as Sonic's "better" in there. He wasn't sidekick level at all. If it weren't for Super Sonic in Sonic Heroes, Metal overlord wouldn't have been defeated. Sonic GAVE, and SHARED his Super form with Shadow and silver in 06, and defeated most of the tougher Eggman robots in his story. In the final boss cutscene in Sonic Colors, Sonic sends Tails back to earth to handle the Nega-Wisp Armor by himself, and to save Tails if things go south in space. He handles the deadly six like they are a joke in Lost World, doesn't struggle a bit. I do admit that Eggman saved him there though. Sonic got stronger throughout Forces and actually defeated Infinite multiple times during the story. Infinite even mentions how he doesn't reflect his previous data, with Sonic replying that he gets stronger by the second. He was the only one capable of defeating Infinite and pretty much carried the custom character through the null space they were sent in. He also was not just jailed, he was tortued for if I recall 6 months in space. Overall nice analysis though. Looking forward for your future work.

I always thought Tails’ finale took place while Sonic was in the Lost World stage and flashback. Then, Eggman, humiliated by Tails, decides to retreat to his base, and Sonic sees the opportunity as an early Christmas present of potential robot wreckage.

3:15 Tails is lying in this version of events. Because you are seeing the story through Tails perspective this is basically the little kid saying:”Oh yeah and when Eggman showed up, I talked mad shit to him and Sonic was like ‘yeah Tails, you’re awesome!’” The only things that are accurate is when Tails is by himself. I’m not making this up either as you can see Knuckles and Sonic both see Tails the exact same way in their crossover story. This is the case with most of the characters but Gamma and Sonic who are all telling the story from a biased perspective

I frel like you could have covered the Storybook sagas too, though I guess its not to figure out where they would be placed in, as the First Book Sonic basicaly does almost everything by himself with a couple power ups from his friend ginie, so Typical Hero. While second book Sonic needed the help of that universes(?) Shadow, Knuckles, Blaze and Amy, otherwise he would have lost but that's after defeating them (which bribgs them to gis side after Talk No Jutsu'ing them), defeating Evil King Arthur, after they help its up to him to defeat Merlin (who's also a girl? I blame Nasu for this), so Typical Hero. Same would be for Horizen DLC, as Amy, Tails and Knuckles become playable and have their own unique stuff that feels good and are needed to help Sonic with his Cyber Curroption, without that we wouldn't get the new DLC ending, so that might bring him down to Typical Hero, I think.

With SA2, the Japanese version of the game (as well as Sonic X) outright state that Sonic intentionally let G.U.N. Imprison him so that he could find out more about who and what Shadow is. Sonic also technically proves himself to be stronger than Shadow during the final hazard fight as it’s directly implied that Sonic had an easier time handling the emerald’s energy than Shadow did. Sonic Forces is also an interesting case because that game heavily implies that without Sonic, Eggman could take over the planet relatively easily. We also see Sonic grow from being utterly stomped by infinite to being able to combat him enough to even match his killing blow meant for Silver.
