Real Pali Buddhist, Theravada or Hinayana were considered as Hin or untouchables because of the years of oppressions on them by Hindus. Later most of them were killed and rest ran away to Tibet and some to Sri Lanka, rest became today who we know as Dalits. The series of Indian History is merely the struggle between Brahminism and Buddhism said by D.R. BR Ambedkar. Many Brahmins converted to Buddhism and rest were jealous of the rise of Buddhism so after the Mauryan dynasty, Brahadrath Maurya the last king was killed by Pushya Mitra Shunga also known as Parshuram, was disciple of Brahmins who wanted the Brahmins supremacy.
