Thanks so much for all this info, Stephanie! I just adopted my brother's majesty palm and your video answered all my burning questions. I really appreciate you showing us your palm- it really helps me as a visual learner, and it gives me hope that in a few years my sad palm will be majestic like yours! I started watching your other videos (so many plants!), but didn't see all so just wondering if you have any citrus trees and, if you do, how you care for them. Thank you!

I picked up my Majesty Palm from Lowe’s for $15 a month ago. I’m giving it some outside time but keep it inside most days. I have 2 new fawns and one it’s almost fully open. Hopefully it thrives inside through the Winter. It already has its own grow light once I figure out where I’ll keep it in my house.

Greetings! I bought a majesty palm at the beginning of summer 2024. It's been on my patio the entire time. It's the 1st day of fall, time to bring it in. Yesterday I noticed a mushroom growing on top of soil. I removed it. My question is...should I repot it THEN treat for pests or treat pests 1st? Also, I have a 2nd majesty on my patio as well. Do you think the mushroom spores could've infected my 2nd palm. What to do about yellow leaves on one of the palms? Do you think fertilizer would improve its appearance? Many Thanks!❤ Your palm is simply stunning

Thanks for the valuable info! Would you say the majesty palm prefers higher watering frequency irrespective of the soil? For example, I have a majesty palm in a general potting mix and find that soil stays damp for at least 3 weeks after each watering. It gets plenty of indirect light throughout the day, though it's growth & appearance have been stagnant for several months. I've heard some people suggest "half" watering (stopping before water starts coming out the drainage hole), that way you can water more frequently and the plant would prefer this. Thoughts?

Your palm is BEAUTIFUL! GOALS! I wish I could show you the state of my 5 that I got in May. Is there any way?? They are STRUGGLING - fully brown/yellow leaves, a tiny bit of new green growth but one is just all stems no leaves anymore-is it hopeless? After watching your video I think it may be an over-watering (I've been watering daily b/c we've had HOT DRY weather this summer) AND lack of food situation (I haven't fertilized at all so will go get what you recommended and try that weekly). They are under the eaves on the south side/back patio of our SW Washington house. Pretty mild normally, good humidity, but got lots of hot sun this summer. They basically pretty strong sun for at least 1/2 the day maybe more. We are approaching the rainy season in a couple months so I'm not sure what to expect then. No mites (maybe I missed the spring ones?? - bought all at Lowe's in May) but I will look for them soon. Thank you for your video. I love these plants and want them to thrive so desperately even though I am TERRIBLE with plants.
@allhouseplants
@allhouseplants Жыл бұрын
Sorry they are struggling! The one with only stems is probably gone. If there’s green growth there is still a chance. From the story it sounds like they may have burned up in the sun. If they are not used to strong sun and suddenly get it, that happens. Same thing happened to my fiddle leaf. If you can, pull them out of their containers and look at the roots. If they are brown and papery they are rotting from overwatering. If they are white they are healthy. Also, palms do normally shed dead leaves so remove the dead. This lets the plant move on to sustaining the living leaves 💚

You can either scratch up the roots a bit and plant in a larger container, or prune the root ball (cutting off no more than 1/3 of the roots) and replant into same pot with some fresh soil. However if you prune the root ball I would wait for spring

Hi there! No, that pot doesn’t have a drainage hole, so I water about 1/4- 1/2 every week or two, (big pot, 20x17 inches) I stick my finger in the pot, if it’s dry the length of my finger it’s time to water. I don’t use a grow light because it’s in a west window, but if you don’t have strong sunlight I would use one. No I don’t use miracle grow because 20-20-20 is too strong for a houseplant with no drainage hole in pot ( there is nowhere for the excess fertilizer salts to drain, and can burn the plant) I use organic Espoma indoor liquid fertilizer, much weaker, 2-2-2 I think? Thanks for comment, hope that helps!! 💚

Can I break apart a triple trunk into three pots?
@allhouseplants
@allhouseplants 6 ай бұрын
Hi, yes you should be able to. Just make sure the trunks aren’t fused at the base (like, you don’t have to cut them apart with a saw) and *try* to be as gentle as you can with the roots. It will be traumatic for the plant, so try to cause as little collateral damage as you can

I bought one from Home Depot recently and it was extremely root bound. I could not loosen them by hand and opted not to cut any of them off while repotting in a larger pot with fresh soil. Was this a mistake? Should I saw/cut off a portion of the roots?
@allhouseplants
@allhouseplants 6 ай бұрын
No, you don’t have to cut the roots of a bound plant. The pros go back and forth on that. Loosening them helps the new roots spread out faster, but damaging them too much can be dangerous for the plant 🤷‍♀️ What is important is that when you water, water by the base of the plant to soak that rock hard ball of roots, but also water well on the edges to attract roots OUTWARD outside of the ball. Roots naturally seek moist soil, that’s why it’s important to water all over the top of the pot to distribute it evenly.
@nimster64

Ok I brought them in and the outer fronds are yellow they all have new shoots. Should I cut the yellow ones off or should I let them dry up then cut them off? I don’t know if I can post a picture on here. Thank you so much. This is my third year bringing them indoors but they don’t seem to get taller then five feet because the outer ones don’t survive so I cut them off. Not sure what I am doing wrong
@allhouseplants
@allhouseplants 11 ай бұрын
You can cut the dead ones. Just make sure it’s still getting as much sun as you can give it in the winter. And also make sure you’re fertilizing regularly during the growing months. I probably prune mine once a year for dead fronds. Also make sure you’re bringing it inside before it gets too cold. Maybe the cold is stunting the growth a bit?

@allhouseplants
@allhouseplants 11 ай бұрын
NO, do NOT cut the top! Topping a palm will kill it unfortunately. If you can prune just that frond a little bit away from the ceiling if it’s bothering you. If it’s growing a baby plant at the base, cut the baby away and keep the baby and start fresh. Or, trade someone for a smaller plant +money. That’s the only bad thing about indoor palms, there isn’t much you can do with them once they touch the ceiling, but great job growing and loving it!

I've had mine for a couple of months from costco, I'm thinking the brown tips are from cold damage. Do I need to trim those off? The green won't come back right?
@allhouseplants
@allhouseplants Жыл бұрын
Hello! Correct, once tips go brown the green will not come back, but it’s your aesthetic choice whether or not to trim the tips. It may be cold damage if it was exposed to less than 60 for more than 5-10minutes. It can also be overwatering, so if it keeps happening check your soil. Lastly it can be fertilizer burn, so just make sure your are fertilizing correctly; I recommend organic liquid fertilizer.

One of my majesty plams developed a bad case of scale insects. I never had this palm outdoors and none of the other plants in my house had scale insects. Therefore I assume the plant was infected when I bought it at the big box store. After using soap and water to attempt to kill the scale insects, I began using alcohol on a q-tip to kill each individual scale insect. I am not sure this palm is going to make it. So my cautionary tale is to make sure if you buy a majesty palm from a big box store, check it over very carefully for scale insects before you bring it home.

Now every spring and fall I spray it down in 1 squirt soap: 32oz water once a week for a month. I don’t take it outside anymore either. I personally didn’t find that neem worked well, and I couldn’t stand the smell. Hope that helps, good luck!

Oh no! Well, you can’t cut the top off a palm tree, so do not cut it back to the ground. Allow the individual fronds to die off, and remove them one at a time and give it time. You may find that a new undamaged frond will emerge. If the whole plant got too cold even down to the trunk it may not recover but only time will tell. When mine got damaged it was only outside for 30-40 minutes so it can happen very fast. Good luck!

Are cat palms similar with the needs of a majesty palm?
@allhouseplants
@allhouseplants Жыл бұрын
Hello! NO, Cat palms are understory palms like Parlor Palms. So medium to low light, but can be acclimated to a bright indirect light situation, but limit direct sun exposure. Majesty palms like full-sun, and can handle all the sun you give them (as long as they haven’t been acclimated to a low light situation upon coming home). I intend to make a video about the different types of palms. Will try to fast-track that one. 💚🌴

Hey I got a question what do I do if the palms starts to get yellow
@allhouseplants
@allhouseplants Жыл бұрын
Is the whole tree starting to get yellow or just a bottom frond or two? If it’s only fronds from the bottom, and it’s only one or two, this can be normal shedding of the fronds, and just cut them off as close to the stem of the plant as you can. If the whole tree is yellowing, check soil and root first. Too wet or too dry? Also check the plant for spider mites. You will notice very teeny tiny webs between the leaves, and this means spider mites. Let me know.

Actually Brown Tips Could Mean A Humidity Issue. FYI..
@allhouseplants
@allhouseplants 6 ай бұрын
Yes, you are correct, for a plant like Calathea or begonia that requires very high humidity. Most palms like high humidity, but can tolerate moderate humidity well. The most common reason for brown tips in plants that tolerate low to moderate humidity is overwatering (or in the case of dracaena chorine sensitivity) 💚
