As a guy that grew up in Norman Ok and my best buddy still lives down the street from the Severe storms lab I’ve always kept an eye on the sky. We now live at 2500 feet off grid above Willits Ca, where we lived in a tent while homesteading 25 years ago. To say we are influenced by the daily weather is an understatement. We can’t tell you how invaluable your work has been to us this winter. Giving us big heads up on all this weather allows us to really prep for it. People literally have not been able to get off the mountain from last Monday to yesterday. Going to town today myself to reup for next round. I have a friend in SoCal I send your link to. She watches a storm chaser back in Tornado alley. Last week I told her “my guy says your guy is getting ready to be busy. And sure enough. That Nader in Norman missed my buddy by about a mile. Big big thanks !

@@Oldcrow77 Hi up there! I think you have great questions...and I am pulling for a safe summer season for us all. I am certain you guys are hanging tough; but hope it gets a bit easier for you all soon. We are at 1200 feet...so it has just been sweet sprinkles of snow...not particularly impactful. What has been tough (for us) is the wind this year. I have lived on the ridgetop my entire life (46 years now); and we have never lost so many trees in one winter! Heavy winds, and the trees are showing limited to non-existent root structure when they rip out. Hope to get get them cleaned before the "fire season"...which is apparently a season now. Best Wishes for you and yours in Willits!

at 3:13 graph shows Humboldt county "abnormally dry" while Ruth Lake is water source for 94,000 of the 136,000 County population and Ruth Lake is at 99% capacity. Scarce ever that Ruth Lake is at level to substantiate a drought condition. At the very least....puzzling. Snow is immense in those mountains.

Thank you for being cautious about warning atmospheric rivers versus mere features. I've noticed cable news outlets overusing the term for anything that even looks like one, even if the fetch is only a few hundred miles. SoCal news outlets were right to warn of the conditions recently, but technically one of the storms they called an AH was not, merely was huge and hovering just so that the pump was strong and continuous perpendicular to the transverse ranges. I suppose AH is a new term to most of the public and it will take some time for critical understanding to grow, not unlike understanding the terms sleet and blizzard correctly. I grew up watching Pete Giddings, then of KGO in San Francisco, through the 82 and 83 El Niño; and he may have been the person to coin the term Pineapple Connection, which he said a lot during certain storms at that era (especially Jan 2-4, 1982).

I just wish the state would allow us to actually save some of this water. Imagine if we had more resevoirs too. What a shame to let some much water spill out to sea. Well, for now, its nice to see some consistent good rain and snow. Record setting stuff has happened. I would like to see more winters like this, but sadly if the weather system swaps like predicted, I'll have to endure long summers which I hate. For now, I haven't had to water my plants for a long time which I appreciate greatly!

Snowline school district has been on snow days this entire week because of Wrightwood California. Mother Earth hangry AF at the west coast U.S. NNW CA here and I'm one of the few hoping this low pressure system center will dip further south and bring something rival to the 1955 and 64 floods. Maybe though it will as this low pressure moves north westerly will draw strong tropical moisture and rain over low elevation snow which could swell rivers from the rapid melt. Mid March has potential for sun and warm

the informational density, the pace, the usefulness...eventually i'll stop saying it but thank you so much. i was thinking how cool it would be to see the trends animated to look more natural. so for example when you are talking about wave direction and intensity, instead of seeing the arrows and high contrast zones, you'd see water moving according to the direction and intensity, maybe start to see white caps and taller waves closer to shore but rendered by something more like a gaming engine like Unreal or whichever one made most sense. you see all these epic world shots from video games all the time and i'd love to see real time, data driven/relative renderings of what's happening in our real world. like a marriage of 2 arts. i'll always love the charts, graphs and bullet points but it could also be interesting to see it represented through modern visual arts and tools. do you know if anything like that already exists?

I will predict the authorities will declare the drought over when the totals surpass the storm system beginning on December 24, 1861, and lasting for 45 days, when the largest flood in California's recorded history occurred, reaching full flood stage in different areas between January 9-12, 1862. The entire Sacramento and San Joaquin valleys were inundated for an extent of 300 miles. At that point they might look like they are not being upfront with the public so they will declare a temporary status to the drought!.

Propane freezes at -306.4°F so how does cold weather harm a propane bottle? All propane tanks are outside. Big ones and little ones.
@PacificNorthwestWeather
@PacificNorthwestWeather Жыл бұрын
Its not the freezing that causes the issues, here is one of the best explanations I've seen: The gas can’t vent and tends to follow the path of least resistance, the hole the pipe into the house. Was a huge issue during the winter in 92/93, multiple explosions that winter. The regulator on the tank needs to be free of snow to vent correctly.
