In this winter outlook for Florida for the 2023/2024 winter, El Nino is expected to get stronger into the winter months. That typically means it could be wetter, stormier and colder in Florida. Some of Florida's worst severe weather outbreaks have occurred during a strong El Nino.

@RedHeart64
@RedHeart64 11 ай бұрын
@@Dan-zs4rk You must be comfortable, to think like that. You should do a little research, and learn just how difficult it is to move away (which we'd do in heartbeat if we could) when you're NOT rich. Moving is expensive - and there are people in this hellhole who just are panting, hoping for the chance to take over people's possessions and sell them to make that precious, holy PROFIT. (They hope that people will abandon things they can sell.) When this evil state advertises itself as some sort of paradise (and people believe it), well, you get a lot of people who come here and are severely let down. I interviewed a number of homeless individuals who came here expecting a decent job and living being less expensive, and learned to their horror that the one making the promise of a decent job and affordable living was a liar. To a person, they'd lost everything that they valued - sometimes through forced abandonment, and other times through confiscation, usually by a more religious shelter who insisted that "people need to learn that nothing is free and that they must pay something for what they were given!" (Police destruction of camps is another common cause - because they are trying to force homeless people into 'shelters' or to leave the area.) Plus I should add that it's a whole lot easier to dress up for cold, than it is to dress down for heat (to get comfortable, you'd risk arrest and public censure). Don't wish that hell on us - when it's so hot that you cannot cool down (without AC, we might not have survived this last summer). I must add that we've had MANY days here at our place where the heat index was in the severe danger area during this last summer. I've had problems with rich old biddies who (back when we were Christians) insisted that they had the right to be in church without any sort of sweater and wanted the church so warm that I couldn't pay attention and even fell asleep due to heat (a sickening sleep I should add). That's how you're coming across. You're only thinking about yourself, and not about the Other stuck in this hellhole. You need to understand that we didn't choose to move here (in our case, we came here with our parents). Florida is a hellish trap for people who don't have lots of money when they came, or as my brother would say - for people who are trying to start out on their own and find a decent living (which takes a LOT of luck as well as hard work and self-discipline in this state). I will end by saying that I've known quite a few people who moved here for 'the warmth', and after years in this hellhole, came to hate summer because of heat, humidity, and troublesome insects.

I’ve lived in Florida since 1965. Our rainy season is 8 to 9 months long. Our dry season is January/February to May/June. Just my experience here on the space coast. Average temperatures is misleading. I’ve experienced a winters with no freezing temperatures. I’ve also experienced one of the most extreme winters (in my lifetime) about 10 years ago where we had 4 different deep freezes. One freeze was so cold that our palm trees were dying. Back in the mid 80’s, I remember going to work in Orlando (I work outside)on a day it was 9 degrees. The climate/weather is always changing/different.

Florida lifer, all this fake data about "record" heat is so misleading. The hottest US temperatures were in the dust bowl years, mid 1930's. The agenda driven revision of those records is criminal. Those temperatures were taken by calibrated mercury thermometers mounted in Stevens boxes by Federal employees. One example: June 29th, 1931, Monticello, Florida 109F. That one example is higher than anything recorded in Florida this summer.

It was mid 30s in mid/late January in lower Polk Co, so I wouldn't say we "barely" had a winter. It's easy to remember when you're doing primitive camping in that weather with a kid. Last year. It was a low of 23 on Christmas morning, so I put the sprinklers on a tree with a lot of very low, dense limbs overnight. The kid loved having a massive ice sculpture and plenty of icicles to play with. It was in the 20s 3 or 4 nights in a row then and it took over a week for the iced over tree to completely melt. So it's hardly been 30 years. I've camped in January plenty of times where the water bucket by the fire pit was frozen solid (not just a thin sheet of ice, but truly frozen). It does it more often in Florida than people claim, it's just so sporadic and short lived that they don't think about it.

I remember back in the early 80s, going through a couple of Christmas freezes. One happened during our first Christmas, and since the community well froze up, we couldn't wash up before getting with family - I spent most of Christmas morning trying to unfreeze the well. A second such freeze happened on Christmas eve, and there were rolling blackouts as the power companies tried to keep things going. We were Christian back then, and I'd rigged up a couple of lights in the church with my old generator sitting outside. The service started, and then the blackout ended for that area - my generator and lights weren't needed any more. It was really cold both Christmases, freezing and as I remember even some flurries of snow. It used to be a lot less hot and humid back then. I used to come down every summer to Florida, to run my parents' laundromat while my grandma and her husband took a vacation. During the summer it would get hot, but not so bad that it made you sick (like in the last decade or so). Every day where the laundromat existed, we'd have rain start dropping on the pavement around 4:50 in the afternoon, and it was as accurate as some of the clocks around there. The rain would cool things off. That was the normal and expected pattern throughout the 60s and 70s. During the winter, there would be colder periods (my dad would bring us all down to celebrate Christmas with his 'folks') interspersed with rain. When I moved here in the late 70s with my folks, the pattern had changed somewhat - a little warmer and more humid, but less rain. At the end of the (expected) rainy season, we could tell because we'd get short thunderstorms starting late at night, and every day getting earlier in the day. The change to cooler and drier weather happened the day after a thunderstorm would roll through in the morning (usually embedded in a clear front-patterned line of clouds). My memory is that the pattern changed again around 2000 - more and more like what we have today. One of my tribal elders who grew up in Dade City, Florida once said that when she was a girl, it had cooled down enough in fall so that in the mornings that they had to wear shoes to go to school. She and her family were talking about moving into Georgia or Alabama because of the heat and humidity the last time we talked. Sadly, she passed in the 90s - and we still miss her. AC during the Christmas season? It's been the norm here (most years) since 2000 or so.

The following February we had 8 inches of rain, also way about average. I really wish the comment posters would please specify which part of FL they are in. In north FL where I am, versus south FL (Miami, Naples, Ft Lauderdale) there can be a huge difference in temperature in the winter. Getting down below freezing does happen here sometimes in the Tallahassee area. The one thing that all Floridians have in common is that when it does cool down, well just wait 2 or 3 days and it will warm up again. (I have lived in other parts of FL in the past, and originally from the Northwest.)

Been here, central Florida 43 years. It's only been cold a handful of times. A few days here and there, never last long.

I just hope to get some good frost that lasts a good portion of the day. That was the better part of the high school years. Down side to bundling up and then it being a warm afternoon was carrying the coats home

Does this mean South Florida (i.e. Miami) will drop into the 30s at night, like back in January 2010?

Thank you for the heads up. I have a little colony of cats and like to make sure that they are taken care of. Being in Florida I absolutely hate the cold.

@@christophermillett2273What an epic and unfortunately calculated lie. You’ve never grown up in Florida. You’ve vacationed here once a year with your family since you were young to see the ocean and crowd up our roads. Go back to Mississippi snowbird.
