Leave the Suburban the way it is, is my thoughts. Lots of people turn them into overlander vehicles and think it would be a better transformation for it then hacking it up to make it look like something it was never ment to be or look like because if you mess it up there no going back after its been cut up and ruined.

I love the idea of putting a bunch of power into it and making into a sleeper. When I started building the 460 in my crew cab ford dually I had the same idea. I love that it's a completely unassuming platform, everyone who sees the truck is going to think it's an old slow work truck when in reality it's got a fairly healthy 460 under the hood that makes about twice the factory output now. I don't get me wrong it's it's no powerhouse but it pulls trailers like a monster and it's actually quick. Specifically with the suburban you could have a really nice 5 or 600 horsepower Big block in it and it would be perfectly streetable.

LT. you're gonna love having a fast burb! I built two different GMT 900 Yukon XL 2500s with the 8.1. Raylar parts, built transmission, and they were absurd in all the right ways. Even with exhaust, it's absolute sleeper status; NOBODY ever expects a lightning fast burb.

I was never a fan of the Avalanche anyway, but I thought the project was cool and going to show some cool techniques. Still excited to see what ends up happening. If it were mine, I'd go ahead and solid axle swap the front end, probably with a Dana 60, then add a 4-6 inch lift and go for the turbo 454 build. Could end up being a capable daily driver with some off road capabilities. Of course, it's your truck, and your build. I'll be along for the ride either way.

I can't stop driving it but gas is killing me... can you do easy upgrades to get more power and better mpg to bring it into the practical use?

I bought a tuner hypertech only to find out its 91 octane only so i returned it. Now im just in limbo with an awesome suburban that gets 6mpg towing. I have heard if ECM flashes swaps etc tgat make 40-50hp and 40-50 tq that would be huge! Not sure if headers and CAI would make a difference.

The Lingenfelters were a 9.9L that were originally destined for government use in the middle-east. Apparently the government never took delivery and few of these were left to collect dust. You should look into the California Highway Patrol supercharged 3/4ton Suburban special service units. From what I understand, there's a few still in use.

No need to lengthen the wheel base, you only need to shorten it behind the rear wheels. Chop the whole back half between the rear doors and wheel wells then graft most of a short box bed onto the sub body. Shorten the frame behind the axle. Then clad the bottom half in plastic…

If you still wanna do the "burbalanche" idea then I suggest what you said. Move the axle back and maybe even get a wrecked blazer of that generation to use the rear section of the body from. The Fab Rats channel actually had one of these in their shop that was turned into a unibody sort of truck with a pickup rear firewall in place of the rear roof. IT would take a good bit of metal work but adding that extra 8 (or so) inches of wheelbase should help it have the look you want.
