i didnt care that much about the leaderboard rewards, but i did care about not being forced to play vs higher leveled cards. I feel like the entire "but we have to encourage players to buy more cards" forgets that there are lots of people who cant afford to just keep maxing out everything, and dont want to have to play vs strictly superior cards. i'm definitely someone who has put in a LOT of gaming on splinterlands, that is going to play less now, and care less now. but i'm not even close to the problem. the problem is, splinterlands is now far less attractive to new players, and without the league max stops, there is no break from the feeling of "spend more to win". the league breaks were important for someone to work on their game, and be able to figure out how skillful they were vs the field. that part of this, i really dislike, and even more, the fact that everyone on the team just dismissed this idea, keeping just saying "but you'll end up at the right ratings level" showed they really dont understand what it is like for players that dont max out their cards... and that means, the NPE will always be lacking, because the team is not exercising empathy with people who arent spending tens of thousands of dollars on the game. this game will not thrive without being attractive to people who are not able to spend large amounts of money.

The game just needs a new game mode that doesn't require such spending. Weird Beard was working on a draft mode before he was fired. We really, really need something like that.

I resonate with this so much! Same boat here. I was feeling pretty good capping out at bronze limits, but the sense that you need to spend more and more to compete is not at all what I want. Who cares if I earn if I am spending way more? Am playing level 7 summoners in bronze now and it's like why bother? I dunno maybe it just isn't the game for me. The combination of a game needing lots of time and continuous money, even if small, with these massive changes that wipes out your strategy and foundation isn't great for me. Happy to see your post though as I think most of the youtubers are people who are able and willing to spend far more than I am.

​@@Bulldog1205yeah some kind of way to compete, vollect, get rewards, and advamce without having to spend thousands is what I want. Maybe I need a different game though as that doesn't seem like Splinterlands MO? Anyone know one? Lol maybe a farming p2e..

@@brianhoneycutt5938 I agree they should have kept the level caps. But I will say that this should balance out significantly. Right now you are facing people who 1) were camping lower than they should have been or 2) acquired new cards, probably rentals, to take advantage of the recent reward spike. These players will either move up and you won't face them anymore, or they won't renew their rentals as rewards come back down and they will have normal teams again.

@@Bulldog1205 thanks, let's hope you are right and renting high level decks to start out doesn't become the norm. I also wonder how it will work for me as I get up to silver, as I do basically every season. Maybe I just play until I get to top of bronze I? Do you know if we still will have rank resets? Strange new world.

I think Splinterlands-run bots is a great idea! It could introduce a PVE/training element to the game for beginners with varying difficulty levels, soak up extra cards they rent or buy, and provide match liquidity.

Playing against level 7 summoners in bronze so far hasn't been so fun. Hopefully it gets better. I would love to move up but am not willing to spend more and more money to do it

Leaderboard only in champ is great. If they abolish the terrible SPS change they made from CP, then I will be happy. Went from low diamond/high gold to capping myself at silver as I wasnt getting anywhere near the rewards that I use too before the SPS change. Now that we cant cap ourselves lets hope reward shares are based on rating only.

I'm pretty sure that's never going to change. SPS utility is an integral part. The entire system will collapse if you remove that.

That's exactly what they are trying to remove though. Players "camping" in lower leagues is messing the system up.

How exactly? I reach gold rating and get paired with gold players just i dont move past silver rewards as the reward share hit is too great, i get worse chance at rewards per chest, but i get more chests, but thats my choice. I dont see how doing that is such a bad thing.

@@tjdemigod you will still have that choice once the updates are all complete. It will temporarily be gone today, but the next significant update will change it so you no longer earn chests directly, and instead you just get your points and can go buy whatever type of chest you prefer in the shop (including new chests!). So if you want to play in gold league and buy silver chests you can. Or champ chests, or whatever You also won't get needless potion rewards anymore. You'll just be able to buy the exact amount you want using your reward points.

This is a great change on so many levels. Choosing rewards instead of RNG...no League limits... no card limits... I think it's very smart and sensible but I agree with your point about watching Rating Inflation. It seems they really assume people are matched equally for a flat rate and not at all to be cynical but I can see a change coming after all the dust has settled again but that's part of being a fluid game. After three years or so in the space I'm still amazed our games can be changed on the fly to fix mistakes or add player's opinions into the mix. I'm giving it a thumbs up now. Talk to me next week and we'll see haha.

The problem that Splinterlands has will keep getting worse over time. Ranked is a math game. What part of the world is #1 at math? So the human calculators scholar for whales and then use their profits to multi-account camp the lower leagues. Solutions: 1) These changes 2) Get more Westerners into the game - Translate the game to Spanish & that Killer whales show. 3) Change PVP to something other than 1V1 so it's not human calculator versus pay to win westerner. You could start with a new format called "modern:hardcore" while you figure out transitioning over to PVE and multi player versus multi player. It would be 2 versus 2 at the same time, common summoners only, each player picks 1 summoner, 4 cards.

Last few seasons you almost couldn't rank up from modern gold to diamond because only top 30 players had enough to rank up. You get +10 in 2 games then -30 because someone just counter you very will. Let's see how will go this but -20 when I get someone who has 600 points more then me is not good.

I think the hope is you won't matchup against someone that is -600 rating from you. Those leaderboard accounts will spread out a ton and you won't see clusters around specific milestone ratings. I'm personally not sure we have the match liquidity to do this. I've pushed for a while now to have Splinterlands/DAO ran bots at fixed ratings that help control rating inflation and provide match liquidity. I still feel that will be necessary.

Maybe example with 600 difference was too big. But even now you can get difference of around 300 because there is no match liquidity and few times I even got message couldn't find match. For me gold league was getting frustrated because of all the leaderboard campers when you get winning streak you get one camper you get -5 point ok not bad but streak is broken and again grinding. We will see how the new system will work. I hope it will be better.

This has got to be one of the most pro-bot changes to the game, in a long time. It's gonna be *terrible* for the game.

@@marcosxyx For a whole variety of reasons. First and Foremost- Rewards will calculated purely off of rating. This means that there will, again, be a ton of F2P bots who will *SOAK* all the Rewards, since there will be no disadvantage to playing purely F2P cards in ranked battles.

@@roehouse2000 if by F2P cards you mean starter cards then that is incorrect. Starter card penalty still applies. The underleveled penalty is removed, but you still need to have a "real" copy.

B) by "F2P" I simply meant L1 C/R cards Nothing stops the bots from fielding 1,000's of accounts, with nothing but starter cards then renting some L1s for the highest rated accounts. Meaning that, again, the masses of L1 bots will suck up all the Rewards from the pool- leaving very little for the players.

@Bulldog1205 and, TBH, that's not even the worst case. Worst case is: tens of thousands of bots, all with a handful of L1 cards... Playing and playing and playing, using ratings inflation to work their way up through Gold... eating up the Reward Pool along the way.
