I'm here trying to find any secrets to removing the collection jar. The wrench is no help. Every time I brew, I grease the o-ring thoroughly and hand tighten firmly. The of course the jar leaks under pressure so I end up cranking it very tight. The result is that it is near impossible to remove such that the jar breaks. BTW this the second version. v

So I have the original 10 GALLON or 55L as it is. I had to get the bigger oring seal for the top and the collection jar I was still having leaks and could not tighten it all the way. I did break one jar getting it off and had to replace. The last time I used it I decided to use Teflon tape on the threads of the collection jar and that worked great.. No leaks. I have not seen any evidence of cracking so far either. Glad to see they are continuing to improve it.

First thing's first: Yes, Session NEIPA is a great idea. Hazy's aren't going away and neither are session beers (especially in my home country of Australia), so nailing a full flavoured NEIPA at under 5% ABV is very important in my opinion. As for the beer you're presenting in this video: it looks remarkable. Solid tropical orange colour and some impressive head with great lacing on the glass. Looks like a joy to drink. My guess is it tastes as good as it looks, so you should be very proud of that beer. One to the fermenter. I'm pleased KegLand have been active in making changes to the unit; I'm a huge fan of their work. I got into homebrewing just before the collapse of the original Keg King company. The guys at KegLand are fantastic innovators, and I think we have Kee to thank for the original Fermentasaurus. The continued success of the FermenterKing line only proves the competence of the original design. My gripe with the Fermzilla is the guys at KegKing seem to be stuck with the thinking that a homebrew unitank needs to have the same basic features as a commercial fermenter. On the other hand, Keg King seem to understand that we are dealing with 30L fermenters made of plastic that are at or less than waist height. As a result we get the Fermenterking. This vessel's plunger dump valve is an absolutely brilliant idea for a homebrew scale plastic unitank. The tank size and cone angle is also perfect. These days I work in a small craft brewery and I've looked at plenty of international breweries online and I can tell you that the 60 degree cone angle is standard. It offers the best trub drop and collection. I think too much concession has been made to consumers complaining about the height of the original Fermentasaurus and the butterfly valve blocking up. I was originally excited and on board for the Fermzilla when I saw the first concept video. However I have to admit that the Keg King team thought outside the box with the plunger valve and now I've seen it in action, it seems so logical, and such an improvement over the butterfly valve for a small, plastic homebrew unitank. This coupled with retaining the steep 60 degree cone angle makes it a very compelling option. I just threw out my original Fermentasaurus (gen 1!) bubble due to what seemed to be irreversible infection, and I think I'll be looking at a Fermenterking as a replacement, not a Fermzilla. Pending your review of the unit of course. Cheers, Dr. Hans!

Thanks for the update 👍🏻 such a shame though for all that have the original one with these issues! Though i haven’t experienced any stretching/cracking yet myself? In a nutshell i have an inferior product to the new release! and adding in the extras too, for which i paid extra for ☹️. But definitely the plastic connectors are definitely less hassle than the stainless ones i find

Good video Dr. I've personally enjoyed using my fermzilla but agree it is a fiddly piece of kit. I've given up attempting to take the bf valve off. Very nice looking NEIPA. How did you get the colour? Doesn't quite meet the classic definition of 'session' but does relative to the style.

Great review! That's a nice looking NEIPA too. Even with the updates I think I'll stick with the All-Rounder. I harvest my yeast before I add it to the fermenter so the collection jar provides no benefit. I also think the plastic-on-plastic fittings lead to a lot of the "fiddliness" that people are complaining about. If the bottom spout was a durable Tri-Clamp fitting, a lot of these issues would go away.

Done 5 brews now and found it pretty fiddly with the later version. I always get yeast down in the first seal and have to disassemble the lot to get it out and cleaned, accompanied by trouble with small leaks until fixed before next brew day. It's bit of a task and is lowering the enjoyment experience. But will box on as I know it's basically a good bit of gear.

There's an easy way to clean that seal, just put a jet spray attachment on your garden hose, leave the butterfly valve open and remove the collection jar. Then with the hose just run that high pressure jet around the edge of the seal a few times and it will flush all the crud out, then just sanitise as per usual. I've done over 20 brews in my Fermzilla, not taken the BF assembly apart once, no need unless you get an infection in there some other way..
@PortlyGentleman
@PortlyGentleman 4 жыл бұрын
Nice video 👌 I haven't had any of the assembly. I have had the plastic bottle caps fail. The biggest issue for me is the cracking around the mouth of the fermzilla . My unit is experiencing I'm basically afraid to use it!
