It's not there yet. They are measuring the winds via satellite and radar tracking it's rotational speed and size at the diameter. When it gets there it will throw the wind meter off the roof at the speeds it's currently at.

I’m thanking God today that my family was blessed to make it through Hurricane Katrina by taking shelter in the super dome and getting out of there with our lives 16 yrs ago and able to be relocated to the north Texas area. I’m looking at this hurricane and having play by play flashbacks of what my family endured and praying that everyone gets out of New Orleans because it wasn’t a nice sight to see my beautiful city in the condition it was in after Katrina. Floridan here..evacuating is is not always that easy. There can be many reasons. Lack of funds, needing to stay for a job, lack of transportation, etc. Also, they can have a good idea where it is going or how bad it is going to be, but they are very seldom right on. A slight shift in track and intensity can greatly effect what the storm is like in any particular place. We were not expecting Charley to really be much in Orlando until the day before, but if definitely ended up being quite the event.

Been through a ton of hurricanes I was directly on the right side of the eye wall in this one 120 mph sustained winds 130 gusts at the most!

I remember this hurricane like it was yesterday. Even all this time later, it was one of the scariest things I had ever experienced. I remember the moment the eye wall hit. Hearing the screams of terror from my family, and the sound of twisting metal, splintering wood and missiles hitting my home at over 150 miles per hour shot a hole right through my heart. That hurricane took my soul with it when it left my area. It was as if an EF3 tornado was on top of my house for hours. I remember curling up in a closet, hoping and praying that it would be over soon, too scared to even take my head out from my hands. Still brings tears to talk about it. The fury of a hurricane cannot be understood by anyone who hasn't had a front row seat.
