Dear, wonderful tutorial. Can you help? When the air filter is removed, there is a vertical plastic pillar inside. Is it used for something because it is broken? I can't send a picture in the comment to see what it is about.

Lovely video. Just wondering - that small small tube inside the valve cover/intake, would that not be experiencing vacuum as per the original Renault design? So when you are on open throttle the oil is being sucked through it? As such should there be a return pipe going from the catch can back into the intake? So that the catch can is also being held at a vacuum ensure that that valve can breath as designed? I don't exactly know where the vent in the valve cover/intake is coming from - perhaps it doesn't need vacuum, but in the design from Renault it does experience vacuum. If it hasn't caused you any issues in the passed 4 years then I would say it does not need vacuum, and that this solution is perfect but I'm just curious as I a plan to do this fix this weekend. Thanks!

Hello.I understand your concern and You right to ask. I still have car. It still pass the car inspection without problem. I didn't meet any performance issue since then. The short tube/pipe into the valve cover is meant to create a venturi effect to "ingest" the residual oil fumes from the valves cover. For sure this venturi effect might not be as efficient as before as I put an extra length of hose. But regarding émissions it is not problem at all. Thank you for your comments

@@olipirard Thank you very much for replying! Great to know it is still working well. I'll make sure the rest of the PCV system works and if it does I will do what you did with the open loop catch can, Thanks again.

@RobinBlakey Hello Robin, For the record the little Twingo passed the French equivalent of the English MOT inspection this month. (I assume you are from England) In the catch can, there are traces of oil and there was an oil drop at the hose end. I'm good for two more years 😊

I have the same problem on my Clio II 2003 D4F-712. I'm going to change the gaskets next week since i got burn smell in my car mostly when standing still waiting for red lights. To the problem ---> why is the oil dripping out from that little pipe, is it from overpressure ?

Hello Pär, Thank you for your kind comment. For what I can say, this little tube @3:23 is much more a "vent" or a "vacuum pipe" so that the engine can "swallow" the oil mist produced while it runs. This for emission regulation, I guess. I did the connexion with the white hose to get rid of oil dripping for good. Nonetheless, it is not mandatory. In the following link : kzbin.info/www/bejne/lWO5q2aNbbWCl6M , you'll find the whole process to change all upper engine seals. At 12:29 in this video, you'll see a weird "beveled" ring which seals the valve cover and the intake manifold. This ring was cooked and that is what you need to replace. I hope it will help you. And by the way, Happy new Year :)

Hi I did the same as you did but I lost 2 screws of the intake manifold, did a test drive then I saw oil all over near the oil level stick, did the oil come from the unscrewed 2 holes? or are the holes goes throw the engine cover ? I ordered the screws :)

Hello Mohamed, I doubt that two missing fasteners will cause an oil leak around the dip stick. Nonetheless, I have two questions. Does the oil spills at the bottom or at the top of the dip stick. Second, did the dip stick poped out of its place or was it still well inserted? Kind regards.

Do I understand well - missing bolts from intake manifold were causing an oil leak? I have the same problem and i couldnt do one screw and now there is a lot of oil in front of the engine
@montgomeryha4921

@Adam Pinocy yes the screws holes goes directly to the engine, of one the the screws missing the high pressure will force the oil to goes the that hole and cause a miss. Until now i did not have oil leak. All the screws also in the manifold to the engine were too bad so i replaced them all. The oil leak in the manifold i did the same as in this video but instead of make hole to the air filter bottom cover i just get a long hose the goese to the air filter and the air hose to a can near battery and it worked

DONT do that. just unscrew your valve cover and clean it every 30000km.
