Hughes sees the entire picture -- hockey players who will play for the team, and take a contract with the team's needs in mind. It's why Habs fans are patient, waiting for the next Cup.

I wonder why everyone is asking KH to sign a doubtful 20 goal scorer for the second line for one year while waiting for Demidov. Joel Armia scored 17 in 66 games last year and have one year left on contract. Put him there with Dach and Newhook, he will score 20 while help defensively and next year he is gone. I don't see Sprong or Nylander as an upside to Armia for 1 year.

@@moviereelnews i think GM'S know who and what he is as a player. Wouldn't get much even if he had 30goals at tdl. I'd rather much keep him for 3 years at 1.75m for my bottom 6 for example. He brings great value at anything under 2m per year. If the stories are true about him getting a mental coach and what we saw on ice was the result of that, the best is ahead of him. Armia looked motivated every game, at some point in the season he took no games off and it showed.

I’ll be so happy getting McGroarty and wouldn’t be worried about the rumours. If we get him, I simply trust Hughes. If his personality is an issue Hughes won’t pull the trigger. If it isn’t, we’ll be trading for an elite prospect at most likely their lowest trade price.

I see them competing for a playoff spot 25/26 season and expect them to be in the playoffs regularly starting in 26/27. Unless a lot of these prospects turn out to be busts.

Rutger is one player I certainly do not want. Considering he demands top 6 minutes and power play time despite never having played a single game in the show. I feel like that isn’t the type of player we need for the culture we’re trying to create.

I can name so many players even ones in the hall of fame who asked for trades who ended up being great leaders and players on their own team. This player will be a good player and he's not as expensive now as he will be. The issue right now too with winnipeg is they won't even let him on the roster at all. He could of easy taken a 4th line roll for playoffs but they didn't give it to him which was dumb.. those are the players you want! Winnipeg is the issue.

Honeslty best to go with the team we have right now, unless you can move out anderson, gally, dvorak. Next year is the year to go free agent hunting. Let the young guys develop and see what we already have

Reinforcements will be coming prior to the 2025/26 season given most UFAs will be traded or not be resigned. This is when we see how the rebuild has progressed. JESSE, Let's not put that type of pressure on Demidov to be in the Calder running as he may need time to transition. As a reminder, he hasn't played many games in the KHL. Suggest patience for all our future prospects.

I really dont see the Habs unfortunately making the playoffs. However. If we manage to break Demidov's contract with the KHL and get a guy like Necas or McGroaty. Then i think we are for sure a close to playoff team. I think the Habs still have around a 5% chance at making the playoffs next year though. We know Caufield still can hit 40 goals. Slafkovsky can go up to ppg. Dach could be a 50-60 point guy. Suzuki could be a 35 45 guy. Along with Hutson coming in. I think with all that. We should be a .500 team. And we know Monty can get hot. Maybe he has an Adin Hill type season and pushes us to that wild card?

@ghoward6705 I'm talking about Demidov who plays in Russia. Not the KHL. The reason I say this is because A. We JUST seen it happen with Michkov. B. We know Demidov wants to play in Montreal. C. They've moved the decision of moving khl-nhl contracts to the team rather then the league

I am not worried about what people say about the kid, I am worried about the price the Jets are asking. If he doesn't want to play for the Jets, why would he want to play for the Habs? In my opinion, that trade would already have been done if it was that simple. Mesar probably required a trade when he was told he wouldn't start in the AHL with Laval. There was room for him before we signed all those plasters for 1 year a couple days ago. Mesar is probably not enough value, so maybe a guy like Struble or Harris would do it. If that tips it into the Jets favor, then the Jets can add a 3rd or 4th pick. Mesar Struble (or Harris) FOR McGroarty 3rd or 4th round pick

Alex Nylander is a very interesting player. I dont think his value is much higher then a 4th round pick. However. I see potential of a William Karlsson 2.0 who goes from an AHL talent to a great top-middle 6 forward.

All this depends on Dach staying healthy. If Dach has a difficult season I’m afraid the Athletic predictions will be spot on.

Montreal need to focus on making roster room and getting rid of bad contracts , not only Anderson and Gallagher are taking to much cap room for zero production but they’re also taking a spot away for a player that needs nhl minutes to develop, you can replace Gallagher and Anderson by anyone in the system and get a higher production and all around game for a tenth of the cost 👆This is what Kent Hughes is working on , as of right now, all the habs have cap room for are patches , by 2025-26 , Ken Hughes wants tons of cap room

Tough ride homies, if Dach doesn’t pan out, the playoffs are a pipe dream next year. Canfield also has to rebound, he can’t be the shooter hog with a 8.plus percentage. The offense needs to run more toward Slav’s and Dach’s development as potentially two big body playoff players. Hutson and Canfield might only be offensive depth playoff pieces down the road, due to their diminutive size.

I actually think it’s likely the Habs push for a wildcard this coming season, KH definitely wants that and he will pull the trigger on deadline deals if we’re in a good spot I think (deals for long term success not just vets on rental deals)

you could get nylander for cheap....then when our prospects from tier2/3 are ready to make the move to the nhl, package him with a prospect and a trade and acquire a top 3or4 spot 2nd pairing on our D line.

Reports out of Winnipeg are that Jets management were underwhelmed by the Canadiens offer. But also potential trade partners have been scared off by demands coming from the McGroarty camp for guaranteed roster spot, PP time etc. Could it be that this trade is hung up trying to agree to terms with whichever team has permission to negotiate with him? Lastly who is McGroarty's best bud? Gauthier, who pulled the same stunt in Philly. Monkey see monkey do?

The best wingers to help out Dach and Newhook on their lines that are available that we could both sign are Daniel Sprong and Van Riemsdyk. Alex Nylander could be a good bet too, he was finding himself in a team where he was getting minutes, which he would in the Habs. It doesn't hurt to have transient veterans who can score 20 goals this season, otherwise it'll be just the first line that can score, even if Dach gets back right where he left off after that ridiculous hit by Jared Tinordi, an old mtl draft pick who should be in the AHL in normal circumstances 😠, not sure Gallagher or Armia is equipping a second line enough. HP can and likely will rebound after that awful year where he got injured 3 times, came back too soon from an injury and just scored 1 goal in like 40 games. Zegras can play the wing too and Anaheim are still not doing anything in his case. I'd love for Sprong and either Van Riemsdyk or Nylander to both sign 1 year contracts for next season with the habs, we need wingers desperately so, 2 out of 3 of these have proven they can score 20 goals, Sprong isn't good defensively....Van Riemsdyk is though, so, I wouldn't let those obscure still free agents too long if I was Kent Hughes, for Dach to produce, he needs wingers, same for Newhook. 4th line with Armia and Pezzeta would be fine. If Monty continues to improve like he's done year after year between the pipes and the majority of the team stays healthy, Habs might miss the playoffs but 1-10 points this season if Dach and Newhook are given wingers to play with and at least 2 veteran signings would be great, Joshua Roy and HP can complement those 2nd and third lines with Sprong, Van Riemsdyk and the fourth line is already built with Pezzeta-Evans-Armia. Yes, I say we can trade or simply waive Dvorak, he was a machine in the OHL, playing with Marner and Tkachuk in the London Knights, but he never fully unlocked in the NHL, maybe send him to Toronto so he can play with Marner, as it looks like he will be with Toronto this year and maybe traded at the deadline depending on many factors, but reuniting Dvorak with Marner (see what they did together in the OHL...oof, Dvorak was a 55 goals 120 pts kind of guy, even better than Marner) and see what Toronto could offer back, I don't mind if it's not much, I just want space in the lineup as I think, although he was injured a lot, but that applies to almost everybody except Suzuki in these last 3 years, didn't turn out to be player he was supposed to become and it's a trade like that or simple waivers for Christian the Robot.

The Habs may or may not be in the Playoff this year, but next and the next into the near future will win the cup at a two, threepeat or more a dominant dynasty in the NHL because most great powerhouse teams now will be old by then and face rebuilding. Few new powerhouse teams will pop up. Let's look at the Boston, Chicago, LA , Philly of 2010-14. Colorado still a force post Sakic and Roy era, but nowhere near that. Where are they now? Boston still there, but not the same as the 2010-14 era with Tim Thomas and Chara.

Sounds like McGroarty is getting bad advice from his agent. The business part of this business sucks. But if he is really the player you think he is -- and it seems Hughes must agree -- this only lowers his price. So maybe he becomes a Hab.

I don’t believe he has said those things and if he did he’s an idiot unless just trying to push the issue. The thing about players with too much ego if they are not the Best Player on that team they know it so if they start playing those cards just send to the minors or bench and trade As they say sometimes you have to admit you made a bad call and move on. Saying this he still has to much talent and like Laine worth the gamble. We cannot build a team with just drafting or we will end up waiting 2 to 3 years until they are NHL ready. Next year time to spend money on high end UFAs. Still would have taken Surin over Hage
