Dubov is the best. And yet, after Bc5(3:40), Nxe6! forced the victory of White, although there was a thorny path there. Dubov preferred dominance, which is probably safer.

Interesting (getting two pawns for a piece as white, or am I missing something? White should have enough compensation though). I guess we are still in opening theory at this point, the computer probably preferring Nxe6, right?

@@henni1964 A lot of time has passed. The computer shows Rd1. Main option Nxe6 Bxe3.Nc7+! Kf8.fxe3 Kg8... The king runs, and White reaps the harvest. The figure is not lost.

Time flies, that's correct. Oh I see, Nc7+ is the move I missed. Thank you for the clarification. 🙂 Very instructive: always look for knights, if they may become an 'octopus knight' in some variations. Perhaps Dubov didn't like the somewhat weak Pe3.

Black replies Qxa8 and whites's rook on h1 and knight on c4 are hanging. Even without this double attack, the white squared bishop is too valuable to give away as in its absence, white's kingside structure becomes too fragile.

Dubovs kingside will weaken terribly if the Bishop is lost.

Chess noob here. Why was black compelled to gift the pawn to white at 5:09. Black queen and eventually black knight could have blocked the queening white pawn on 7th rank. No?
